Eternal Sonata for PS3 in North America

Definitely full price, hence 60$.

The only thing that keeps me from buying is the open question whether the PS3 version will support the original Japanese voices or not.
IMO the English voices are atrocious and considering that this game will have much dialog it would go from "day 1" to a "do not want" for me, if the option is missing.

EDIT: So can anybody tell me if the 360 demo had the voice option?

good question...I liked the Japanese voices from the demo. But I would find it pretty weird if the ps3 version wouldn't support both...

I asked about it before and the Xbox version had dual audio, so I don't see why the PS3 one wouldn't.

I dunno it's BandaiNamco maybe they got the great idea to offer the Japanese voice tracks as DLC :lol

Shut up don't give them ideas.
It's Scamco we're talking about, the company that gives you the opportunity to buy new armors and shields for Soul Calibur IV which are already on the disc. :lol

Oh I certainly am. TOV and SO4 look really good. I wish they'll get a port someday too. LO I was really interested in, untill I saw my brother play it. I noticed the loading times and the graphics aren't as good as I thought. But then again, I only saw a small part (dark mansion where you fight the hero's wife) which wasn't the best part according to him. It is the most FF like, which is a good thing. So I'm not sure about it. I don't have much to say about BD since I didn't follow it much. It's because I'm not fond of Dragon Quest/Ball like style and I'm not sure what the majority think of it. I heard positive and negative views about it. I was expecting much from IU. If I would buy an xbox 360, it would be for it and mistwalker games. But reviews and fans are kind of 'meh' about it. So I'm kind of disappointed about this one.

BTW why did you ask such question out of nowhere?

Why not just buy a 360 for the RPGs? No need to wait for ports to arrive and the console is pretty cheap these days. It just stroke me a bit odd that you love RPGs and don't have a 360 yet. Just wanted to ask what you think about the 360 RPG offerings since you didn't seem to own the console. :)

Speaking of ES, I've seen more ES hate than BD and LO. I've planned to clear ES 360 and LO this year and I loved BD.

Edit: I'm sure that they have the JP soundtrack in the PS3 version. Why wouldn't they?

I don't mind the wait. I have more than enough consoles/handhelds to keep me busy (ps3, xbox, gamecube, ds, psp etc.). Now I wouldn't get an xbox 360 just for LO and BD. I'm kind of having a wait and see attitude. TGS is coming, I'm hoping for more RPGs on the xbox 360 to see if the xbox 360 is worth it. And the wii is tempting me more with the latest announcements...

Funny thing you mention this. Before ES got a port, I really wanted to buy an xbox 360 for it.

That is before I had a ps3.

You have to consider that a 360 still costs money even though it has gotten much cheaper and having a full blowout of games the next months doesn't make such decision in any way easier.

Also even though it's true that the 360 currently has the most JRPGs that doesn't mean those games push the right buttons to justify the investment.

Edit: There's no reason to not put it in, but there's also no reason to put it in. Anyway in all those years of console gaming I learned one thing: "Don't take anything as granted till you get a official confirmation".

Pretty much. I was just eager to know why the current and upcoming RPGs don't warrant a purchase of a 360 for a jRPG fan?

The life of a jRPG fan was pretty damn easy last generation: no need for other consoles than the PS2. Myself, I've always bought all the consoles that come out, since they're only means to play the games that come out. No need to wait for a port or announcement for console X, just buy the game when it comes out and enjoy.

I like JRPGs as well, but I always hold for the expanded version (if there is one), Director's Cut, International, ports, etc. Since they offer more materials and extra contents than the original version.

The only exception I can think of right now is FFXIII Versus.

Good points with the extended stuff.

Personally, I'm the opposite. When a game comes out, I want to play it then (even though I have a year-old backlogged games! :lol ).

Usually, I don't care about added content, since I'm usually done with a game after the main story.

Well I just like to get the most out of one game, complete sidequests and bonuses that each RPG offers; different approaches I guess.:D

I wish I had the time to go through all the extra stuff in RPGs these days. Now I'm just content when I play through all the interesting parts of the game and then move to the next.

just tried the demo.

I was really really looking forward to this port. But strangely, this game doesn't seem all that great once I actually played it. Mostly game play complaints, and some minor weirdness in design decisions.

I really love the art style and the quality of work, but the game play turned out to be a bit of a turn-off...

for example, can you heal party members using magic/skills while not in combat? are healing items the ONLY way?

can you take items out of the pouch and back into inventory? I accidentally filled my pouch and can't take anything back out.

is there a purpose to the town in the demo? no inns? no healing springs? anything?

why is it so easy to die in this game? 2 hits and Polka dies. Blocking doesn't reduce damage all that much either.

I think you've been spoiled by other games cause ES isn't like them. If you keep an open mind about how the developers wanted the game to be played, you'll find it more enjoyable.

no you don't use magic outside of battle.
yes you can take items out from inv, just press triangle.
all the compartments of a town are there, just not in the demo.
you're level 1 when you start the demo. the areas in the demo are a wee bit later in the game.

I liked the demo alot, the battle system was like Tales of games but not.. I didn't mind it at all, and when I got my hands on the english demo I was able to whizz my way through the game with ease (and beat the boss with relative ease)

I will be sure to pick this one up :)

Demo was great.

So can we have other playable characters int he full game, or are the three in there involved in the story the whole time?

That's part of the reason why ES is no longer a Day One purchase for me. It will have to wait...

