Enemies that ruin the game for you

This guy

is pissing me the F off right now

Dude, just use the pause glitch.

So probably close to a year or more after beating it on Normal, I decided to go back and try Bayonetta on Hard. Took me a little while to get back into the groove, but after a chapter or two I started feeling pretty competent in my skills. Now, I'm not the best at Bayonetta combat, I still die once or twice or three times per chapter, but I'm not a chump either. I have a handle on dodging, countering, all the good stuff. It's challenging, but still fun.

And then these fuckers come along in Chapter 8:

Grace_and_Glory.jpg

And not the normal fire and lightning ones either, no, the stupidly difficult advanced ones that don't allow you to activate Witch Time. They're insanely fast, and combos rarely stagger them. Oh, and it's not just one, it's THREE at a time so even if you successfully get a hit or two off, you're likely fucked because one just did an attack off-camera that's going to hit you. Oh, and that's not bad enough? You're also dealing with constant cars barreling at you that will hit you if the camera isn't focused in the right direction.

After about a half-hour of doing nearly no damage to any of them, while they kill me over and over again, I just shut the game off and am completely soured on the overall experience. I love Bayonetta, don't get me wrong, but this one enemy has completely ruined the game for me, and it's likely I won't touch it on Hard ever again after tonight.

So what enemies in games piss you off to the point that the game no longer is fun anymore?

How in the world are you going to beat Non Stop Infinite Climax if you're relying so much on Witch Time? Gracious and Glorious were, well, glorious to fight. They're a boss fight in a regular enemy package and they push your mastery of dodge offset to the limit. Fantastic enemies.

That being said, the colour coded enemies in the new DmC are as many others put it, awful. They completely ruin the flow of gameplay and all the higher difficulties.

The Three Headed Dogs in God of War 3. There's one point where you have to verse three of them at once. After dying for the 20th time on Hard, I threw my controller.

Fuck that part. Fuck it to hell. That entire bit was stupid. It also had those annoying Ram-like enemies which made it unnecessarily worse.

Enemies that you think you can kill so you waste useful ammo, to see you could do nothing to them to begin with and they just flee after a while.

That's the kind of enemy that pisses me off.

Urgh why didn't B get a PC version so i could just boot it up right now

The colour-coded enemies really piss me off. So do the super armour enemies but apparently you can trivialise them pretty easily

The thing that immediately jumps to mind are the mutant monster things in Far Cry.

Geth Stalkers, Mass Effect. In a game with shit combat, the last thing it needed was these idiots bouncing around. Maybe it's better on PC where you don't have to fight the sticks to target them. The final boss of the game has the same animations as this, but with a gajillion hit points, making it the single worst fight in the whole series.

This surprises me. These guys are one or two shot kills at best. Also in five completions of ME1 I have never actually been hit by the final boss once. He doesn't live long enough to do anything. Maybe I play overpowered classes.

were you playing new game+? Honestly once you have the best spectre weapons that game losses its challenge on most difficulty levels.

And yeah the combat was shit. Still love the game though

Yes, nothing gives me trouble in Mega Man games like those jerks.
But their pattern is the exact same every time. Once you've seen them traverse the screen once, you've literally seen everything that they do and when they do it.

Always thought they were among the easiest bosses in the series.

I don't think I've ever been killed by one of them, they're irritating because half the time when you've shifted the crosshairs over them they jump to some other pillar. The 360 version has slow ass aiming and so its a source of frustration whenever they show up. The final boss is easy to defeat, but takes a substantial amount of time to grind his health down. The fight is the total opposite of fun, you just dodge side to side and hold down the trigger for five minutes. Terrible boss fight.

I hate enemies that take too long to die.

I prefer enemies who can actually kill me but they die fast. That's why I love Ninja Gaiden and don't like so much playing Scott Pilgrim.

The shield-armed monsters in Resident Evil: Revelations were pretty lame and I sighed every time I had to take them on.

Promethean Knights in Halo 4 are awful bullet sponges with terrible hit reactions that can teleport anywhere with little to know forecasting. They're the worst enemy in Halo by a long shot.

Not as bad as underwater garbage
Never had issues with land enemies. As long as I'm not handicapped by the level and have access to my arsenal.

They get easy when you realize that they only jump between specific spots. Target one and it jumps away? Don't move your aim, just wait, it'll jump right back into the line of fire.

I think this even works with the final boss, but I was too busy dodging rockets to take note of it.

