Entwined Announced For PS4, Now Available

Just played through the main game. Beautiful. If a llamasoft bonus level went through a thatgamecompany stage in its life, it would look like this.

But anyone else getting really annying stuttering, though? At first it was slight, by the last day it was 5 second+ pauses that really killed the rhythm and added extra difficulty, destroying the beauty of the whole :/ Was recording, but doubt that should affect anything. Still, it was and is special.

This will no doubt grace ps+ one day, but go buy it now. The main game is an experience and the challenge is there if you get off on one-more-try business.

Yeah, I've had slight stuttering as well, but mostly at the beginning of the level where it hasn't been too much of a problem, but occasionally mid-level as well, which totally ruins the flow. Doesn't happen too often, though.

Breezed through the game in one sitting. It's quite a relaxing experience, what with the ambient music and beautiful fractal graphics style but I definitely enjoyed the play-through and challenge mode should keep me coming back for a while.

I finished this in one sitting after the 2AM conference last night. I reckon it was about 90 minutes from start to end, but I loved it. Well worth it. Definitely see the similarities to Flower, especially at the Entwined segments at the end of levels.

Found a review from Hardcore Gamer

It’s easy to see why Sony chose to give Entwined air-time during its conference, as it is absolutely exceptional. This is one of those games that players will go to time and time again due to its extensive replay value. Entwined has the potential to cheer up the heartbroken, enlighten the lonely, and reinvigorate the jaded. Its incredibly touching metaphor-based story brings tears to one’s eyes, while its gameplay is engaging enough to completely stand on its own. The new contender in the race for the title of Flagship PlayStation 4 Game, Entwined validates Sony’s commitment to both creativity and the indie movement. Don’t be surprised to see this small, yet emotionally giant, title competing against the big boys for Game of the Year 2014

Its a sweet little game (if short and a tad buggy).

I think the buzz of being able to play it right away was almost worth it alone.

Just beat the story mode and came away mighty impressed. I hope Sony cultivates this studio into something great, because I think the potential is definitely there.

This game looks beautiful, but it seems a little too simple and short to be worth the asking price. Will wait for it to show up on PS+.

I'm not really a fan of controlling different characters with each analog stick, always ends up looking ungraceful on screen and gives me a bit of a headache over time (and not the good puzzle-y kind). Willing to deal with it for games that are superlative in other categories though. Does controlling Entwined feel more like a twin stick shooter or the rub your belly-pat your head sensation of a game like Brothers in practice?

The former. For the most part the controls feel really intuitive, although there was one level later on that threw me for a loop and it took a while to wrap my head around the quick movements on alternate sticks the level required.

This dude is championing the game so much, he makes it sounds like the next Journey. Will wait on more reviews before I bite though.

I wouldn't go as far as that reviewer, I enjoyed the gameplay and the art style, but the story, as such as it is, fell flat and didn't ever hit that emotional connection like Flower or Journey did, personally. Also, the end-of-level flying sections he raved about, while pretty to look at, felt tacked on to me.

I haven't played the game yet, so maybe this is far better than everything has led me to believe. But I chuckled at this metacritic excerpt:

Hardcore gamer magazine is full of shit. While short and repetitive it also drew no emotion from me at all, not even close to journey. Think im done with this game now. After just an hour and a half. Levels are Un failable you just keep going till you eventually pass. Stutters if you fail the fusion section and stutters at the start of levels. It's extremely basic. I'd wait I'll it goes in a sale or something if your slightly intrigued. Def not worth 6 quid odd. Will have forgotten about it by next week. Music's quite calming and thats about it. 5/10 using the whole scale.

but I'm not, unlike people who champion this terrible game -- the next journey, this aint. I already explained myself, look at above poster as well, but I would give it an even lower score

I wouldnt say its a terrible game, its a bad PS4 game if look at it as an exclusive yes and def didnt deserve time at sonys conference. Its a quick pick up and play game which would of fared better if it was touted as psvita exclusive instead of cross platform.

its a good first effort from a bunch of uni students and im sure they are thrilled its on a platform as big as it is but to be honest it wouldn't feel out of place on a cell phone and could easily work just as well.

The emotional story it is trying to tell is tosh though. Couldn't relate to it at all.
Unlike Journey where i went through the entire spectrum of emotions and it was fantastic.

