Enemies you feel sorry for killing?

what game is this?

I've never played it, but the character there looks like the guy from Secret of Mana.

Crossbreed Priscilla

This for me. I played with a failing DS3 pad that had a loose R2, when I got to here I wasn't going to do anything, but put my pad on the couch to get a drink and BAM shit hit the fan and I had to do it.

I still mourn her. It wasn't my fault.

Example from World of Warcraft.

In a Pandaria zone you are tasked with clearing out a camp of purported Raiders/Invaders and slay their chief. Okay, simple enough, this is an MMO. Kill things, collect rewards.

When you arrive at the camp you notice they're pumping oil out of the ground, a supply of energy. Kind of a weird activity for raiders, you'd think they were nomadic instead of industrious. There are kilns, furnaces and anvils about. This is an advanced civilization. Whatever, finish the quest, collect rewards.

Then you reach their chief and kill him. Not hard he's just a guy who makes fire appear on the ground. But when he dies:

He was trying to ensure the survival of his people and you wiped him and his tribe out (yeah they respawn it's an MMO). There are several of these types of quests in WoW that actively show you a glimpse of the alternative perspective just as you cut them down for a reward of gold and extremely disposable gear. You're supposed to feel bad, because in the name of conquest you've taken someone else's word for it and gone along with a solution of extermination rather than diplomacy. It's not that common that you're reminded of the sociopathy inherent in MMO quest grinds.

Sniper Wolf
The Boss
Vulcan Raven
Psycho Mantis, to name a few...

Seeing a pattern there? Metal Gear bosses are just too cool to kill off. Some of the best characters of any media in my opinion.

Sif

The Boss

...Need I say more? Poor Sif...

The Boss a bit less so as she essentially chose the path that led to hear death. Yes, she was being manipulated, but you get the feeling she'd have gladly given her life in the same way if it truly did mean saving her nation.

As for the folks saying Halfbreed Priscilla, there's a very easy way to avoid that heartbreak.... Stop killing her!

Nintendo has made it steadily more difficult over the years to kill a koopa troopa. I feel so sad for them when they try to run back to their shells in SM3DW :(

He just wanted to give you a kiss to show how much he cared..
fuck them

Killing the Owl Knight's owl in Symphony of the Night always made me feel bad.

Also,
Red/Tom Redwood
in Penumbra Overture. Didn't deserve any of what happened.

To everyone who said Sif from Dark Souls:

In the Oolacile DLC,
you travel back in time to when Artorias was corrupted by Manus. Artorias' arm got broken and he could no longer hold his magic shield, so he used it to shield Sif from the abyss. The player can save Sif, then fight alongside him in the fight against Manus.

When you complete that fight and return to the present before fighting Sif, the pre-fight cutscene shows him recognize the player, then reluctantly take up Artorias' sword

I always feel bad killing animals in games, wolves and dogs in particular.

Also, I'm usually kinda saddened after killing a well designed boss after they put up a good fight. Artorias comes to mind. I were happy to beat him, but at the same time I was like "I'm sorry I had to do this, I liked you :(."
I feel similarly about Black Knights, they are just so badass.

EDIT:

Thanks for reminding me about it man, I was almost recovered from my Sif trauma :(

Does everyone in Link's Awakening count? Not just enemies, tho...
and maybe not Marin, if you're one of those who believes she turns into a seagull in the best ending

This. Although I never experienced it in that order for myself. The DLC part and knowing the backstory was enough ;__;

These gentle herbivores from MHTri. Especially when they had young ones following them. I usually let the babies escape, but then I feel bad for leaving them without their parents.

But I need my well-done steaks!

The Demon mother in Metro Last Light... and let the mutated bear mother get eaten by watchmen..
Sif in Dark Souls and Mushroom Man children and parents

Animals in games like tomb raider and grunts in halo. Especially when the elite dies and they scream running for mercy.

There was a generic kobold enemy with a brief dialogue scene named Kobodis in the game Shining Soul 2. I felt kind of bad about defeating him, but at least he respawns every time you played that stage...

Yes. Absolutely terrible design, I really HATED killing this guy because of how useless it is other than generating a cheap laugh.

Then why did you kill him? Just let him live :/

In knights of the old republic the dark side makes you do some serious fucked up shit.
after saving zaalbar he is indebted to you and has a woodie life debt to you where he will follow you no matter what. During the final confrontation after keeping Bastia to the dark side you can force zeal bar to kill his one and only friend mission, a teenage girl mind you, and he shows incredible despair as he's bound by woodie tradition to kill his friend who doesn't even resist. Iirc you can also kill zaalbar after this as well as carth onasi who spent the entire game trying not to trust you only to finally let you in just in time for you to kill him (with his own gun no less if you want).

That game was fucked up if you chose the dark side.

Also mass effect 3
it was the first time I had to put the controller down and think about what I've done after mordin. Jesus Christ.....
