EA has no titles in development for Wii U

Searched and couldn't see this posted. Mock if old.

Less than two years after vowing to deliver on an "unprecedented partnership" with Nintendo, gaming giant EA is quiet on the Wii U front.

"We have no games in development for the Wii U currently," company spokesperson Jeff Brown told Kotaku yesterday. He did not rule out the chances of EA developing for the Wii U again. EA publishes many of gaming's biggest franchises, including Madden, The Sims, and Battlefield.

In June 2011, at the biggest gaming event of the year—E3—Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata closed his presentation of his company's biggest games and then-forthcoming Wii U console by welcoming then-CEO of EA John Riccitiello to the stage. "What Nintendo's new console delivers speaks directly to the players of EA Sports and EA Games. Nintendo's new console will produce brilliant high-definition graphics and new gameplay opportunities. We look forward to seeing great EA content on this new platform." Riccitiello was also enthused about Nintendo's embrace of online gaming.

This confirms the fears of some regarding EA's Wii U output. This parallels the Dreamcast in that EA also provided little support.

Oh wow.

EA does everything for everything. Them and Ubi are the biggest flooders of the market today. For them to not have ANYTHING in development for a platform is saying a lot and none of it good.

Not even the Sims?

I know it's been said a million times but holy fuck did EA and Nintendo have a falling-out or what. I don't think it has anything to do with Origin (that's a dumb rumour) but I would surely like to know what happened. Even if it is purely just brutally disappointing sales.

I think they'll put out something eventually. I'm actually a little surprised this means no Need for Speed this year actually, that's the one I thought they'd get.

Heh not even the usual kids crap. And people say its just some random business decision. ha looks like quite a bit of animosity to me. oh well will be interesting to see how it all plays out.

It's pretty obvious how this will play out. There's no major install base on Wii U at the moment. Hence why EA won't commit currently. They always play it by numbers. But as soon as there's a 1st party 3D Mario game, a Zelda game, a Mario Kart game, a Smash game etc, the install base grows, and 3rd party responds by following suit and supplying those consumers with additional games. Surely we know this by now?

I thought they were contractually obligated to at least bring the Madden franchise to it because of the NFL?

This didn't exactly occur with the Wii, though. Beyond the shovelware, at least.

This has to be about announced games, not games in development*. It has to.

I can't believe Fifa will not be released there.

*I know the OP says games in development

Not at all surprising at this point (aside from FIFA, anyway). I would guess that they had at least some token support lined up for this year, but that it was cancelled based on sales of EA's launch titles and Wii U in general.