This game would fare better if from now on people dont mention the Journey link as is in that hardcore gamer review. It is doing it no favours at all. After reading that i went in expecting something magnificent. Its like the game pissed on me instead.

Its a serviceable, basic arcade game. with a hook which is about as moving as a dead fish, there is no story apart from an intro. theres nothing connecting the timelines and the ending is just 4 words.

challenge mode is hard as fuck though so there is that if you like banging your head against a wall.

This game was just a joy to play. So relaxing. It amazes me that Sony keeps funding projects like this. Not only that the game gets announced and released at E3 against the din of gun fire and death knells. They have to know that very few people really appreciate titles like this.

That said I am very grateful they continue to put stuff like this out.

The game is great, but the real "next Journey" is Abzû, obviously, but that's not coming out until 2016. So much fail on that part, Sony.

I bought it tonight at the insistence of my girlfriend, who loves Journey, Flow and Flower. She's playing it right now and seems to really enjoy it.

I really enjoyed this. The music was awesome and relaxing and the visual style was neat. The love theme was really nice too if that's your sort of thing.

It was just a nice, relaxing, heartwarming hour or so.

There are way worse ways to spend 10 bucks and 60-ish minutes

What? I'm not shelling out $10 for anything that short.

IMO, the reason this game got conference time is pretty simple.

1. it's Sony's self-made 'quirky artsy game' of the event. They tend to have one of their own creations shown at each event.
2. It's an introduction to Pixelopus, a new Sony studio/team. It's baptism by air-time.
3. It's their 'RELEASED RIGHT NOW' title. It' their way to push the design of seeing whether or not announcing and releasing a game at the same time could work. You cannot just drop a game during E3 without creating excitement for the product in some sense, and the best way to do it... is during the press conference.

I thought it was a simple concept with stonkingly beautiful visuals and that's enough for me. I didn't feel the story aspect of it at all.

I really like this idea actually, I'll probs buy this this weekend :)

Does anyone else do thiswhen a game is loading or during cutescenes? (spin both sticks at the same time that is :p)

...or this that just me O.o

I must have been tired but lifetime 8 was kicking my butt.

Someone made a thread asking if the way Beyonce released an album suddenly and without any marketing on itunes could be a practical way to sell games too. I guess we'll see with this game.

I know I was ready to buy it right away after they showed it and said it was available because it looked awesome in the conference. I'm glad I waited and read the mixed impressions first.

I only played the first two lifetimes so far before I stopped because it was late and too hot in my room, but I liked what I played. Maybe the gameplay it's built on is a bit too simple to carry a full game, but it sure does sound nice and it looks very pretty on my projector setup. I don't regret buying it. With a Vita version in the cards, the purchase gets even better.

I kind of hope they do this every E3. It really throws a curve ball against the usual tease, preview, trailer, review, purchase cycle.

I'm tempted to buy it almost blindly, but I wont have time to play it until next week.

I enjoyed the game, but the 8th lifetime was frustratingly hard for me. Moving the dragons fast at a different pace was sometimes just too much.

I watched someone play the entirety of this yesterday and we both had the consensus that this was announced and revealed the way it was to get as many people to buy into the hype as possible. The game can be finished in under and hour and doesn't really have any solid message like the game it's compared to, Journey, so I can help but feel that $10 is too much for this. I like the visual style for the most part. It's really basic and maybe ties too hard at minimalism, but I dig it.

Any other thoughts on the game? Sad to see it generating so little discussion here. I thought the instant availability was clever, but now I'm starting to wonder if the game wouldn't have benefited from a little build-up with hands-on time at the show floor. Seems it's getting lost in the shuffle with everyone focused on E3.

I bought it so I'll try and return to post my thoughts later.

It's really not a very good game, and it's kind of buggy.

It's an interesting idea to drop a game unannounced at E3, but it feels like it was rushed and it's just not ready.

I finished the story mode today, and liked its simplistic yet thrilling gameplay, especially when the speed increases, but the sections between the levels were totally unnecessary. The challenge mode seems quite hard. I haven't been able to unlock the second level yet. To my understanding, you need to get 180 points to unlock the next one, and I've only got 114 so far.

EDIT:

I didn't notice any bugs, when I played the story mode through.

It's ok. Feels like a combination of Rez and Flower, but doesn't live up to either inspiration. Maybe not worth $10, but it doesn't feel like a wasted purchase either.
