Man that is some straight up Bastard stuff, I love itThe early designs for Chrono Trigger were radical as fuck:
I'm probably not in the majority, but I'd much rather have got a clean version of that than the generic Akira Toriyama stuff.
The early designs for Abel as a girl seemed pretty cool.

Street Fighter IV's Rufus.
Actually that's a boy, made to look like a girl. But yeah, this was the the first thing to pop up into my head.
I still love Abel's fighting style, but that design would have made me loved the character a lot more.
There is no way that sketch was done in the early 90s.
He looks more likea shadow here.
"Screw the rules, I have green hair"
I'm surprised I've never seen these before. I take it that's the design for Edgeworth that was reworked into Von Karma, but who's the guy in blue? Gumshoe?
Man, can't wait for that Udon Ace Attorney art book to be released here soon.
Cilan, is that you?Phoenix Wright Ace attorney

specifically the one in the middle, I really prefer that design over the Maya fey we got, but beggars can't be choosers.
That is a great design. The actual Abel looks hideous. The early designs for Abel as a girl seemed pretty cool.

Honestly, the Bayonetta we got is waaaay less homogeneous than those designs. I can't really think of another character that looks much like her. Those designs however look like what you see in every issue of Imagine FX or other character design books.Definitely liked the early Bayonetta designs over the skintight homogeneous black leather outfit in the final version:

We absolutely lucked out.
Speaking of Ace Attorney:

Love the game, but I really really dislike Apollo's final design.
We had a thread about Ace Attorney concept art fairly recently, too.

Who gives a shit? My guess is not many. The original Rufus was superior to what we got forgetting the original outfit being just a gi.Most people who like Rufus' original concept use "would of" instead of "would have".
I'm partial to the bottom left and right.
I like the one in the left better. Which one is the original design?I liked the original design for Stella in FFXV more than the new one. She looked more mature.

I for one (and I'm probably gonna take a lot of shit for this one) was really up for the tentative version of Cole in Infamous 2.

What the hell happened here?
I like the one in the left better. Which one is the original design?
The redesigned version was way less generic because it would've been made at a time when the majority of male character design=grim face and shaved head and represented the new Cole more. And it looked great in-game.Bald white dude = nao skinhead?
He still looks better than generic douche male model.

I mean sure, he kinda looks generic as hell, but I'd have much preferred something more representative of some character evolution rather than copping out back bald-gritty Cole due to the fan whiplash. Like if they gave this concept more of a chance, I think they could have tweaked it further to a point where strikes a balance that'll satisfy Infamous 1 fans in some way.
It was even more jarring that his new voice and dialogue for the game was clearly meant for this redesign.
Dark Souls 2
This is the one I came in for. Absolutely preferred the original (left).I liked the original design for Stella in FFXV more than the new one. She looked more mature.

Coming for Sonic too...
With so much iterations and redesigns I dont understand why Sonic Team never went for the anime style of Sonic CD.

I dream about a classic Sonic with that art style.
I like the one in the left better. Which one is the original design?
Really? That'd have been really cool. I love the SF4 series, but it'd have been nice having one guy that isn't a mountain of muscles.Actually that's a boy, made to look like a girl. But yeah, this was the the first thing to pop up into my head.

Still looks cool but yea
Aside from slightly different trousers and perhaps a mildly prettier face in the second image, I don't see a difference...?

True, no ps3 open world game had IQ that good. Still looked pretty good though, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1C3MD4IKnKM. At least SP didn't change Delsin's design due to criticism of the beanie.OT, but that's an amazing bullshot. The game looks nowhere near as good as that, even in the cutscenes.
I agree with this as someone who's almost never played SF. The original design looks really bland.I actually think final Rufus is the better design for one reason: Originality. How many fighter characters are super obese white dudes obsessed with Kung-Fu?

Pliskin/Solid Snake with blonde hair in the Plant section of MGS2.
So much better than the ultra generic guy we ended up with.

The problem had nothing to do with the design. It's the fact that it simply wasn't Cole.So much better than the ultra generic guy we ended up with.
