Enemies you feel sorry for killing?

Man... When Sif starts limping around and knocks himself down with the the weight of the sword, I almost lost it. so sad!

Vinland and Astraea are a close second.

The big creatures in Dragon's Dogma. They were such majestic creatures just chilling in their natural habitat like wildlife do. I actually genuinely felt sh*t killing them. Not to mention the Cyclops that would start moaning and weeping with their hands covering their faces.

During my exploration I came across this cyclops in some kind of settlement. He was in a fenced off enclosure with a giant table in it with his dinner on it being prepared. He wasn't armoured like they normally were. I just went in there and killed him. He didn't even try to fight back, just wailing and moaning the whole time. Man, I felt like a douche. :-(

Dragon's Dogma was the only game to make me feeling genuinely uneasy about killing these "monsters".

Another vote for Waddle Dees here, especially the yarn variety that tries to tackle Kirby and just falls flat on its face.

In the first Witcher there was a quest called "The Dogcatcher of Vizima" which requires you to bring Dog Tallow to the gravedigger. It was a side quest and completely optional but you basically have to go around killing stray dogs which are located around Vizima and have absolutely no business with anyone and never attack you.
I did it once and it was the first time I felt really shitty for doing something in a game, they kept running away and refused to fight me :'( They kept making squealing noises as I stabbed them till they died :(

Later someone told me you can find Dog Tallow in certain containers throughout the game as well... fuck me.

Those poor little goombas and shy guys. When those little koopas come out of their shell in their undies gets me every time.

But especially those b-bombs. Hate seeing those cute little buggers explode after stomping on them, ugh.

In regards to Dark Souls, I actually felt a little sad when you return to the Undead Asylum
and you find and fight Oscar, who is now hollowed.

Not an enemy, but I shot a turtle in AC4 Black Flag. Intentionally I thought I could craft something out of it. Turns out you couldn't. My GF was shocked and upset I killed it, felt bad afterwards. Lol

Galapagos tortoises in Far Cry 3. Especially after fending off genuinely dangerous wildlife, it felt so needless and cruel to kill these lumbering things. And yet I did.

I had the same moment, I felt terrible :lol

You’re in a desert walking along in the sand when all of the sudden you look down, and you see a tortoise, it’s crawling toward you. You reach down, you flip the tortoise over on its back. The tortoise lays on its back, its belly baking in the hot sun, beating its legs trying to turn itself over, but it can’t, not without your help. But you’re not helping. Why is that?

I love turtles, but it's just a game.

Any Colossus, you truly appreciate how beautiful and precious they are when on the verge of death. Such a sad game.

On Dark Souls I restrained killing anything that didn't attack me, I really feel sorry when I accidentally land on top of a hollow in New Londo and I'm forced to kill him.

Recently on Dark Souls 2, reaching
Rhoy's Resting Place
I noticed the healer wouldn't attack me, only heal others and herself. I restrained from killing her and she followed me shyly after killing her friends. This was the first time I noticed she was undead as I was and that I was the one trespassing on her home land. After summoning another player he immediately killed her, and I felt really sorry both for her and for how cruel human nature is.

Shadow Company in MW2. Made me uncomfortable fighting them because I assumed they were just normal American soldiers who didn't realize the general had gone off the deep end. I tried to get through as much as possible by shooting them in the legs and such whenever I could.

Maiden Astraea and Garl Vinland.

Every time I see a Demon Souls player saying this I cringe immensely. Why?

She is not innocent in any regard. She is lying in the most vile, corrupted and literally poisoned part of Boletaria, surrounded by monsters that worship her. Her soul is of a pureblood demon and she is cultivating a demonic cult.

Like most faith-related characters in the Souls games she is corrupted and manipulative and uses her religion and beliefs as a farce to accomplish selfish goals. This is a constant in every Souls game.

The Last Giant - he was just left to decay the last of his race and you kill him. He even rips his own arm off to try and survive.

Titanfall grunts. They can't aim and die so easily. If not by pilots then they get killed by Spectres. They're just so helpless.

Then one of them gets a lucky shot and kills me...

Having just replayed FF7, this fight comes to mind.

Dyne was the only one with the foresight to reject Shinra but ends up losing his home and wife to them anyway. Goes on murderous rampages, eventually finds out his daughter is still alive but wants to die anyway due to guilt. In fact, wants his former best friend to essentially kill him. Horribly depressing fight.

I'm going to sidestep my many first choices from NieR, and instead go for this guy:

Whacka from the Paper Mario games. He's super friendly and upbeat, and has no interest in harming you. I'm not even sure if he's an enemy, but our hero Mario gets rewarded for beating the everliving crap out of him with hammers. If you hit him, he drops really strong healing items which can also be sold for a lot of money. He also gets brain damage from the assault, which makes him forget what you do to him. The games also tell you they are highly endangered species. If you hit them too much, they disappear forever. :(

I'm sure I'm not the first to think or say it, but can we please, please be done with the 'it's just a game' comments in threads like these. It's like people feel the need to remind total strangers they have a solid grip on reality. We get it tough guy.

Not really "enemies".

But every NPC in the dark souls games before starting NG+. I actually like most of them.

Definitely Sif. Heartbreaking.

I love how some people are posting a spoilerific pic or name, then putting the title in spoiler tags. You're doing it wrong.

There was a big enemy on the ship in tomb raider towards the end of the game where when e died you saw a glimpse of a small stuffed bunny rabbit tied to his belt loop.

Made me sad because either he was being taken advantage of by his "leader" and maybe he had a child's mentality and his size was the only reason he was of any use or since all those bad guys were stranded on the island that was his kids toy that the child gave to him as he left onto his journey and it was his only momento.

Either way, I felt bad digging a pick axe into his skull and pulling.

You can kinda see it here
