EDGE: "How critical and consumer feedback made Xbox One a contender again"

Right now, kinnect is causing the xbone to cost $100, while being little more than paperweight for most of the countries being released.
But shouldn't we see the "true" demonstrations at launch to justify the mandatory inclusion?

The only thing the kinnect will be useful for will be low level UI interface like "xbox on" and collecting advertising information about its users. This is what I believe most people will use the kinnect for and this advantage will be negated as Sony is also offering voice and facial recognition with its camera.

While I think what you say is true, kinect is much better than the PS camera imo. Might not be in a price perspective but it really appeals to me because its motion gaming lacks the need for a controller which opens up more possibilities.

I believe they have definitely bounced back in a big way, but the proof is in the pudding. If the visual quality and performance of their exclusives is comparable to or surpasses Sony's offerings then I wouldn't be surprised to see MS make a lot more noise on the sales charts than a lot of people are expecting.

I'm still disturbed by how often KZ is overlooked despite how incredible it looks, and how technically solid it is- and for a fucking launch game to boot. It might be like Watch Dogs where it's been seen so many times that it's lost the new fresh feeling.

So for the comparison to be made to Halo, which won't be out till late next year, I can't help but chuckle a little. Might as well compare whatever MS has to what Sony MIGHT have later?

So Edge is back at being friends with microsoft again. Was already wondering whether the world is ending when they were heralding the PS4.

Ryse looking better than anything on the PS4 at launch is disputable (Killzone: Shadowfall), same goes for Dead Rising 3 over Infamous Second Son.

Lobb's comment regarding the hardware is laughable again. The PS4 only has 'a little more' GPU power (~50%) but the ESRAM has crazy bandwith compared to the GDDR5?

I think its clear to everyone that the Xbox One has the far superior launch lineup, and with games like Titanfall the first year it will have the best games as well. For a forum that is crazy about gaming, you would think more people would choose the XB1 rather than the PS4. Even the OS, Online and Software will be better on XB1, especially once Windows 8 apps become available on it.

People get too worried about the technicalities of the machine hardware rather than looking at what's really important, which is which console has the best games.

Major Nelson? Is that you?

A couple of noted launch titles and TitanFall and that determines which system will have "the best" software in the first year? Wow.

not to mention just blatantly disregarding port differences which have already been mentioned by more than a few devs will be likely.

not saying the xbone doesn't have anything going for it... but for "games on a game crazy forum" your argument isn't very compelling.

As for OS, I don't think I've seen anything to EVER believe an OS makes a difference.. We'll see. And online will see tremendously greater parity in features this gen... and the biggest boon to online is completely irrelevant to which is better.. It's where your friends are. PS3 had so many problems for a year or two after launch that the online playbase just existed on 360. So far if anything, the PS4 is showing very strong indications of outselling XBONE early on at least.. If that continues for any amount of time, eventually PS4 would just be the online leader because.... that's where most players would be.

I'll admit that the XB1 has the better launch lineup if you do not take into account Indies. However, I can think of two big reasons why people would choose PS4 over XB1 and that is $100 and Kinect.

Wait...

As I have already stated. I know about the DRM stuff on Xbox One. But my point still stands. The original system would have allowed you to install retail bought games onto the system such that you could run any game at any time without requiring the original install disk. I would have liked a system like that.

Install a retail disk then play without the disk. So you then just be left with a useless disk.

Well I have a solution for that, its called a digital copy.

Microsoft’s exclusives are more convincing than anything Sony has shown on PS4 to date. Killzone is no Halo; DriveClub, now delayed, never looked like measuring up to Forza; and Dead Rising 3 now looks like a smarter bet for open-world mayhem than Second Son.

What sense is there in comparing Halo to Killzone? Halo 4 hardly set the world on fire, and 5 isn't a launch title.
lol at the dig comparing Dead Rising 3 to Second Son, one looks like a generational leap and the other began as a 360 game. But it's a safe bet for [reasons]

You people are getting trolled by EDGE, they get hits. I know I am not clicking. Even when they praised PS4. Worst site around. Bunch of trolls

Which is why you've spent most of your post talking about services, W8 apps and online.

Factually incorrect.

The system you allowed you to be able to still trade in your game at a MS approved retailer.
This would have allowed consumers the choice of buying brand new or second hand.

