E3 2011 Nintendo Press Conference Thread: What's in your coffee? [Over]

Isn't it very possible that Nintendo's hardware IS more advanced than PS3/360, they just haven't developed any games to show it off yet? After all, the games shown were "ports"...

The controller looks good except for the fucking CIRCLE PADS. What kind of a boneheaded move is that? Why would you want circle pads in a home console controller vs. analog sticks?!

So Nintendo showed a game lineup of games that will already be released six months to a year before, on consoles people already own, and this is somehow supposed to make me want to buy their new system?

That's likely what next years E3 will be about.

I've seen it thrown around in this thread, why do people think EA is developing the online infrastructure for the console? It didn't really seem like that was implied to me.

Someone explain to me how the PS4/Xbox 720 don't bury this thing when they're announced.

Nintendo better pray Sony and Microsoft are too caught up in their own peculiar bullshit (hacks, Move, Kinect) to take the next logical step a year from now.

Hardware is surely interesting enough, we will have to wait what the real specs are and how the performance will turn out. But I'm completely underwhelmed what the SW side of things concerns. Only real killer app was battlefield, which I will play on my PC in this year already.

So FUD spreads all around what the chances of WiiU are.

People complaining about the lack of game announcements are missing the boat completely. The delivery was just pitch-perfect. Iwata and Reggie have never been better. John Riccietello committing Electronic Arts to the future success of the platform is a major coupe. And note, it wasn't just a press conference, the actually went on stage and said it. The whole thing gave just enough info to be titillating and left everyone watching it wanting more. Many of the games announced will be out earlier on other platforms, but that is not the point. The point is that announcing them showed the face of the new Nintendo - a company that seeks to appeal to everyone. It was an awesome show and they really couldn't have done any better.

Bravo, Nintendo! Another easy E3 win!

I saw it. I cringed as Iwata built up to the fact that "You" was going to be in the name somehow.

I am glad my first fear wasn't entirely true.
We had Wii.

Thank goodness... You don't have Yuu.

So they really have no idea what they are actually doing with the new console, how it'll be exatly, what'll be the name, its looks, specs or launch date... Great.

How about now?

Just busting your balls

oh god.... :lol

Im interested, but im a bit on the fence as the total lack of details about the console itself. And im worried about how that feels in your hands.

WiiU looks pretty unimpressive, it's the same stuff I have on 360/ PS3, I can imagine most developers not making much use of the console's unique abilities and just porting games with 'Transfarring' (lol).

On the other hand 3DS Holiday season looks packed; I don't want to get overexcited since there are several big Nintendo franchises due in 'Holiday 2011'. I guess Nintendo will spread them out to late spring 2012.

But the biggest disappointment this E3 is the lack of Japanese developers; Japan, where are your games!?
I expected to see Level5 in some form; Ninokuni on PS3/ DS localisation. What is going on with the Layton games, are we getting Layton 4? 3DS had so many (Japanese) developers on board at E3 2010; Persona, SMT from Atlas, Kingdom Hearts, Chocobo Racing, a Final Fantasy game, and another Dragon Quest game from Square Enix, Contra from Konami.

Final scores

MS: D
Sony: C
Nintendo: A

Thank you for saving E3 yet again, Nintendo. Wii U looks awesome, 3DS is getting the games this year, and the Zelda anniversary stuff is great.

U MAD?

Is this true, it doesn't have joysticks but the little slider pads like the 3ds?

Good God. And face buttons under the right stick. I remember the black and white buttons on the old Xbox S controllers.

Who the fuck wants to play a shooter on this thing?

The fact that it's getting all these games already confirms that it's easy to develop for.
What is this foolishness in this thread?

No kidding, there's a serious fail epidemic going on in this thread right now.

hilarious conference

Nintendo truly saved gaming

A+++

Did we watch the same conference? I wouldn't give it a B. But I did like Luigi's Mansion 2.

They showed an oversized controller and mentioned some prototypes. Wii U still vapor ware until more info on its specs/pricing (not to mention how much those controllers will cost) are known.

1) The controller.
2) No lag streaming.

Those are things that are going to appeal to the average consumer. Take off the GAF glasses for a minute.

Not sure how I feel about the Wii U, but all the 3DS games looked awesome. Happy I'm focusing on PC gaming (with some 3DS gaming on the side), so many good things coming out for the PC.

For anyone out there still confused for some reason...Reggie just stated on G4 that it is in fact a brand new console.

Edit : "New GPU, new CPU, and everything else"

"It is 1080P"

I just really hope developers use the new controller for the "new" kinds of game-play it allows. It was smart of Nintendo to build their "gimmick" right into a traditional controller, it makes it something of a no brainer to do things like make plays on the screen, hide individual players info from other players, or do that panoramic view.

As far as graphics go, I don't go to my console to be blown away. I have a great PC I built 2 years ago that I doubt the next PS or XBOX will be able to match, and I'll probably update it by then anyway. But whatever, I buy Nintendo consoles for Nintendo games, so I'm going to get it sooner or later.

This controller is an FPS game machine. Sony figured out a clever way to do 2-player splitscreen, but Nintendo made a way to do 4. The big factor that's missing from the equation is COST.

I don't get why most people were excited. This is exactly like Wii no one had a clue this early in. Next year I will worry if they can't do better than this or at least show me nintendo franchises that will be pimping for the first two years.

I'll ask one more time just in case the thread is moving too fast. Mark Rein was at the conference, and he said on Twitter there would be an announcement some time in the last few hours. Was there an announcement? Batman on WiiU kinda implies UE3 is ported I guess, but I didn't see anything about an official Epic announcement.

People expected all these new Nintendo games. But Nintendo explicitly tried to not mention new in-house titles, because that's what hurt the Wii for the hardcore. Nintendo is famous for sucking all the air out of the room with its Mario, Zelda and first-party games. This keynote was about demoing the possibilities for the 3rd party, not about re-igniting nostalgia in Nintendo's fanbase.

Wii U isn't a games platform yet. It's just a piece of hardware they've made.

Mistake to show it so early, presumably the leaks forced their hands.

Well no, it was to show the new controller, according to Eurogamer Ubisoft have 2 exclusive games in development so not everything was shown, especially as Nintendo didn't announce anything except NSMB Mii.

Don't forget about cost. Will PS4 be 600$?

Of course it's a new fucking console. How daft do you have to be to assume otherwise?

Hey look this console can output HD graphics far better than the Wii. Must be the same console.

Two questions...

That "Chase Game"...the G4 video zoomed out, so I couldn't tell what "familiar world" it was. I'm guessing Mario. Correct?

Who was the guy with the sword in the Kid Icarus trailer at the beginning? I mean, he might just be a new character, but the trailer made it seem like I was supposed to know him already ("remember me?") or something.
