Looks like UE3. Looks like ass.

HOW THE FUCK DID I MISS THIS? Looks absolutely incredible and just shot up to the top of my most-anticipated games.

god damn

During my demo, Ninja Theory continually impressed upon me how seriously the development team was taking storytelling. The group tapped Alex Garland, the writer of 28 Days Later and Sunshine to pen the tale. Andy Serkis, known for his work as Gollum in The Lord of the Rings films, will do the motion capture for Monkey. The team is hoping to meld these talents and the story directly into the game, ensuring that it flows more smoothly than most videogames that alternate between story and gameplay in distinct chunks.

hell fucking yes

Everything looks pretty and hopefully it has a stable framerate. The main character looks ridiculous and I can't get passed that. No shoes. No shirt. No service. I think I'll pass unless something I read tells me to rethink my decision.

I'm currently playing through Heavenly Sword currently. First time. I do feel that the level of ambition is right but I do feel that the game fails in certain regards. It takes some nice leaps forward but for every nice thing it does it also does another with painful mediocrity. I think the most painfully obvious thing they missed was the genre they're developing for requires alot of trial and dying and having unskippable lengthy cutscenes that takes ages to load before every bossfight was the most alarming designflaw.

Hopefully they've learned their lesson, it certainaly looks that way. I like the whole motion-capture & script push toward movies as it certainly increases the production values. And this looks very slick. Having Jin Kazuma and Nariko joining forces in a bright post-apocalypic future doesn't sound like a bad idea. Hopefully they'll deliver something extra. Regardless of metascore I'll be picking this up just to see how they're doing. :)

I have a feeling this will be a good game, and I hope for all the best for Ninja Theory, but man, the look of this just screams 'default UE3'. Not even colors can hide it. I don't know what is it about that engine, but unless someone sits down and rewrites the whole lighting and renderer portion of it (like what they did for Mirror's Edge) everything made with it looks... this way.

Don't know what it is, but I hate the look, the concept art looks amazing but the in game stuff is incosistent, some parts it looks awesome with the colors and other part looks like some generic UE3 shit.

Environments look cool but my god, that has to be some of the worst character designs I've ever seen.

OK I like the samll-boobed Nariko sister.

This game is being directed by Gollum, that's funny.

However, I don't like the way Ninja Theory mix up eastern and western elements. For example Nariko had a lot of Asian element to her design just to look cool, and then she is being motion captured by a hugh white woman. What the fun!? I bet she has a lot of body hair she need to shave often too. I think the lead designer/boss of Ninja Theory don't understand Asian culture.

And this one is based in Legend of Monkey King? There is no fucking thing in these screenshots that offer any clue of the Monkey King. There is no woman is Monkey's story. And where is the fucking staff? I will be serious pissed off if they give a Chinese sounding name to that white dude.

My point is if they can't show me (in the design) they have read the book Journey to the West they shouldn't use the name to help sell their shit.

I don't find a plan to appeal to different audiences surprising, unreasonable, culturally presumptuous, or borderline offensive. Each to their own.

EDIT - In any case, the world is, to a large and increasing degree, a mix-up of Eastern and Western elements and people. To conceive of worlds in which this cultural mixing is not the case or does not occur tends only to draw criticism from another angle; see, for instance, the bollocking Jeunet got for his supposedly de-Africanised Paris.

I like the look of the game. I would really dig a PC release, but I guess platforms where not announced, beside the 360?

I like the way it looks, I just hope the characters won't be walking caricatures like in Heavenly Sword (talking about characterization, not visual design). Cautiously optimistic.

And yes, it does look like UE3, but there's nothing wrong with that. It's a great engine if utilized properly.

Xbox 360 and PS3.

I agree that it looks kinda like a colorful Unreal Tournament 3.

That's not a bad thing in my book. I love the environments in UT3, and I always wished they could have been used for more than a multiplayer shooter map.

First two pics look like they ripped them from Uncharted 2 multiplayer or something. Not really feeling this at all though, art seems all over the place in terms of characters, local and enemies.

I wish Oprah and Chris Rock and other people could get together and put some money on a game about real slaves fighting against enslavers.

The art style, color palette and lighting are beautiful, but like so many other posters I'm not sold on the character designs. They seem at once generic and weirdly cobbled together, as though the artists plucked features from their reference folders at random. The motley product of a custom character generator is what comes to mind. Such a pity. Otherwise the graphics are downright refreshing.

The game is also being directed by Andy Serkis, who also does the motion capture for Monkey and helps with script writing.

Obviously they've learned nothing from the last game... oh well.

Why all the hate for UE3? Aren't Borderlands and Batman Arkham Asylum (among others) using that engine as well?
UE3 engine is excellent. Any haters are uninformed fools.
