What is it with weird Labour leader faces?

Here's NZ's recently sacked retired Labour leader David Cunliffe.

It's meant to matter more what he says, not how he says it or the way he looks while doing so.
How someone says something and the way they look doing so is a big aspect of being the leader of a country. Those two things instil confidence in the minds of the electorate and as such I don't think they should be underestimated.

Me either, but regardless of his leadership qualities (or lack of them) I still think the meat of his arguments is what should take centre stage, not a picture of him looking weird while eating meat.

Besides the iraq war, how much difference is there?

He told the US he wouldn't toe the line on Israel, so that's something.

It's still a fairly recent thing. Until the 1980s, we never had particularly "TV-friendly" PMs, it's only really with 24 hour news and greater media scrutiny that this has come about.

I'm sure photographers and newspapers have no narrative agenda at all in not filtering through the awkward photos. I know he looks awkward at times but the papers definitely go for the awkward pics on purpose.

If it's a Tory v Labour vote next year I'm still voting Labour.

Bit earlier than that, I think. Harold Wilson was noted for his TV and radio presence, and contemporaneously Kennedy in the States, so I'd say the early '60s. The problem has only become worse, though, as visual media uptake increases.

I can't wait for the "I'd vote for the female politician, if she wasn't so funny looking" thread.

I dunno man, I just find Miliband to be amusing, is all. This is a thread Miliband. I'd rather let someone else make another thread about another politician if they want to.

I'm pretty sure Diane Abbot left. (the frontbench I mean)
You're right though, Ed Balls does need to be jettisoned. It does feel like he's the one most desperately clinging to nu-Labour, and I think that in itself is what is putting too many people off the party.

Yes I know. I'm referencing more about her completely incompetent interviews.

How did David lose?

Ed got in bed with the Unions and used them to stab his brother in the back and win the party election. He then stabbed the Unions in the back by going back on all his promises and basically told them to fuck off.

But we should still totally trust him because...

... Because...?

One thing I found interesting was how he reacted to getting egged a few months back. He was rather ok with it... In fact, a little too ok. How often does someone smile like that after getting pelted with a few eggs?
