Etrian Odysesy V second trailer, ‘Herbalist’ class trailer
*************************************************************

Atlus has released the second official trailer and the “Herbalist” class trailer for Etrian Odyssey V: The End of the Long Myth.

The Herbalist is a back-row recovery specialist who uses various medicinal plants known as herbs. And they’re not only to heal wounds—they can also be used for poisonous attacks. Read about some of their skill types here.

Etrian Odyssey V is due out for 3DS in Japan on August 4.

Watch the trailers below.

From the looks of it, Herbalist applies status effects that also apply debuffs? After poison and blind, the mobs suffer from another debuff with the typical effect for like damage down/damage taken up. That'd make them quite a lot more valuable than the typical medic characters if they can do both in one turn. Wonder if the debuffs work even if the status don't apply, that'd make it so your status spells always do something, which is pretty nice.

I'm down with a medic class that applies debuffs as well as heal. I'm used to my medics being on the front line and acting as an attacker so this will be a nice change of pace.

Etrian Odyssey V details Master and Titles system, more character skills
****************************************************************************************

Atlus has released new Etrian Odyssey V: The End of the Long Myth information and screenshots, introducing the gameÂ’s Master and Titles system, and more character skills.

Get the information below.

■ Master and Titles

Within the council, a skillful adventurer who has cleared certain conditions is acknowledged as a “Master.” Adventurers who become Masters can learn “Master Skills,” which are high-level techniques within their class. There are two types of Master Skill trees, and players can freely select the option with the skills they want to learn. Your options in this instance are known as the “Two Titles.”

When becoming a Master in the case of the Fencer class, you can choose between “Phantom Swordsman” title, which specializes in obtaining evasion and speed skills (like “Phantom Sword Dance” and “Sharp Thrust”), or the “Thunderclap Swordsman,” which specializes in obtaining combo attack skills (like “Resonance” and “Chain Killer”).

Players can also edit the actual name of the title they choose.

I really want to get into one if these games, any tips for a novice?

I tried playing a bit of Etrian Odyssey 3 but found the game pretty brutal if you go in not knowing what to do.

I'm definitely interested in 5. Seems like a large improvement.

4 is easier to get into. There's a demo if you want to try it out. Try to start with a standard party, with a healer, a tank, and some DPS. Don't overextend, remember to carry Aridane Threads at all times, and always gather if possible for a steady stream of money.

has a western release been confirmed????

I'd need a PAL version to play this :O

Not yet, highly unlikely it's coming this year since it's not at E3. Also PAL, forget about it.

Well first, the community thread is pretty helpful for answering questions. Just googling answers works well enough too.

Can pick up EOIV when it's on sale, or EOU2(which is too recent for sales). I'd avoid EOU1 over these two. EOIV has more of the modern stuff like an overworld map and more complex classes, while EOU2 has the story mode and easier difficulty too.

There is a bit of a learning curve, but it's not so bad if you've played DRPGs before. Even if you're not super familiar with the genre, there's a lot of overlap with traditional turn based JRPGs.

Just a joke about Atlus's love for Europe. Seriously though there has been no announcement.

if that were true, that would be the ultimate backstabbing for EO fans in europe.

the trailer, main site and special edition are absolutely hypnotizing, I'd be extremely pissed if there's no EO this time in Europe.

look at this gorgeous videogame item:

shutupandtakemymoney.jpg!!

EDIT: I'll pre-order the hell out of that thing day 1 when it goes up on in amazon.de

Also on the class videos released today, anyone else feels confused about the point of Cestus? Is it a full bind class or do they just happen to have some skills that can proc binds like a few classes had before?

Maybe it's just because there's more classes than usual, but you have your usual front row, with Dragoon/Masurao/Fencer/Reaper which are very similar to the usual tank/samurai/landsknecht/dark hunter. But Cestus doesn't seem to have a niche, doesn't look like they're frontline healers like monks, and frontline binder sounds like a very very small niche. Seems a bit weird to me, I guess I'd need to see the full list of skills.

Etriyan odyssey 4 and Untold serie should have a demo available on the Eshop.
Etriyan Odyssey 4 is the most polished in term of gameplay but if you want some story then try Untold serie.

