This looks a bit stupid. A little boy and a freaky looking animal. Looks like someone blended a bird, a rat, a cat and a hyena.

SOTC on the other hand looks so much better.

I agree in that I think that the Beast looks a bit silly in that state, but keep in mind this is akin to a prototype. Chances are the final version will look anywhere from slightly to dramatically different.

I wouldnt get your hopes up too much. Out of everything in the video, the creature looks to be the only "finished" design. Those folks that expect the creature to turn into some bad ass monster with laser beams are setting themselves up for disappointment.

Still, I don't understand why someone would want them to change this creatures design in the first place. It's probably the most loveable creation a developer has come up with in a long time...

to be honest, Id actually be disappointed if the creature design changed...

I'm sure I'll grow accustomed to it with time if it is the final version, I don't have any strong feelings against it, I just think that this:

2rnv6kn.jpg

looks a bit too bizarre for my tastes, so it's hard to take seriously right of the bat.

I have total faith in Team ICO though (they've earned it), so I'll be along for the ride, in any case.

If not ever. I agree that it seems to be the most finished part by far in the video, all the details and animations show that there have been man-months invested into that creature. It makes me sad that some people think such a loveable, unique and massively detailed rendition of animal behaviour (look at how many people associated some of its actions with their pets!) is "silly", but it's not really surprising.

Ueda should blow everyones mind and make it have the happiest ending of any game ever in the history of all videogames including everything.

With the vast amount of weird animals that exist/have existed I have no problem with the pokemon.

If we're getting really down to it he might have a too heavy body and he seems built like a rat, so I'm not sure if he'd be able to fly unless his wings are the shit.

He only looks weird because it's a lot of distinct animal features that we know mashed together into something foreign.

if you're going to say something insulting about me, do it directly. none of this passive aggressive stuff thanks

Yeah the creature looks weird and ugly, but is that a bad thing? If Ueda says it's not supposed to look like a traditional chimera, then it won't look like one.

Am I the only one sensing an ugly swan story?

pfff, the monster looks perfectly 'natural' to me...obviously there is a lot of mechanistic perception at work here
obviously.

Durante is good people.

I wouldn't mind a happy ending..but knowing his past games, I just don't see it happening.

Just watching that trailer evokes a sadness to me, you can tell the creature needs your help as much as you need its..

I can not wait for this game...it's become the most anticipated title of the generation for me.

I'm sorry? I wasn't aware I insulted anyone, and I hadn't even seen your post when I wrote mine.

That thing is going to eat barrels, grow up, and you're going to get to fly that mother fucker! :D

Nope, and that's kinda why I made my above statement. Happiest ending ever please (I can't take another sad ending. :()

This. Just look at it.. it looks weird.

I really hope you can kill it in the game.

If it makes you feel better, that is most certainly, obviously, not the final creation. They are going for animation here (in this obvious demo reel), not graphics, the fur shader on it is very low resolution.

LOL, you are just plain evil. Go back to playing your Killzones and Halos and leave our Ueda games alone.

Hmm, I'd say the fur shading (on the head and even ears) is quite well done, what's on the body is more like "feather shading". I agree with the earlier poster that said that it may well change less than people expect (of course, it is possible that it changed a lot).

The creature has grown on me 100% and now I hope he isn't changed much for the final version. Funny how that worked out. :P

I thought it looked weird at first too, but I think what might be throwing people off is the lighting and atmosphere in the different shots. The frontal shots where it is outside in the sun light make it look weird and almost like a photoshop. These are the first you see of the animal, and it's kind of off putting at first.

I know this isn't a trailer, but they should have left the part where he comes into the light out for now.

The pics where it's in the cave etc look great imo.

All of this "Sad Ending" Talk. The little Ratbird Kitten (:lol) obviously is a prisoner, which raises a question; why is there a little boy in the prison as well? Maybe he's related to someone who's cursed, and the entire family is locked up? Someone with horns?

Maybe by the end of the game, Kittenbird Rat (:lol) grows some wings, allowing him and the boy to escape, allowing the "Wander Bloodline" (or even the power of his curse) to escape into the wide world at large. That way everybody's happy :D

Maybe it's MEANT to look weird and ugly. Maybe you're meant to be bloody scared of the thing at the start of the game, but you slowly start to love its weirdness...because it's about what's on the inside, not the outside that counts.

SHAME ON YOU!

yeah, I would say that it's so ugly that it's cute. Plus the way it moves and looks at you, remind me of pets I've owned. That's pretty incredible if you think about it.

So, this has now been up over a day on YouTube without Sony removing it.

It's been clear for a while that they won't. The video somewhat ends abruptedly. What is weird is that on their website, they have a few screens of scenes that do not appear at all in the video. So I guess it was somewhat deliberate.
