EA Sports trailer: #teamreal or #teamcg?

What? It was clearly real. And the TV controls were being done live with a Kinect microphone in a full auditorium, because voice control is reliable, works, and is never frustratingly inaccurate.

Seemed like all the Xbox One unveilings had a similar graphic quality to them, sort of an early CG look - hard to explain, the closest I can come up with is like PS2/PSP CG. That sounds like a dig - but it's really not, just trying to find an analogue to that similar texture

Given that, I feel like they were all in engine, logic dictating if you were going to go CG, you'd make it more impressive than the graphics that were shown. If they were real time, really impressive stuff.

It was done by a visual effects house.

You guys do realize that real-time rendered computer graphics is...CG? Shocking, I know!

So it should be #teamprerender vs. #teamrealtime. Not as catchy, admittedly.

Personally, I think it was a real-time rendered cinematic, but not using the actual in-game engine. I know EA is a little sleazy, but when they say "This is what our games will look on One", and then show a cinematic that was pre-rendered on a super computer...that's going too far.

Anyone remember?

I was about 70% sure the entire EA trailer featured bullshots. This means we got less than a minute of true next-gen gameplay footage (I'm excluding CoD: Ghosts because it seriously looked like it came out two years ago...) in a one-hour reveal. Awful.

Whether it was pre-rendered or real-time, you won't be seeing the game from those camera angles unless it's a replay.

Most of the time, the camera will be panned way out so you can see the playing field. At that distance, it'll be impossible to notice the fine grain details.

That's besides the point though, I think. Hopefully everyone is aware of that. But people are flat-out saying that it couldn't be rendered on the One in real time, which I think is rather presumptuous.

I doubt it was real. This industry loves using CG for announcements. And of course, EA has does it before...

Madden 06 (360) called and it wants it's trailer back.

No way Madden is going to look that good, it's fucking EA, they're going to 1/2 ass it just like they have all this gen.

Also, EA hasn't put out a NBA game in two years and now they've figured it out on brand new hardware, yeah right.

It might have been rendered on an Xbox, but still. Show it from actual gameplay angles, with a HUD. Then we can see how much of an improvement it is. My guess, not enough and that's why they used a cinematic trailer.

#teamcg

but it still didn't look that great, i think they just didn't want to get slammed again like last gen with the madden target

"What we are about to show you is your first look at actual in game footage of our new sports line up for Xbox One" - EA guy

*Shows trailer that has ps2 era CGI*

I mean come the fuck on. That's not in game footage. Why did they even bother to come on stage just to piss us off?

I'm really starting to dislike the way these big game companies are trying to hoodwink consumers. Thank God for sites and forums like Gaf that act as watchdogs.

Yeah, some of the running animations just look silly.

If NBA 2K can implement specific players' jumpshots, EA can afford to frickin' include player-specific throwing motions.

EA did the exact same thing 8 years ago. Why would it bother you now?

Maybe xbox one games look like ps2 era cg. It's not like what they showed was impressive

Heres the thing, if they had real time gameplay to show then THEY WOULD SHOW IT instead of showing a shitload of wireframes and wip models in Maya

What I what to know is did they really expect us to cheer on some EA representative? I mean, all the actors went fucking wild for that guy.
