EA Sizzles Up Summertime with Six New Game Announcements

Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ:ERTS) will unveil six new titles today at its annual Studio Showcase media event on its Redwood City campus. These latest products from EA range from the whimsical to strategic, athletic to horrific. EA will also be showcasing its strong digital initiatives.

“We’re proud of the games EA is releasing this year and pleased with the awards they won at E3”

The briefing can be viewed live exclusively at GameSpot at 1 PM PST on Tuesday, July 20. Media will be able to get their hands-on the games and get face time with the game developers. An appearance by San Francisco Bay Area NFL® athletes will showcase a new title from EA SPORTS™, also to be announced at the event.

“We’re proud of the games EA is releasing this year and pleased with the awards they won at E3,” said EA’s COO John Schappert. “Our Summer Showcase is dedicated to highlighting the progress on our games as well as announcing new titles, features and services.”

Might as well add my list:

- Tim Schafer downloadable game, November 2010
- Dead Space Extraction 2 (will be named Termination or something like that)
- Mass Effect 2.5 launching in January

We have about 2 left.

Known:
1. Fight Night Champion
2. Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning (game form Big Huge Games/38 Studios)
3. Darkspore (A new Spore game from Maxis)
4. A new Sims 3 expansion pack --> some members of big Sims fansites were invited (maybe Sims3 for consoles)

The Spore/Sims 3 things haven't actually been confirmed yet, although if Sims fansite members have been invited, that would basically be a confirmation of something Sims related.

God I hope the rest are better than these.

So, 6 instead of 7 and we know about 3 already? :/
I think they initially said they'll reveal seven games, now they say they'll announce six games. Maybe both statements are true, and the seventh game is a title we already know about but haven't seen so far. Like Dead Space Ignition or the Suda/ Mikami project. Both would fit the "horrific" description.

Hope we'll see, or at least hear about some more 3DS stuff. A Dead Space in 3D would be very nice.
I don't see any more substantive 3DS announcements until Nintendo has their inevitable fall media event and the floodgates reopen.

I want Mirror's Edge 2 so badly.

I doubt that it'll be announced there. It seems like ME2 only has a small team working on it at the moment since the rest of DICE is devoted to Battlefield games and MoH's multiplayer.

Announce it today and show it at ComicCon, I mean they can show just a short Cinematic trailer and say come to ComicCon to see it ingame, they have done something similar with the game from 38 Studios/BHG which will be unveiled at ComicCon but announced today.

I don't know. Nintendo is at Comic-Con this year, which starts tomorrow. If they are there to show the 3DS to the public, more info might come sooner than expected. If they don't plan to promote the 3DS at Comic-Con, you're probably right, and we'll have to wait 'till October. Or GamesCom - if we're lucky.

No More Heroes 3 for PC/360!
Suda already stated that the next No More Heroes will be on Nintendo's next system. Which reminds me: He called the 3DS "Nintendo's next system" in a recent interview, and stated that he wants to do "the next game" on that platform.

PC?

And didn't Suda say he was done with that series?

Also, I don't think they're gonna announce Darkspore, weren't they saving that for Comic-Con?
He's done with Travis, he's not done with the franchise. He wants to do a third game, but with a different protagonist. I hope it'll star Shinobu. With actually working jumping mechanics this time, please.

How big is DICE? With all the projects they appear to be attached to, can they even do this as well? Note, I really want Mirror's Edge 2 as well. I spent so much time trying to get the perfect speed runs without resorting to constantly jumping like a buffoon.

Too bad. Wasn't there a rumor the day before E3 that Nintendo would allow 3rd parties to talk about their 3DS projects as soon as their press conference ends, though? It seems most publishers didn't do much, but Koei-Tecmo, Konami, Capcom and EA actually issued press releases and released assets within a few days, if not hours after the 3DS reveal.

The first one had kind of a nice-ish art style but it felt really, really self-indulgent (and tried way too hard to be Dark For Teenagers, kinda like Twisted Metal Black) and wasn't actually a particularly well-designed game even if the level variety was nice. American McGee doesn't have the pedigree he thinks he has.

Still, a good trailer could convince me to be interested.

sounds like 7 titles to me, they said "also" for the EA Sports title, as if it were a separate brand.

Didn't the original bomb?

I guess they are cashing in on a vague tie to the movie/dvd/Blu-ray that was released?

Is this what EA has been reduced to? Piggy-backing off other properties w/o a formal license?

This was announced long before anyone knew Burton's Alice would be a success. And from what I remember the original AMA sold well and was well received by gamers and critics.

Looks ingame to me.

Could also be The Ripper. I'd like to see that and Suda's game. The rest so far, meh.