The other thing about buying a digital copy. The point of retail is that games are normally heavily discounted once past the initial launch period. The consumer would have the ability to buy cheap games and still have the ability to install them.

Sorry, and you approve of that? in what wholly shit of a planet is that even considered acceptable to a consumer????

Reads like a press release.

Also, they really want their DRM back.

"Too far into the future"

Sounds like most if not all of their original plans will end up coming back one way or another.

That's one of the main reasons why I refuse to buy a Xbox One. I just don't trust Microsoft any longer like many people do when Microsoft said, "These DRM policies are "completely gone," guys! C'mon back to us!".

I'll repeat my three rules of EDGE that I've posted long ago in their various reviews threads:

1. Is it a Nintendo game? Give it a an extra point or two 'cause 'tendo nostalgia.

2. Is it a game made in the UK? Give it two or three extra points because jingoism.

3. Otherwise farm those clicks!

I understood the original PS4 cock sucking article. It came just after E3. Sony was smelling like roses and MS was shitting the bed, taking anti consumer moves left and right. It was a bit short sighted, crass and dumb but it made sense at the time and followed current sentiment.

This on the other hand reads like some moneyhatted shit and is basically just "Microsoft things the xbox one is pretty dope. All those Sony game suck. Have you seen Titanfall? I hear its good. Microsoft told me so".

I dont know... Maybe Edge is just playing people for clicks.

Consumers already had the choice of buying brand new or second hand...and that's without giving up their right to trade/sell with any retailer or Craigslist denizen they preferred.

I'm a developer and even I think that was a boneheaded move. 100% anti-consumer.

Ding ding ding.

Plus now they literally can't be wrong no matter which system comes out on top.

I think the thing that bothers me most about astroturfers is how blatant they are.

Like, presumably that's your job, which you're getting paid for. At least try and be subtle about it.

Yes but my main point was that the original idea was to allow you to install all of your retail games to the hard drive such that you could just switch on the Xbox One and play any game you owned.
I still like that idea and I hope one day they can bring that back somehow.

And precisely why people have trust issues.

kinnect is definitely a better camera, no questions about it. The thing is that we have yet to see decent games for kinnect. If you are into motion gaming then it will be invaluable, however the thing is that most people could care less about motion gaming, certainly not enough to justify it's mandatory inclusion.

For example, lets look at the peeking out of the cover feature in BF4. Do you think anyone playing BF4 will want to use this feature? It will be nothing more than a hindrance and will be turned off.

I don't know what it says about me as a person that I found this to be the most hilarious bishbanned gif of them all. Carry on.

Hhahahaha, did not notice Bish on that at all. Genius

Yes I do get you point on how there is very little content out there and frankly what MS have showcased for their pride and joy is abysmal. The BF4 thing as you say is impractical, but I believe that kinect if developed for properly, can be a true masterpiece of motion gaming. Understandably it probably wouldn't tickle the fancies of a hardcore gaming crowd but for someone like me that is quite exciting. To be honest what I imagine for the kinect is something along the lines of a fully interactive fighting game (that actually works). This might or might not be practical but I can dream haha. Hopefully PS will come up a good use for its camera too.

I'm a developer and even I think that was a boneheaded move. 100% anti-consumer.

Perhaps, but it is also pro-retailer.

As we drift closer and closer to digital only exclusive releases and then the digital only future games retailers are going to start dropping like flies.
They are already wilting

Yeah man that's just wonderful for the consumer.

Last I saw, digital games are also cheap too.

But the new scheme allowed the benefits of digital distribution's account-based ownership. While I definitely understand and agree that it was a dumb move, to pretend it didn't have benefits as well is disingenuous. The negatives clearly outweighed the positives of the plan they outlined, and doubly so to the general gaming populace.

Xbox One is a weaker machine and costs $100 more. Yeah the launch lineup is way better imo on the Xbone, but who cares? 90% of everything I am playing next gen will be 3rd party and on both consoles. Why not save $100? If I believed MS would have this level of exclusives all through the gen, I'd be all over it.

I can fully understand your concern.

You clearly don't own a WiiU then. It's cheaper to buy retail then buy from the Nintendo WiiU shop in the UK. By a fair bit.

This isn't about the Wii U though or Nintendo. Sony and Microsoft have very cheap digital games. And installing a retail disk just so you don't need the disk anymore seems pretty useless. That's what digital copies are for no matter how you want to spin it.