New interview http://www.4gamer.net/games/282/G028286/20160509005/

Nothing really new though except going into a bit more detail on Union Skills(there are 4 common union skills for all races available by default and then after that it's all race exclusive. Unlock 1 per 5 levels ending at level 20) and clarifying that there will not be a world map here like in 3 and 4. They want to 'go back to the classic feel' of the series as per fan request. Also don't remember if this is new or not but they clarify that the title you choose will also affect your stat growth at level up(so for example picking the evasion fencer will result in higher agility and luck upon level up while the attack one gets more strength and vitality). Also specifies that the title skill tree will have 10 skills available.

Good news to me since I wasn't really a fan of the world map stuff(though 4 was a lot less of a pain than 3's) but I know some people will be disappointed with that.

Gematsu posted a new article: Etrian Odyssey details Dragoon, Reaper, Warlock, Masurao, and HerbalistÂ’s Two Titles

So that's why they went to the trouble of making classless portraits of the races, they're used in game initially before becoming a registered guild.
It's also good to hear confirmation that you can change classes normally not available to that race. Also some info on what titles do to some of the classes, it's going to be a lot harder to plan out my party.

Future Etrian Odyssey releases just got a lot more uncertain for Europe
Source: http://personacentral.com/sega-atlus-independently-chooses-publishing-partners-europe/

To resume Sega just said to Atlus; "you're by yourself when it's for publishing in Europe"... and since NIS europe doesn't work anymore with Atlus... the futur looks grim for us European fan, imo.

I'm Hoping NOE pick it up, Atlus have been good to Nintendo so its the least they can do.

I really want that limited edition.

It says you can use the classless portraits in lieu of the class portraits for your characters, which is pretty neat. More character portrait options is always good.

I'm glad they confirmed class changes. I suspected that other races could become other classes at some point. Otherwise, what would the point of racials be? I'm wondering just how many more classes become available to races though.

There are no limits. It's any race for any class.

Though there are no special portraits outside of the default class/race combinations unfortunately(though understandably)

aren't we guaranteed at least a digital release on the Eshop??

I can see EOV skipping retail in Europe, unless Nintendo itself steps in and publishes but I can't imagine there being an EO game that will skip the west entirely and if it makes it to the NA store, I can't see it not being available in the EU/PAL store.

Sega Europe: "We're very interested in bringing Atlus games to UK"

Titles from Japanese games giant Atlus could be coming to Europe by way of Sega.

AtlusÂ’ releases were previously launched in the UK and Europe by NIS America. However, following the finalisation of SegaÂ’s purchase of Atlus, relations with NIS America have become strained and the two terminated their relationship in April.

This left many UK fans wondering how these titles – including eagerly-awaited upcoming JRPG Persona 5 – would be coming out in the region.

“We’re very interested in bringing all of the group’s Japanese content not just to the West, but to Europe in particular,” SVP of commercial publishing John Clark said.

“We are always trying to find a way. And that’s an on-going process. That’s something we are continually assessing and talking to and if there are really strong opportunities to support the Japanese content in Europe, we’ll do it.”

You can read more about Sega in this week's MCV.

So there was a livestream today (thought someone had made a thread... guess not?).

They showed the boxart (Yuji Himukai, of course!)

Also, they showed some footage with the Aeolis facilities (Guild, the Grand Market, JenettaÂ’s Inn, and the Twilight Pavillion), and a F.O.E. battle.

Since I recorded this to post on my website in the first place, thought I'd post it here too since it doesn't look like someone else recorded it (yet?).

Playlist: https://youtu.be/GIEofxFQidE?list=PL7dNZesklPc7riGlo4g5Wxje9Xh15wzzg

Like last time, it will most likely take ~2 weeks for the official recording to go live on YouTube... : /

I... think this is the first time we've had the ability to choose an elderly woman as a party member, and a badass falconer at that. They really are mixing things up a bit. If memory serves, though, that was the last of the class trailers? Seems like quite a fair bit of variety among the options present, what with the Title system letting you tweak around what a character's primary use is in the party.

There was an old man as a shogun in EOIII but yeah this is the first old woman. I hope they have ways to make it easy to create a new character and add it to the party, like EOIV, or all this variety will be there only for people that replay the game.

I mean up to the postgame.

Ehh I never consider postgame because by that time you can just reset and grind with the dragons to beat most of the content there. I have run into problems with parties starting good amd super fun but strugling in the mid game forcing me to reset or even retire, and thats because I went with weird compositions like front row alch no healer

just got a japanese N3DS (again...) and currently playing through EO2U...can't fuckin wait for EO5. Love those little improvements they did on the (already beautiful) UI.
