Entering next-gen, is anyone considering the change between the Playstation and Xbox?

I'll likely be switching to PS4 for launch myself, but of course my opinion could completely change by E3!
No amount of games at E3 will make me purchase a console designed around live TV and anti-consumer practices.

No thanks. MS showed their hand and even if they change their tune - the idea and ability to implement bullshit practices at any moment will be looming like a dark cloud over everyone's heads. They will never stop trying to fuck the gamer, IMO. Writing is on the wall.

Right now it's about 99% certain I'll switch from Xbox to PS4 next Gen. Halo was the only Xbox exclusive I had much interest in, and between all the PS3 exclusives I missed this Gen and upcoming PS4 stuff I'm sure there'll be enough to make me not miss it.

Actually a thought that came to mind: if PS4 does similar anti-used crap afterall... BUT the system can work indefinitely without a connection, AND Sony makes it clear they want to put in as much BC as possible here (I'd assume just getting PS1/2 classics working on PS4) and want to avoid this break in the future, I might be more willing to accept PS4 doing similar crap. I'd still probably be PC first, but at least we wouldn't have constant dialing home and an attitude of "Ha ha, BC! Who even wants it?"

I have all current systems and 650+ games for them. I bought all systems at launch last time.

Xbone is not getting my money at launch. Fix your system, MS. Sony has a chance if they show me a legitimate BC program or kick it up a notch with +. I was holding off on upgrading my PC but I am thinking I'll build my first gaming PC.

If MS wants to take a step in the right direction after all this mess from yesterday, they will drop the service fee for Gold subscriptions and allow everyone to become gold members for free, or at the very least for 360 this E3.

I don't care if they make a crapload of money from live subscriptions, from the rate of their blunders I guarantee their subscription install base will decrease over time, not increase.

Gold never seemed a service worth paying for, and was more forced confinement into paying for online access.

And no I wouldn't have considered a Xbone unless they had dropped the fee for online multiplayer gameplay.

I'll get a PS4 when it hits $300 eventually and I primarily played between PC and PSP until I picked up a PS3 in 2011.

Right now next gen is looking a whole lot like this gen (if not slightly worse).

I'm gonna keep playing my Wii U - maybe get a PS4 if something comes out for it that I can't get on my PS360.

Microsoft lost me long before yesterday, the 360 was my main console from launch up until around 2011 when they decided to focus on Kinect, i always ownd both consoles but my Xbox was my go to console for multiplatform and online gaming, my PS3 was only used for Sny games basically. But the las couple of years that changed when MS was basically Kinect crap with Gears and Halo on the side. I only own a PS3 now and i don't plan on selli g it anytime, i'm getting a PS4 at launch and i'm skupping the One unless MS makes some drastic changes to their current strategy.

Got a PS3 as a main console and a 360 for indies and exclusives,

So this gen I'll skip XB1. Indies will be on Sony side, JRPG wont go exclusive on MS and most of non-kinect exclusives will have a Sony alternative. Also, I got PSPlus and a Vita (so even if PS3 games are not BC, I'll keep it for Vita games), and I'll have crossplay by system.

Also, i got a good PC.

This is exactly what im doing

The ps4 has moved into my main console choice along with my purchases of multiplatform games, xbox one is now just going to be for exclusives just like my ps3 did this gen

Roles have now switched

Reasonings are the not just from the drm, kinect, anti consumerism and all that other bad stuff from yesterday, but also from the confirmed 8gb ddr3 vs 5 and heavily rumored underpowered xbox gpu card 1.2 tf vs ps4 1.8, also have never tried ps+

If the specs are true multiplat n Exclusive titles are going to benifit greatly and they will be a nice seperation in quality 2 years out

PS4 might be my main console for multiplatform games as well. I actually don't mind some of the features of the XB1 [and I don't hate Kinect] so I'll still probably get both. As much as I'm disappointed in MS for weakening the sauce the XB1 is still no WiiU. I pretty much gave up on Nintendo after the Gamecube.

Not a fan of what I've seen from Xbox One so far. But I don't base my entire decision on hardware alone, so I'll have to see what games they will bring.

360 has always been my main console though.

