Well, that is only if you want to have only a basic ship that begins on a planet. otherwise, don't !
I only got a hauler so it may be fine. Nothing transfers back to your main save anyways.
So tempted to reset.

Or is there something else that restarting gives you?
Why? Just land down on a planet and that's the same thing. Or is there something else that restarting gives you?
Why not?
I am in a hauler running around with no shields.
How do I even get ready for SRV stuff?
Well Ill probably pull the trigger, but is there any disadvantage in getting the steam version? Or should I go to Frontier's website and get the discounted version. It's also a little cheaper for me on Steam.
I think I read somewhere that Horizons on steam isn't going to be launching at the same time as Horizons on their own website?
Anyone try this in a DK2 yet? Wondering how performance is with all those new planets/station assets.
Looks amazing.
Just a reminder that you need to buy two modules before you can land on a planet/drive a scarab, one of which occupies a size 5 bay (hanger module). Saw that in a YouTube, saved me quite a bit of confusion and frustration.
Elite Dangerous is on sale, if I buy it, will I get a discount on this, how much does this expansion cost? Does the expansion include the base game?
Yes. Sidewinder with the required module and SRV already loadedI know you start on a planet, but do you get a ship that can land on planets and hold SRV?
im really interested in this game...but i have no idea what you do.
is it just flying around? like...like what....what do you do????
So found out from a poster:
Does anyone have details on the two internal modules you need for planetary landings? I'd like to add info on that, plus the restart method, to the OP.

Performance seems fine here (R9 290x).
Can anyone comment on whether they fixed the depth of space for the occulus/3d modes?
I got pulled out of the experience pretty fast when the vastness of space appeared to be a flat texture about 8 feet in front of me.
Hey guys,
With all that is going on right now, we appreciate that the most important thing to many of you is actually being able to enter the Horizons Beta. This is something we are acutely aware of and are working furiously on as a priority.
However for those of you who are in and able to play, he's some of our findings regarding performance on planetary surfaces related to the kind of system you're running.
The planetary shaders we use are very, very advanced, and will cause a significant hit. The framerate on planets will be lower than the rest of the game. Generally we would suggest setting the new terrain quality in the graphics options menu one level lower than the rest of the quality settings for the beta.
On the recommended setting, you can currently expect 45 fps on high settings and 1080p. 4k or 1440p will struggle, but may stay at 30 fps. SLI may provide some extra performance, however Crossfire does not appear to work so well.
Regarding SLI, EliteDangerous64.exe is not natively recognised by NVIDIA as requiring SLI under current drivers, so you may need to manually add those settings while NVIDIA make those changes.
To make those changes, you need to go to the NVIDIA Control Panel and add EliteDangerous64.exe. The settings for SLI will then automatically be applied.
Lower spec cards should choose a lower terrain setting.
A 970 or 980 or higher can do ultra without dropping much below 60 or showing pop in. 4k gaming is possible, but rather around 40 fps with this setting.
It is possible to cause your shaders to crash when starting the game in too high settings. So if this happens to you or if you see bad performance or much popping in with the terrain, set the quality lower, quit the game, delete the GpuWorkTable.xml and run the game again.
Of course if you encounter significant problems, please send us in a ticket or describe them here in this thread.
If you discover a bug, please report it to the Planetary Landings bug report forum.
We hope you're having an amazing time exploring the newest frontier Elite: Dangerous has to offer!

I figure this could use a PSA, because it isn't very evident in game. When you are looking for planetary points of interest, either for a mission or otherwise, they appear passively as you fly, like signal sources do.
Unlike signal sources, they do not appear in world space, they appear on your radar as a dark blue circle. You want to be flying normally above the planet, not in glide mode, and not in orbital cruise. I tend to have more luck at higher altitudes, above around 5KM. I'm not sure if that makes a difference, but it seems to for me.
As you fly towards the circle, it will shrink. You want to land in it, and deploy your SRV, then use the wave scanner to find the object in question. Hopefully this will save someone else hours of frustration.
The annoying part is once you have deployed your SRV the POI magically spawns. Then you can get back into your ship and pewpew. C'mon we're not exiting supercruise or something. Spawn the crashed ship or whatever without me having to get into my SRV to see what it is please!!!
EDIT: I've also had several spawn on some pretty difficult terrain to land on. Landing just outside the circle and trying to drive in doesn't seem to create the actual point of interest when then approached with an srv. :-S
I think the first is called Planetary Insertion Module for like 50cr
and the other one is Planetary Vehicule Hangar.
They finally fixed it, took them long enough. So here I am, streaming the game a billion hours after everyone has seen everything.

I'm surprised you are not a 7 year old boy.
Is this a hilarious meme now? Some kind of No Man's Sky comparison?
The Elite series hasn't changed much since 1984. Buy goods in one station, sell them for a profit in another station, upgrade existing ship or buy a new one. You can also shoot shit for money.
no, i never played it before, literally just didnt know what you did
I think it is not working yet. Is not a problem that Frontier can solve themselves as is some incompatibility between some feature of the latest versions of the Oculus SDK and the shaders that they use in Dx11, or something like that If I recall correctly.
I think there is some old version of the SDK that still works.
Oculus doesn't seem to be very stressed about solving the issue in a timely manner, even when Frontier is offering to help to solve it as quick as possible...
AFAIK Oculus software and third party relations are a mess, constantly doing changes that break compatibility and not offering solutions to stuff like this
Some really weird things being talked about in that previous post regarding VR, most of which are untrue.Sorry didn't see this immediately, that's a shame. Elite has very little value to me without VR compatibility. Hopefully it picks up Vive support later on, I'll get back in when that happens.
What's the list of Synthesis? And what they do basically? (If you want)
Isn't there a scanner or something? Check in the controls, I'm sure there is such a ''tool'' that the SRVs use.
EH eh eh... when in doubt.... shoot it with Lazers?
Anybody reset their save?
