The new Nintendo console (lol Wii U) is going to get year old scraps that's barely an improvement over the CURRENT gen consoles and you guys are seriously defending that?

You don't know that. You have no idea what the specs are for this system. Just because they only showed ports at this point doesn't mean that it can't do more. The tech demo they showed was pretty impressive. I think you need to wait until you know more before making assumptions.

To be fair, what's actually useful to the viewer about seeing the console? All it really is is an anonymous box near your telly.

It lets us actually know there is a new console. If I hadn't been online here, I would have had no idea if there actually was a new console or not. Sure, Peter Moore and some other said 'new console' a couple times, but Nintendo themselves were only saying New Controller. It was just a really poor and convoluted way to present a new console.

The problem with the focus on the controller, however, is that there's a lot of FUD floating about that will hopefully clear in the future.

My only other concerns are with how powerful the device is, and with the "Wii U" name - I think that tethering the device to the Wii brand may potentially hold it back.

Hopefully Nintendo can get better third-party support for the Wii U than they have for the 3DS.

Good point, they should have given it a new name. The name makes it sound like only a half sequel to the Wii rather than a generational change.

Assassin's Creed, Ghost Recon Online and Rabbids games are all in development for Wii U, Ubisoft has announced.

In addition, the French publisher will develop two completely new IPs for Nintendo's new console.

One will be a "revolutionary" first-person shooter for a hardcore audience. This will be exclusive to Wii U.

The other will be a multi-sports game "for the whole family".

It's Nintendo's fault for presenting it that way, and it is confusing. They didn't even bother to show the actual console. And they're making the same mistake with the name they did with 3DS, they're not differentiating it from the previous platform. People think that 3DS is just a new iteration of the DS, like DSi, and the same thing might happen with Wii U (shudder).

Nintendo conference was kinda meh. I liked the games they showed, but it was random as hell. I don't know why they talked about the console before the 3DS stuff, and waited till after the 3DS games to actually show the controller.

Honestly think nintendo going for the middle ground isn't a great idea. The system is not as casual friendly as the wii, and the controller doesn't lend itself well to core games of which will play better with a 360 or ps3 controller

and then there's the likelihood of a new sony and ms console not long after the wii u launch which will be far more capable graphically than the wii u

The beauty of it is it can be as casual. You will be able to play Wii U games with the Wii controller. So for people just wanting the Wii experience, they can still just get those games.

I'm actually excited about this one. It will stink it's end of year 2012.

I am sold but so many questions left, wtf was that :

• Do I need a new console to play the Wii U ? Is the Wii U the name of a new console or just a controller ? New COonsole
• Is the whole thing a cloud structure with content being streamed from the Wii itself ? Or are the graphics generated by on place (new) hardware ? Generated by Console
• How about the online possibilities/price/infrastructure ? EA said it was free, store, etc. PSN-esque perhaps
• How much does it cost ? 300-400 would be a good bet
• Is there a possibility to get better graphics that currently with the HD twins ?If it does have a HD4870... its beyond what current consoles can do
• Will I get good software from Nintendo ? I hope so

The controller is the only thing I liked.

I'm a SONY fan, but the DS3 design is shit and it always has been. I don't game on SONY for the controller...I do it for the games.

The WiiU controller shits on the DS3.

That conference though...kinda sucked. And I guess we've confirmed that the console portion of the WiiU isn't much more powerful than the 360. Meh.

I hope someone goes back in to various hardware and posts some quotes because a lot of people should be eating crow. The fact nintendo is even at that level and it's fact now is far more than various expectations that have been stated here for the past few years on the next Wii.

My post wasn't about the conference as much as the hints. The crowd going two gcs is now having to change a lot of busted arguments. Kudos to some of those nailing controller rumor the mockups are uncanny to the actual product.

Not saying it's you but don't go thinking I liked the conference it was a tease and most expecting something else deserve the blueballs they get until next june.