"The Playstation 3 was forged anew by American engineers, and on its motherboard was soldered a CPU of eight Jaguar cores set between the Radeon GPU and the 8GB of GDDR5, and about them were many chips and capacitors; for Mark Cerny was going to war upon the marches of Microsoft. Very bright was that console when it was made whole again; the light of the sun shone redly on its matte finish, and the light of the moon shone cold, and its hardware was fast, sensible, and easy to program for. And Cerny gave it a new name and called it Playstation 4, Flame of the West."

...AHEM! Not personally invested enough to buy either of the new consoles on day one, though I'm glad to see Sony making some good decisions for once.

I have had the 360 since launch and it has been my primary console. After seeing the conference I am out. I have been a gamer for 20+ years and it doesn't seem like they are targeting me.

I don't want a system to control my tv or Skype with people, I just want to play games. As busy as I am as a father and husband I just want to turn it on and play. I don't want to enter codes to play or have to make sure I am connected to the Internet just to enjoy a game.

Not really. I had PS3 and 360 for most of the gen (favored the PS3). Only bought a Wii within the last year or so.

I'll be doing PS4+WiiU, and getting the Xbox One some time down the road.

Too early to say. I have both but am 90% Xbox360 now. Depends on system features and multi-plat game performance.

As far as I'm concerned playing off a disc is last-gen, so I'm also waiting to see how they implement their digital marketplace strategies.

I'm in no rush to buy either this year. I have more games now than I'll ever be able to realistically play.

PS4 is looking more attractive, though.

I won't make up my mind for about a year, as I don't plan to pick up a next gen system until some time in 2014. But right now I'm leaning toward the PS4 on the basis of what has been announced.

That could change, as we know relatively little, so I'm keeping an open mind.

Xbox and Xbox 360 owner for the past two gens.

Too early to say. Though I switch back to Sony.

As of now, PS4 seems a lot more attractive as an option. Will be my second switch in a row. I was practically a Sony fanboy in the PS2 days. I loved Halo, but barely used my Xbox for anything else. Then with this gen I rarely touched my PS3 and played most games on 360.

Need to see more on both consoles and some of their games, but yeah, PS4 looks promising.

I'm a little confused by what you mean by switch?

If I own a PS3 or Xbox360, no mater which system I choose, PS4 or Xbox One would be me switching.

Either way you are starting from scratch as none of the games are compatible with the new systems and most if not all accessories are incompatible.

I'll eventually get both. I haven't decided which one I'll go with at launch (assuming they launch about the same time). It really depends on the launch titles.

PS4 looks to be the better system but none of the games I have seen look so amazing that they would sway me that way (not to say that they haven't shown some promising games).

Waiting till E3 to really judge either system because in the end the only thing that matters is the games.

Edit: Currently I have both 360 and PS3 but I barely use my PS3.

I think its almost certain I will buy Xbox One late in the generation because of some of the games I want to play, I just don't feel comfortable supporting some of their anti-consumer practices. The same for PS4 if Sony followed Microsoft footsteps. As it is now, PS4 and Wii U will be bought around a year after release.

I'm buying both, but it appears, at this moment, that the PS4 might be my "go to".

This Gen, my go to is far and away the 360.

I'll need to wait for E3 though. Most of the negative aspects of the One don't technically affect me short term, so there's a chance the One will still be my go to.

But the more I think about the long term collectors aspect, my mind shifts to the PS4. But Sony could still surprise us too.

Woah, you are a prime example of the damage that Microsoft has inflicted upon its core gamers in a day - making a decision like that must be hard, but I don't blame you.

I've had my Gamertag for over 6 years and 75,000 Gamerscore as well. Unless something drastically changes at E3, I'm making the switch to PS4.

I also have a PS3 and a Wii, but the 360 has been my primary console for sure.

Since I do have both consoles(PS360) I'm don't consider it "switching" but I doubt I'll be onboard the XBO train. I don't care how much more or less powerful it is next to PS4, but I refuse to go another generation paying for XBL. That's not even counting all the new weird policies they are adopting this coming gen. While some are holding their breaths for things to change (paid membership), I highly doubt, as this business model has been profitable for MS.

This gen, the bulk of my core gaming was done in this order:
X360 >>> PS3>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Wii

Looks like I'll be welcoming Nintendo back with wide open arms next gen. PS4 will be there, but not sure in what capacity yet. No room for XBO this time, unless MS pulls a complete u-turn on their policies.

i'm going PS4 this time around. the only reason i got a 360 is because it was much cheaper. were it not for 599 USD i'd have a PS3. i had PS2 and PS1.

