EGM Announces Switch to Letter Grading Reviews

I don't like it. If they are complaining that readers don't get that a game can be good but not great, why not just ditch a grading scale entirely and use only the text in the review? Then they fuck over metacritic even more, and not have to deal with people bitching about low scores.
Remember the CGW review-scores rebellion about two years ago?

I really don't think they should convert the whole backlog of review scores to the letter grades. Not only will people bring the scores up to prove stupid points about how badly a new game scored, but EGM was as guilty as everyone else of scoring mediocre games scores in the 7 range. Almost every game in their back catalog is going to be rated a B or higher, and will make games getting new scores look bad. At the very least it's going to give fanboys ammunition to use against their reviews or to contest scores... which is what they were trying to avoid with all of this.

and yet egm will still produce amateur editorial content

who gives a shit about review scales? how about actually dedicating more space to effectively write up on a game.

The scoring system carries too much weight. I say screw A's and B's and 5's and 10's. Write an honest intelligent review, tell me what you liked and didn't like, tell me how it made you feel, show me game play, then let me decide whether to get it or not. If you subscribe to the "video games are art" notion, you know you can't get away with saying...." Um..Picaso's Starry Night uh..9.5, Bob Ross Wildlife painting #123...6.5"
