Equifax Data Breach could affect 143 million customers

You got to be kidding me. It took me over ten years to get my credit score to a good place, repairing the damage I've made in my youth that I'm not rejected on credit applications increase anymore and this happens.

You had one job Equifax! This can literally ruin someone's livelihood.

I froze Equifax and Experian credit accounts. I'll probably do the same for TransUnion. I don't need to open any more credit at the moment.

I monitor my reports frequently and already had fraud alerts on, and get notifications of new activity. Like I opened a credit card last month and got various emails and notifications from the different services already monitoring it.

I don't know that I need to freeze... I guess I'll just dispute anything right away should something happen to pop up.

Apparently you can now opt-out of the arbitration clause...

Put in a 90 day fraud alert request with Equifax. That should be enough protection, right? Or I should take their offer for their Trust ID Premier service.

I hope Equifax gets back to me soon about getting my PIN number after freezing my credit with them. I'm sure it's going to be a hassle to get it, but I have to have it. What a bunch of idiots, their pin unlike the other 2, loads in a separate PDF image below after you sign up and it failed to load for me.

I might be hosed.

I put a freeze on Equifax, but it wouldn't load the PDF image to print and see my pin number, so now I have no pin number. Can't find who to call or e-mail.

Try this first: 800-846-5279.

Otherwise you would have to request one in writing which is the last option you want to take.

If your SSN is compromised, it's unlikely that you'll suddenly be secure after 90 days.

I feel like the OP should be updated on how to check/and freeze your credit, fuck this shit show.

Includes lists of steps, links to agency web pages, and agency phone numbers.

Absolutely. The fucking CFO? He would know IMMEDIATELY.

Yeah, that makes zero sense.

Hah yup. Especially as they were also apparently not regularly scheduled sales.

Hopefully this brings reckoning to our current credit system. Its time to put these fucks out of business.

Anyway to check to see if your information was part of the leak?
This should probably be in the OP.

Consider this before you use that site though.

So the money paid to freeze credit is going to Equifax? So Equifax is being rewarded money by those freezing for fucking up? Forgive my ignorance on the subject but I am not sure I get this.

THANK YOU!!!

Just got off the phone with them, just had to answer some questions on my credit report and they are mailing me my pin number in the mail in 5-10 business days :)

Just an FYI incase anyone else has my problem do the above!

Do any credit cards include a perk of free real time monitoring that alerts you if someone tries to open accounts? I think I've gotten emails about monitoring from my capital one card?

Least they could do is offer to freeze for free. This has all been handled terribly. This is like potentially more costly than someone stealing all the gold in fort knox. Equifax security was obviously handled by these two guys:

Yeah, I don't really see the point in freezing if you're already monitoring your credit and aren't expecting to make any big changes in the near future.

And I don't want to give money to the people who just screwed everyone over.

I know there's a debate to freeze or not, but I feel a lot safer having them frozen, I'm ok with paying to temp. un-freeze them when needed, not that I plan on having to do that anytime soon. I am NOT good at monitoring them so this is a good solution for me.

son of a bitch. I literally just checked and they said I was affected, so I signed up through this site. Fuck.

Last year someone got a hold of my info and managed to get a Discover card in my name, but it's been completely taken care of, no issue with my credit, and I have had a credit freeze placed at all three agencies since then. If I understand correctly, a credit freeze at each agency is permanent unless I remove it, yes? I live in California.

Just wondering if I should start freaking out or if I'll be OK because of the freezes.

How much does monitoring your credit really help? Let's say they went to a payday loan place and took at a loan in my name/SSN. I get an email a while later about my new loan. The money is gone. Aren't I going to be fighting to clear this from my record forever?

I just checked my FICO score with Citibank. I was at 842+ from the beginning of this year until my score suddenly dropped on July 25th.

:(

If it said you were already fucked, then any information that could be taken from that site is information they already had. To everyone else, welcome to the club I guess?

Curious about this as well. As I'm thinking about freezing my credit

You credit score will still change, the only thing it does is stop thieves from taking out new lines of credit. It prevents them, where credit monitoring will notify you once they've already done it. Then you'd have to go through the super fun process of fixing it.

The only thing you lose is time, and the record certainly isn't forever. As soon as the reporter acknowledges it's fraudulent, it will be gone.

So I need to look into this because my wife and I have good credit (770-790 depending on who's reporting it). I really don't want to fuck myself.

However, we're traveling overseas for 2 weeks in a few weeks. So I'm trying to figure out what all this "freeze" nonsense is about and how to do that, but also how to make sure that we can use our Southwest card while we're in Europe to accrue those points.

Fuck Equifax man. I hope they get deleted. This kind of breach legit ruins people.