Nah, I'd rather get 20 Geth Stalkers and Saren at the same time than the stupid mechs (Atlas?) that appear on almost every mission in ME3, and the Brutes and Banshees due to their 1-hit-KO attack that ruins the Vanguard's Charge+Nova combo.

While not the entire game, Metropolis Zone is ruined by its bullshit badniks, my god.
But it more than makes up for it with the best music in the whole franchise. And the level design is pretty cool, if confusing.

But I agree that the grasshoppers are completely annoying.

Oh god yes. Probably the most annoying enemies I've ever found.

I'd also add the Raaks from Borderlands: useless, weak, but always available to fuck everything up and distract from actual enemies. And they come in groups too, just because one wasn't enough. I wouldn't say that they completely ruined BL for me, but they sure were a pain in the ass.

Most of the bosses in Diablo 3, could not take them seriously when they're constantly on the world PA system detailing their every move and playing power ranger villain with me.

Here are some.

The first one always gets me, I like bullet bills themselves, but I dislike having to play the levels with them. The hand when it snatches you can be quite bothersome, bloopers in Mario 3 are unforgiving at times, the Star..well yeah. And Boss Bass is always a menace due to it's hit 1 ko (or 1 hit swallow).
I'll give you bloopers and Boss Bass. The rest? Not so much.

lol well damn, i didn't have that problem at all. maybe you just weren't that good at the game? the shooting mechanics were fine imo.

the flood

That right there. Horrible, horrible, horrible. It literally ruined Halo for me. I didn't have an XBOX so I rented one simply to play Halo. After I was done with them in the Library I was so frustrated and anrgy I only finished the game out of obligation and haven't touched a Halo game since. Only the fetishes in Act 3 of Diablo 2 gave me this much grief. but these I could mostly avoid.

These fuckers from Medal of Honor: Airborne

I was having a fantastic time with the game, and then those idiots turned up.

Playing a melee in Dragon's Dogma the Harpy drive me nuts. I avoid them all the time, since they are always in the exact same spots lol..

Shit that pisses me off nowadays is the Uber of the Uber version of the enemy

Oh Shit!, a Bigger enemy 1.5 times size of regular enemies, takes50% less damage, deals 50% more damage to the player, harder to kill

But wait... there's more...

Oh Shit!, a Bigger enemy of the 1.5 times bigger enemy, roughly 2.5 times the size of regular enemies

Seriously?

Even Uncharted 3 went into this territory and it pissed me off

Some games can pass it off, it was like the hot thing for the last 2 years and counting

Almost every other game had an iteration of it

Promethean Knights on Halo 4's Legendary difficulty, especially the assholes who use Binary Rifles that kill you with one hit. So not fun.

I'll go ahead and say all Prometheans. What made them more difficult however were trying to use their guns against them as they aren't that effective.

Also asshole art directors who create enemies that blend into the environments

Is there no communication going on?

Yes lets create a dark, purple version of a monster against a dark purple castle enviornment, what could go wrong?

Regenerators from Dead Space. Especially the ending of 2, and chapter 5-6 of 3.

It was actually kinda scary in the first game, since there was only just one, and it stalked you through the entire game. It felt like a major accomplishment when you finally kill it. In the sequels they just spam him everywhere.

I don't know, something about it trips me up cognitively.

Not that I feel a vivid urge to defend Mass Effect, generally speaking, but do you realize you're talking about a game where you can stop the time and aim without any need to rush, right?

Crawling Shadows from Deadly Premonition. Great game, but these mother fuckers took the weakest element of the game- the combat sections, and made them 100x more tedious and loathsome. I gave up on 100%ing the game because of them.

First thought was about annoying little imps, flying things, invisible mobs and everything underwater. Then some enemies that have no place in the game (mutants in FarCry, walkers in Silent Storm, Yetis in UC2 etc) and finally invincible enemies that can't be killed. But none of those really ruin the game more then enemies that suddenly require some ridiculous QTE or they regenerate to full health and prevent all progression in game.

God of War is the prime example how to ruin game with mandatory QTEs; you can't win many battles if you don't manage to go thru multiple QTEs. The counter example of this is the Ninja Gaiden 2: after beating an enemy/boss to their knees, we have an option to finish them gloriously with single push of a button and see cool execution animation or just keep hitting them some more and they will drop dead. So much better, then trying to focus at the same time on the QTE symbols that might pop up and to the 'cool animation' that is happening behind them.

Banshees in Mass Effect 3. I wasn't paying attention to the cut scene where they are introduced. I remember hearing the shriek and dropping my controller.

Scary as shit.
