Oh my

I'll just drop in here to congratulate David Braben, who will receive an OBE in the Queens Birthday Honours list announced this morning.

EDIT. Should have been a CBE. Then at least we could say is "Right on, Commander!"

That sound design is fantastic, the ship engines sound absolutley amazing, and the sense of speed is very well done.

This might be my first space sim since X3 that I'm genuinely excited about, any way to get myself in this game without paying stupid money?

Wait.

That stealth video linked earlier looks awesome. Never really got into space sims but this looks like the closest I'll come to being a Viper pilot. Rift support already included?

Compared to Star Citizen, Rift integration is 100x better in Elite Dangerous with positional tracking included for DK2.

First Kickstarter I backed day one, I was a little surprised there wasn't more interest at the time too but I'm glad that's changing.

I really should try it out but very tempted as always to wait for the finished product to keep it all a fresh surprise.

Really pleased for David, quite the humble guy.

I was wondering something and maybe someone can answer it for me, i've been looking at videos from E3 from both Elite dangerous and older vids of star citizen. but how is it that Elite looks so much further in development while it looks huge etc, I know the scope and ambition of SC is so much times bigger then Elite but it looks way more behind on dev.

Im not comparing games btw, i will get them both and i love this genre, its just curiousity.

To be completely realistic, you have to factor in the immense gravity force from the planet as well. At those speeds, turning could fuck up with your centripal acceleration leaving you prone to spiraling out of control.

Somehow that is what I've taken from this Video... even if the guy playing didn't spin out.

Highly recommended you at least get a joystick setup, even if it's just a stick with a small throttle notch (Extreme 3D Pro is about $30. Was able to find T.Flight HOTAS X for the same price too in Microcenter).

Aww dratz! Sounds like you are very familiary with this game or genre, so thanks for the thoughts.

So you would not recommend playing this game whatsoever without a joystick?

I'm definitely not buying a joystick because I don't want another piece of hardware in my place.

Toilets, aquariums, towels, helmet animations, these things takes time my friend! Plus all the web shows they have to make. But its ok, 4 seperate studios are doing assets plus independent contractors, best way to spend money and nothing can possibly go wrong with that.

But seriously, i think CIG just has the wrong priorities.

Gamepad + voice attack should be plenty enough to enjoy the game. Voice attack because its very well supported in Elite and you get so many command shortcuts with simply your voice.

I tend to agree here. I actually just did my SC pledge today, but I'm not entirely certain CIG has all there priorities straight. I would have preferred to back Elite but the pricing structure doesn't fly for me, so I have to wait for launch. I'm actually not terribly raw about the issues you mentioned, but I still think their priorities are off. The planet side FPS module in particular is a total waste; and I'm NOT one of those GAFfers with an irrational hatred of FPSes. I actually love FPSes, even ones GAF isn't keen on like the campaign in BF3. I just think that even just between doing S42 and the PU at the level of fidelity they are shooting for, they are worried about too much extraneous stuff. I understand that since it's first person anyway walking around the hanger, people really want to be able to board ships and fight, which would be fine since it's not that much more work to develop. Developing an additional giant ass planet side FPS system is just a time sink, when it really isn't needed in the first place, or if it is, it should wait and be done as an expansion or something after the game is out. Even just doing the planet side module spaceport exploration in first person is a massively ambitious task, if it will actually have any diversity and avoid recycling interiors ala Mass Effect 1.

They are designing FPS module for on ship combat. Making it on planets its just matter of some maps on planets where You can fight.

To enjoy space sims, it is recommended you at least have a joystick that has hat switches, a stick with pitch, yaw, and roll controls, and some form of throttle control.

You can try your best to attempt the controls on M+K you'd otherwise naturally find with a flightstick accessory, but it simply won't have that precision since there is more that two analog axis of controls needed (quickly reversing your throttle is also crucial during dogfighting in space).

Likewise, a gamepad might suffice but I've heard people having a hard time trying to execute proper docking procedures with it.

If you are abolutely limited with desk space, I advise getting the Logithech Extreme 3D Pro as it is the most compact yet most durable and precise stick I've ever owned and still own to this day. If there is one flightstick for the reluctant "PC master race is only mouse & keyboard" out there, its this one.