I do like the environments, and if what I'm experiencing right now is "bad demo syndrome" then I wouldn't mind giving it a chance.

Is it a long game? I lack time to really sit down and play. What's the save system like? I really enjoy save-anywhere RPGs nowadays because of my lack of time. FFXII wasn't bad as save points were littered everywhere. I used to be okay with save systems like Tales series and older FF series, but I can't anymore. No time...

I potentially could be spoiled by other RPGs, but really, a game design decision has to be backed up with a logical reason. Not being able to use some sort of magic to heal my party members outside of battle, I expect an abundant supply of healing items to pick up, and purchase easily.

Just wanted to let you guys know that according to NB customer support, the PS3 version will also have Japanese voice-overs.

RPG Eternal Sonata Composes New PS3 Features Tomorrow

+ Posted by Stephanie Fernandez // Localization Producer at NAMCO BANDAI Games America Inc.

Hello, my name is Stephanie Fernandez and I worked as the Localization Producer on Eternal Sonata for the PLAYSTATION 3. Eternal Sonata will be shipping tomorrow, October 21st, and it will include new features and extras that can only be found on the PLAYSTATION 3 platform. In preparation for the game’s release, I wanted to share with you some of my thoughts and insights from working on the game and give you a few more details about the new exclusive content.

When I started working on Eternal Sonata for the PS3, I was pleased to find out there would be additional story material incorporated into the game that is unique to the platform. I had always felt there were some aspects of the story which might be a little too vague for anyone who didn’t have the advantage of the background knowledge that I had about the story. But now there are scenes that give the game player a little more insight; scenes that reveal a bit more general information about the concept behind the story and more specific details regarding character motivations.

Not that everything is spelled out point-by-point–you still have to figure things out for yourself–the player is at least given a few more clues as to what is going on. And the new scenes fit into the story extremely well. It almost seems as if they are parts of the story that have always been there, but you’re only just now getting the chance to see them. Also, some of the old scenes have been modified slightly, again, in order to add more depth to the story. From beginning to end, there is new exclusive material, and I think it will really add to people’s enjoyment of the game.

Of course, a good part of the new material involves the two new playable characters in the game, Serenade and Crescendo, who are only available on the PS3. It’s very exciting to finally have the chance to play these characters in the game. I have always thought that Crescendo and Serenade were intriguing characters and now we get to see them play an expanded role in the game. And they have some very useful abilities that can really be an asset in battle. There are also new items that can only be used by Crescendo and Serenade that make them even more valuable.

It was a lot of fun being present for the recording of the battle voices for Crescendo and Serenade because it was all new material for the characters. Unfortunately, since we weren’t able to see the characters fighting in the game before we recorded, we had to make some guesses about the way in which lines would be used in battle situations. Sometimes we got it right, but sometimes we didn’t. So, in the end, it was necessary to edit some lines slightly. But, overall, I think it came out sounding pretty good. And now we get to see a prince and princess fighting for what they believe in!

And there are lots of other new things to be found in the game that are exclusive to the PLAYSTATION 3. There are new quests that add even more excitement to the game, and new dungeons that are very nicely designed and a lot of fun to explore. The dungeon that can only be accessed on your second play-through of the game is especially challenging! And the new enemies and bosses found in the new dungeons will definitely test your battle skills. Also, both of the new dungeons include brand new music written by Motoi Sakuraba.

There are also three new Chopin compositions featured in the game, performed again by Stanislav Bunin. In addition, there are fun new costumes for Polka, Allegretto, and Beat, but you’ll have to find them first. They’re scattered throughout the game, so make sure you leave no stone unturned, and no treasure chest unopened! The game also offers some ending variations this time around.

All in all, there is quite a lot of new material to be found in the world of Eternal Sonata. So whether you’re visiting for the first time or making a return trip, I’m sure everyone will find something to enjoy on this unique journey into Frederic Chopin’s dream world.

Be sure to check out the Eternal Sonata demo currently available on the PlayStation Store, and don’t miss the full game when it ships tomorrow.

Ultimately there are like 12 different playable characters in the game.(including Crescendo and Serenade).

can't stop people from getting excited, but I give ye a final warning: game is definitely not worth it

I loved the demo. Why shouldn't I love the full game?

I played it on 360 and liked it. I'm definitely buying it on PS3. I thought the game was excellent personally. I think anyone who wants an RPG on PS3 (who has no 360) should buy it, but that's just me.

Also, both of the new dungeons include brand new music written by Motoi Sakuraba.
:lol :lol :lol

I'm convinced this hack just has a few hundred of the same-sounding tracks that he passes out for cheap for RPG developers that don't want their games to have memorable soundtracks. If they hadn't noted there was brand new music in the game, anybody who played both version probably wouldn't have even noticed.

Well, there was an option on the demo so we kinda figured as much :p

Well there was an option, but I've only seen french :P
Also I've seen too much disappointment(Disgaea, Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams, etc. PAL of course) so it's hard to be not skeptical.

Anyway day 1 for me since that issue has been cleared.

No chance it's getting trophies.

Well excuuuuuu~se me, princess!

But no, really. Sakuraba is amazing. I reccomend checking out his Star Ocean stuff.. and his Baten Kaitos stuff. The man is a progressive rock god!

The ending.

And 80% of the achievements on the 360 version. :lol

The PS3 version has new endings, so I'm guessing multiple play throughs would be necessary if you want to see them all. No Trophies, though.
