Nope. It's pretty hard to imagine what incentive platform holders can give to bring third parties onboard with this. MS talks about "smart delivery" and I'm sure Sony will have something similar, but what if Activision are just like "Nah, don't think we'll do that". Then what? Are MS & Sony going to fork the bill to offer everyone an upgrade? Sounds crazy expensive. Are they going to say that Acti can't have a next gen version if they refuse smart delivery? Not very likely, imagine refusing a juggernaut game like CoD on your system. They did something like that when the PS4/Xbone launched? Buy game, get it cross generation?
We also have the upgrade Vs full next gen version problem. I don't know if CDPR ever cleared this up, but they were talking about a current gen upgrade for next gen systems and a true next gen version later down the line. So which does smart delivery actually cover? The current gen upgrade or the full next gen version? How long is "later" that it no longer justifies being counted as smart delivery? Like if TLOU2 comes out with a full PS5 version 6 months after the consoles launch, should it be smart delivery still? What about if it's a year later? What if it comes out with the DLC bundled but the person who got the PS4 version never got the DLC? Would MGS2 Subsistence that has extra content be considered a free upgrade over base MGS2? In that case aren't devs just going to add a new outfit in a next gen version and say it's a new version which means it doesn't apply to smart delivery?
It seems like smart delivery is a good thing but I'd expect there's going to be plenty of caveats and exceptions that have people confused. I get the impression it's more of a good will gesture than anything else.
