The most valuable factor of achievements is that they elucidate how easily people lose interest in a game. And how few people actually complete them.
I don't trade many games in, but on the rare occasion I have, the dude behind the counter has put the disc into a console and booted it, then taken it out when the dev and publisher logos play. I'm guessing it's to see if it works. I wonder if stuff like that contributes. One of the most surprising figures to me was hearing that the achievement you get for pushing the start button in The Simpsons Game on the 360 wasn't at 100 percent.
That would mean that people either purchased the game digitally or put the game in and then never played it.
Seriously, you get the achievement the first time you hit a button after booting the game.
Avatar The Last Airbender - The Burning Earth for XBOX 360
You can get 1000 achievement points in 3 minutes pressing only 1 button and I bet not many bought the game.

Trophy/achievement community is just as strong now as it ever was as far as I can tell. If anything I see a lot of new people getting in to them all the time on places like Reddit and PSNProfiles.I just think the majority of people care THAT little for achievements now. They were a novel thing during the 360 days, now they're just a source of annoying popups.

I haven't done it yet but I'm going to buy a shirt before I sell the game just because I've never seen the "rare achievement" popup before.
Wait on XBOX the YouTube app has achievements? That's cool as hell
Yeah, NBA 2k6 and King Kong are 2 that come to mind. Never played them. Not sure about recent games, but I recall a majority of 360 launch titles having absurdly easy Achievements. I'm going to guess that most people missed those, especially those that didn't get a 360 until later in its life.

Most players have these but I'm always surprised when there's a trophy/achievement for just starting the game and it's sitting at 80% since the game isn't added to the list until you actually boot it up.

And it's baffling to me how the very first achievement you get automatically four minutes into a game only has an 80% completion ratio among players.

Rare Replay the thread.
Or maybe people just don't care about achievements to waste time playing games they won't like? I think people overestimate the amount that actually give a shit about achievements. To me obvious easy achievements like "complete first mission" being rare doesn't really count, that's just padded out with people not actually playing the game.Yes! I was floored by how few people were willing to play like 20 minutes of the older games to snag all the achievements. Maybe I have a high tolerance for old Spectrum stuff, but come on.
