Edge March 2007 - Scores, 12 page MGS4 special

I get a funny feeling you would not be saying that if the game in question was a 360 game.

As for Cloud...

I hate to ignore someone with such a cool screen name but you leave me little choice.

Hey, 360 owners buy their games REGARDLESS of what score it gets!

BzzZZZzzz!!

Could Someone explain Crackdown to me? Is it like Saints Row(I liked SR), it it a BIG city like SR, a fairly long game(20-30hrs?) I saw some screen shots and the graphics looked suppar to SR,am I wrong. I am seriously getting tired of great looking and playing games like Lost Planet, it might be a good game, but not $60 good.(Only a GREAT game like GeOW can get $60 out of me, for a ten hour game)

I can explain it in one word: The Best And Greatest Game You Will Ever Play.

Download the demo. And then you'll say "Wow. That wasn't even hyperbole."

I love the guy, but I do not believe that was a singlehanded effort. Who, individually, do we "thank" for Bethesda lowering DLC prices after the horse armer debacle? Unless there's an instant, unanimous and horrified wince from the consumer populace, a few people wondering why the experience they had with a demo didn't match up with one reviewer's (out of what like dozens??) experience with the final version is most likely not going to bring down EDGE Magazine.

When I say Luke and GAF I mean some press memebers and the internet forums. Those companies do listen to that stuff you know.

ITs a really big city with alot of movement, but...think of it more like RObocop. You-re a special cop to fight the crime on the city that is on an all time high.

And then...you just break shit.

I admittedly know next to nothing about Crackdown, but the green orbs thing gets me strangely excited. Random, semipointless collectibles littered inexplicably over the landscape? That's old school.

I don't really care too much about one review score. Now if numerous publications give a game that I openly enjoyed then I might express my disagreement (lost planet, star wars obi-wan, chromehounds).

Sometimes I do observe an editor's past perspectives/scores and then based on that observation disregard that editor's opinion, but I never go as far as to claim a publication is incompetent or too oblivious to understand a racing games basic features.

Not only are there the 500 green Agility orbs placed in anywhere from high to really high places that marginally improve the Agility stat, there's also 300 blue Secret Orbs hidden in all sorts of places that marginally improve all stats.

So yeah, lots to collect. And the best part is that they are unnecessary to your progression. You can level up all 5 stats with your actions and collect 0 orbs, if you wish.

Am I the only person that cares about armed assault? Buying it anyway. Operation Flashpoint remains one of my favourite games ever, they can't have ****ed up the formula that much.

Wait... what? I may have to download this demo after all....

Crackdown will be a million+ seller and is worthy of the "Crack" in the name. People are addicted to it.
People have been playing the hell out of it. We've had three weeks of Live activity charts since it came out and it's placed #3, #2, and #4 those three weeks. For the f'ing demo. The game is going to be huge.

And the SUV turns into this behemoth which can drive up buildings. :D

I've found that driving up buildings with the SUV is quite difficult. :(

They never intended for it to drive up walls. It will do it, but it takes some coaxing.
someone said in the Crackdown thread you just hit B to stick to them. There's a video out there of the SUV driving up multi-story buildings and launching over the top. Haven't tried it myself - saving a few things for the final game.

Tilt? who would use tilt in an F1 game anyway? Precise steering and tilt don`t go together!
Sony's refusal to cooperate with Immersion is hurting them in the long run. They'd have to be utterly stupid not to see what is going on with their fans who want FFB but can't get it. After the Immersion/Sony lawsuit trial is over, if Sony does not come to an agreement with Immersion and put FFb and rumble back into their games, their racing game sales are going to be disappointingly slow to say the least.

An Edge thread without covers? For shame GAF!

The crackdown demo only showed me how awesome the HULK UD game truly is. I had to go back to that game and knew I didn't need to buy crackdown.

Big City: Check
Fairly Long Game (20-30hours):
Incredible Gameplay for a sandbox game: Check
Progressive Story, err, any real story:
Co-op: Check

Packed with Halo 3 Beta invite: CHECK...

My take, Gamefly it... you seem like me that you want a lengthy game, and if you don't enjoy making your own games up, like, how many cars you can throw into the water in one minute, or, how many people you can blow up and set on fire with one charge, this isn't for you... Lost Planet is justified in price...

Now, if you're amused with doing the stuff I mentioned before... just run around killing random people... kicking cars around... climbing up buildings... and stuff like that rather than actual mission/story based stuff, then maybe you can stretch out some time in it...

This is just IMHO...

sigh. no new metal gear info? :'(

I'm getting tired of this next-gen info drought. oh well, gdc isn't too far now.

Yeah...how do you have a 12 page article on MGS4 with no new info?

I don't know if you are being sarcastic or not, but Hulk: Ultimate Destruction is a decently fun game.

It's worth a play if you can find it for >$20.

You talk about a game you mostly ignored in your previews section since its announcement putting together all the info you didn't pass to your readers.

Edge did a preview some time ago tho. This one is partly a recap/update and an analysis of the series as a whole. My guess is they hoped to have something new to say but eventually Konami didn't greenlight a thing and Kojima ended up talking about nothing.

Can someone who has the magazine tell me the name of the F1 reviewer?

They don't credit reviewers specifically - there's only a list of contributors at the back.

Edit: No, the front.

Is this magazine worth subscribing to if you live overseas? I purchased an issue (I believe) while I was in Europe, but paying over 100 dollars for a 1 year subscription to Edge? Is it worth that if you live in the U.S.

Good catch... but if I had to guess, it's actually going to be for HL2: Episode 2 -- 'cos they're using orange (just like the "Orange Pack") and there's the robot character Dog... looks like they just nicked the ND logo.

Or hey, maybe they're showing both. :)

Now I know why they gave Armed Assault a 5. PC Gamer Uk gave it 70% btw.

It is incredibly buggy, probably the buggiest game I've played, the AI is totally broken. THe single player is piss compared to Op flashpoint, there is ZERO character development (Op Force was awesome for that you played 4 different guys, now you're just a generic soldier fufilling different roles in each mission). The missions are varied and city fighting is something new. But damn they desperately need to fix vehicle pathing and AI in general.

The good news is BIS supported Op Flashpoint really really well. They've already announced a new patch that should be out by the end of this month. They'll fix the mess but the campaign is still a little disappointing. The real awesomeness will come with player made content no doubt.

Bumping an old thread, but I was scanning through the mag the other day in WHSmith's and the character models in MGS 4 are amazing. Does anyone have the pictures I'm talking about, Otacon, solid snake, raiden they look more like hand drawn paintings than in-game models, the material on Otacon's jacket just looks so good, anyone got big versions of the pics?
