Second class citizens? Please. BLOPS Wii U was 5 days late on the Wii U. Had equal if not better graphical quality
I don't see the huge issue. If we're looking at another 7 year cycle, that would be 2020 for the "big boys". A 5 year cycle would give Nintendo a three year head start next time. With the possibility of modestly leapfrogging the twins. This is my concern as well.
It's better for Nintendo to strike the iron while it's hot. Create a console while people are still being blown away by PS4/720 now rather than wait when PS4 graphics will be considered a thing of the past.
More of a crutchSo Wii U is a "third pillar" confirmed?
Why does anyone think this is because of Wii U's power? It's perfictly powerful enough to handle Frostbite, the reason EA has no games? In development for Wii U is because of Nintendo and EA's current relationship.
If Sony could turn around the PS3, and Nintendo could turn around the 3DS than it's possible to turn around the Wii U.
When COD was released every Wii U basher said it was the worst version - a screenshot of a Wii U video with a jaggy shadow in it, the same guy spamming 50 posts about how the frame rate was terrible, etc.
But now, conveniently, it was the best version all along! Amazing!
It somehow went from being the worst to best, without any actual improvement, just because that fits your argument.
I guess this makes it official, but we all pretty much knew this.
What does "Unprecedented Partnership" mean?
I hear it mentioned a lot but no one has explained it.
To be honest, I've spent $600 on my system and games so far, and played for almost 300 hours. Even if it exploded right now, I've seen much worse bang for buck than that.well that's part of the risk of being an early adopter. Products fail all the time, you think the 660,000 that bought the 32x when it was discontinued got anything for it?? how about the 770,000 that bought the virtual boy? How about the 250,000 that bought the Atari Jaguar??
I personally don't think Nintendo will discontinue the Wii U (i think they are going to ride it out and see if their 1st party software will jumpstart sales), but to answer your question, no I don't think you guys deserve anything. Now will Nintendo give you guys something to help keep you around as customers?? I'm sure they would, maybe some free games, maybe a discount on the new console if you trade in your wii u, i'm sure they'd think of some olive branch for you guys.
With new tech like HMC around the corner, Nintendo could wait until 2015 and pull a true Dreamcast by leapfrogging. Then release their next console same time or year after the Durango/PS4 successors. We will see how many gens until cloud completely makes consoles processing unnecessary. This is my concern as well.

...on the strength of three Espressos stapled together and overclocked to 2ghz.
Unprecedented partnership = no games in development?
Liars. Somebody should sue them or something.
In the meantime we should go used games only for EA games. Unprecedented customer support.![]()
You're trying too hard at this point. Why should Nintendo do that when according to many folks who defend the Wii U's tech that more powerful graphics arent needed? That Nintendo makes games that are all art style not graphically powerful. Also, the Wii U having a full year to itself from the PS4/Nextbox was suppose to be a big deal. Instead it will be a year of wasted opportunity.
My thinking as well. Just start over, get a system with the basics included (which the Wii U does not) and work from there.
Would Iwata do this though? With new tech like HMC around the corner, Nintendo could wait until 2015 and pull a true Dreamcast by leapfrogging. Guys, guys... get your Nintendo bashing back on the same page. this circle jerk is starting to get out of sync. Can't have that.
5 days late (much more in the EU), no preorder bonuses, no DLC, delayed/missing patches, no double XP weekends the first couple times, the list goes on.
Plus Wii remote aiming was broken for weeks after launch.
2nd class citizens. It's a vicious cycle I guess. Only Ubi seems to have any serious interest in breaking the cycle. EA takes their ball and goes home. Blame belongs with various parties including Nintendo, but not just Nintendo.
You're trying too hard at this point.
He likely would not, but he may not be around to make that decision.Would Iwata do this though?
The guy just made a console that struggles against 6 year old consoles. I have little belief Iwata can even create a console 2x better than PS4 in 2015 and even then, we're probably looking at huge sacrifices on the CPU.
I really wish there was a gaming journalist who could ask some serious questions about this relationship right now.
In the mean time we're stuck with stupidity.![]()

The hope was that FIFA 14 was not announced because they were waiting for next gen consoles (Xbox) to be unveiled, and there you would hear about next gen FIFA, which would in theory include the Wii U
The problem that some were ignoring is that EA does not refer to the Wii U as next gen, this is back when "Gen 4" was referring to 720/PS4, if there was a FIFA for Wii U it would have been announced when the PS3 and 360 versions were announced.
Big question now is, who else other than EA is going to be doing this
Seriously, how can it get any worse.
I really don't understand what kind of insights you hope to glean from any journalistic interview: The numbers we have speak for themselves, EA is in this for the money. They obviously don't see any future sales potential in the platform for their games, there's no need for pointless interviews that won't give us any more hard facts than we already have.
Ubisoft doing the same? Activision doing the same after CoD Ghosts? Sales staying stagnant or going lower?
Does EA have any popular franchises specifically for younger gamers?
Source? I could swear Just Dance 4 had DLC pretty close to day one.The reason Black Ops 2 for Wii U lacked the Nuketown map was due to the fact that Nintendo didn't support DLC at launch - that was patched in later (December).
Source? I could swear Just Dance 4 had DLC pretty close to day one.
But even so, five months later there's still no Nuketown.
The whole EA sports catalog/Sims? If your talking about stuff like Spongebob then no outside Fancy Pants Adventures/Popcap Games.
Nintendo fans aren't a hive mind. I never personally said graphics don't matter (along with many others). I have a gaming PC as well as a Wii U.Its a fair response. The Wii was all about the Wiimote and casual crowd. Graphics werent an issue. The assumption was that the Wii U was good enough power wise and the gamepad would be a repeat successful gimmick. You're arguing that Nintendo will leapfrog the PS4/Nextbox in 4-5 years and that will help the system be a success?
This, in my opinion, makes me think less of EA. If Activision, and Ubisoft for gods sake can support the Wii U, so can EA. The amount of hyperbole over the Wii U's death is staggering right now, but most of you guys know, even if it is comedic gold to lambaste Nintendo right now, they will turn the tide.
EA knows this as well. Now if this is only a temporary lapse of support, which would seem better than no support at all, is still silly. Not building an audience with the growing cliental can lead to laggard sells in the long haul.
Nintendo themselves made their system the "2nd class citizen" by delivering a greatly inferior product to existing machines with the Wii U: The reason Black Ops 2 for Wii U lacked the Nuketown map was due to the fact that Nintendo didn't support DLC at launch - that was patched in later (December).

Self-fulfilling prophecy. How well has it sold? There's your answer.

If Wii U struggles and Nintendo does another five year cycle, why not leapfrog PS4 in 2017...
Iwata wouldn't do it probably but as Fourth Storm said, he may not be around to have a say in the matter.
