Epic Rap Battles of History (Season Five)

Really interesting use of the Doctor change of actors ... bu yeah, expect more... maybe because i'm a HUGE fan of both characters

That's kind of a staple of the series. Literally none of the battles were ideas that the two made themselves.

I assume the first one wasn't (Lennon vs. O'Reilly). Still, not every character should have a rap battle. Obama vs. Romney was a great idea because of the coming election, but Doc Brown isn't really a good character for this.

It's probably just the implementation. If they could make Stephen Hawking have an awesome rap battle, they can do anything.

They should really stop taking their suggestions from Youtube comments sections.

I think that part is fine...

Perhaps they just make them too fast? Or just some lend themselves to more creativity.

I liked the Dr. Who dying and a new version popping up, and Marty jumping in. But the actual battle was tame.

Not their best one, but Watsky as the 2nd Doctor made it up to me.

Yeah, definitely the best part.

This is one of the weakest overall, IMO, which is sad because I love Doctor Who. But that being said, I've only watched it once, and most of these take a few times before I really start to love them. Like the Gates/Jobs one

Almost always the rap battles with good beats end up being good. This one didn't have a good beat.

The only good part was when EpicLloyd came in as Marty.

Actually, ERB started with a proposition video and suggestions for the first rap battle. You can see at the end of the video that someone specifically suggests Lennon vs. O'Reilly.

The biggest threat to the quality of these videos I'd say is the popularity of any particular suggestion. There are quite a few trends amongst commenters that are purely based off of similarities in pop culture characters, which probably wouldn't make for a good battle (for example, I see Dr. House vs. Dr. Cox a LOT), whereas some of the less popular, more clever ideas have made some really great battles (Mr. T vs. Mr. Rogers). At the same time, however, some popular ideas make for great battles (Gates vs. Jobs).

Overall, there's not much they could do to improve the system for choosing the contestants for the next battle. The commenters do sometimes provide good ideas, and all it needs is a spark in Lloyd's or Peter's head to come up with some really good lines.

I do agree that Doc Brown was a boring rapper, though.

Just because the commenters are providing the ideas doesn't mean that they're straitjacketed by them. There's thousands and thousands of suggestions. They just find the good ones or the ones they would do anyway.

It's the same way that TV shows or the presidential debates take questions from the audience or from viewers. Since there are so many questions being asked they can just pick the ones that they would ask or want to ask and then can say "hey these aren't our questions. they're real questions from real people" even though for all practical purposes that isn't true.

The best line bar none...

The best line for me goes to Berserk Shakespeare

Dr Seuss VS Shakespeare said:
I'm switching up my style like the Beatles with my pieces
Each is such a wonder with a plethora of features
You're pathetically predictable
You think your new book might include a trisyllabic meter and some ghetto Muppet creatures
The Bard is in the building
It's a castle I'm a boss
I bet I'm Parliament
I'm positive, I'm killing it
I'm iller than the plague I never caught or cholera
A baller baller on some cricket bowler business while you're sitting in the bleachers

But yeah, Einstein has the best lyrics, but Jobs has the best overall music