People may be leaning to one or the other, but E3 will give us the complete breakdown of these consoles and their games. Ultimately, I feel I'll have owned both but as to which I get first, I have no idea yet

I've had my fat PS3 for years now.. But since I got my 360 a few years back I've loved it more. PS3 seems barren when I turn it on, 360, yea there's ads, but it seems more alive. I will go with the XBOX again next generation. I think Sony, despite their push to developers, is going to blow it in the West again.

This is an interesting opinion. May I ask why you find the 360 more alive compared to the ps3? This is an honest question, I myself am mainly a 360 guy, but I've been making advances to Steam...at least the controller supported games.

There's no shortage of us that's for sure. I'm 6 years, 92K achievement points. All good will is gone due to 1 terrible policy. And I have been a 360 only household for most of this gen (sold my Wiis and my PS3 quite a while ago).

Because:

  • I don't watch cable tv
  • I use PS3media server (which should get a PS4 version down the line)
  • PS4 will never again receive an inferior console port at the least
  • I have a PC
  • I have an iPad

I'll be getting the PS4 unless Sony screws up monumentally in months to come.

I was originally going to get them all but I cannot fathom having a Kinect required to be on at all times so that's a deal breaker for me.

All Sony has to for me right now is act like Luigi and do absolutely nothing as far as the other consoles are concerned.

There were quite a few but I'm curious for you guys with high achievement points, which is it?

Treating retail discs as a carrier for game code instead of a license to play the game is what has done it for me. All previous generations if I had a disc I knew I could play the game on said disc. They've gone and changed that and I am not accepting it. I don't do it often but what gives them the right to say I can't lend a game to a buddy. You wanna erode my consumer rights then fine I'm out.

Kinect being a requirement really screams big brother shit, people hate being forced with unnecessary shit that dont make the games better.

I bought 360 at launch and PS3 in launch window. I avoided Wii like the plague.
Mostly played 360. (Probably 20x more than PS3, conservatively)
I'm only buying PS4.

I was WiiPS360 last gen as well, this will be different. I'll stick to one console hopefully with PC. I want to go PS4, but franchises are real close for me.... Halo, Gears Of War, Crackdown vs. Uncharted, Infamous, Anything Naughty Dog......

It comes down to E3 for me. I don't purchase used games or generally sell them, so I don't give two shits about that meltdown. Feature set wise, along with specs Sony clearly leads it for me. But it comes down to games.

I have a PS3 and 360. I bought most multiplat games on 360 this generation and have far more 360 games than PS3 games. I've lost interest in Microsoft's first party IP for the time being though.

For now I'll stick with PC and Wii U. If PS4 and Xbone continue on their current trajectory I may dump MS and get a PS4, though probably not at launch. I will likely wait a year or two.

PS3 owner here... and there's no way at all that i'll be changing sides, and i kid you not, even if someone handed me an Xbox One as a present... i would take it... and sell it ASAP, no possible game they may announce at E3 will make me put up with their barbaric strategy.

So PS4 it is for me... and you didn't mention it but i'll get a Wii U at some point after the good games (Mario 3D) hit the system.

So far, I think I am switching from 360 to PS4, especially after yesterdays reveal. That could change though. The only exclusive IP I will really, really miss is Gears, but I feel kind of exhausted after 4 games in one gen.

I may switch to Sony next gen. Will depend somewhat on what friends and family do. Also price.

I have time, so I'll see how that things shake out in the first year or two before jumping in.

Already transitioned from Xbox to Playstation in disgust at how bad of a deal XBL Gold is compared to PlayStation Plus. Will probably build a new PC before buying a new gen console: I can transfer my Steam, GOG. Humble and Desura games to my new computer, which I can't do with a PS4. And hey, I won't have to change my plans too much if Sony cocks up.

Nothing at launch TBH, my PC has been treating me fine and will continue to do so if they keep releasing cross generational stuff for a while. When I do finally get one (unless Sony totally fumbles the ball at E3), I'll be getting a PS4, and then a Wii U sometime after that. Unlike this gen with getting a PS3 mainly as a Blu-Ray player late in the cycle, I see no reason at all right now to get an XBONE. If Sony fucks it up too, I'll just get a Wii U and upgrade my computer, either way works for me.
