Eurogamer Expo, top 10 games.

Did somebody say AAA titles? Shooters gonna shoot. Must have been one shit expo if the millionth Call of Duty was the third best game on the show.

I didn't go this year, but in all previous years COD has had the biggest queues there.

ESO #4...

From what they've shown it was as generic as any other mmo out there... wtf

Yeah, this is the one that strikes me as really strange. Are people really that interested in it?! I'm sure it's a coincidence that EG did a really positive 180 write-up on it a couple of weeks ago.

The lack of TearAway, Olli Olli, Velocity 2x, OctoDad and Resogun saddens me

Yeah, although their absence isn't unexpected. They're all pretty niche and were probably played by about 2% as many people at the show as that top three.

Was Mario playable? I've heard nothing but praise!! This is one I'll be picking up.

Yep it's been playable at pretty much every show starting with E3. The problem is that they're pushing the multiplayer aspect. Many impressions I've read from the Eurogamer Expo was that multiplayer wasn't fun.

Aside from Second Son, maybe

Unfortunately that won't get the dudebros' attention like another online shooter will. For the time right before Titanfall comes out to right after, MS and EA will make sure all you hear everywhere you go in the world is Titanfall.

There's a story but it's within the multiplayer. Not sure if there's different objectives or short story elements built into multiplayer or what. Or if there's a larger storyline that coincides with multiplayer. But there is no single player campaign, but you can still play by yourself if you choose (bots).
Got it. Thanks. Need that single player to really engage me. Hmmm. Love mechs though.

What is next gen? Shooters being popular, or people complaining that shooters are popular?

Shooters being even more popular.

I'm not saying shooters are not good games by definition. It's just that they are with sports and racers the illustration of what gaming is becoming year after year. It's just another entertainment like hollywood movies or MTV's music.
We'll end up with visually impressive games with boring story, repetitive gameplay, paying added content, online passes, lots of goodies or pre order bonuses so the perceive value of the product can atrificially be leveled up etc. etc.

It's just my opinion and I'm not doing the elitist since I enjoy a lot of Hollywoof movies, a lot of MTV's music (I mean things that you can here everywhere) or having a little play session of games like Call Of Duty at friends' house. I'm just sad to see that with all the possibilities they go the easy way.

Indies were the best thing to happen this gen. They'll keep to deliver on PS4, Xbox One and Wii U that's for sure ! :)

By letting people play their game. The nerve of them.

I was just being a prick. I know he meant in terms of sales, whilst I was talking about the better game :p

Standby for Titanfall.

I'm tired of FPS so have not kept this on my radar. Is there a single player mode with a story in Titanfall?

No, it's online only. It has a lot of bots in there, but it's another of those games which is trying to blur the lines between SP and MP.

The lack of Mario tells me that it wasn't on the voting list or multiplayer Mario once again is total garbage.

That's not necessarily true, although I don't think Mario is primarily targetted at the kind of people who attend these events. It'll get played plenty, but not nearly as much as typical games on PS4 and Xbone.

Exclusive in terms of consoles... Or Microsoft exclusive. People don't have a problem saying Gears of War was exclusive even though there's a PC port. But for some reason they can't say Titanfall is an exclusive. I believe the second Titanfall will be multiplatform but right now they don't have time with their first game. They're trying to hit the ball out of the park.

Gears of War showed up on PC a year after its 360 release though, sold badly as I recally (I think it was heavily pirated) and the series never returned to PC after that. So while it wasn't a straight 360 exclusive, the situation was still very different to Titanfall which is launching on PC and two consoles simultaneously.

Aside from Second Son, maybe

I agree with Derrick here, sadly. I think Second Son looks like a much more interesting game, but it won't get as much attention as Destiny or Titanfall purely because of the genre it inhabits.

For those who just want to know the order:

10. Killzone: Shadow Fall
9. Forza Motorsport 5
8. Batman: Arkham Origins
7. Dark Souls 2
6. Beyond: Two Souls
5. Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag
4. The Elder Scrolls Online
3. Call of Duty: Ghosts
2. Battlefield 4
1. Game of the Show: Titanfall
The list would make a lot more sense like that.

- gorgeous nextgen shooter
- gorgeous nextgen racer
- sequel to a great game
- sequel to a great game
- likely a masterpiece, but not for everyone
- could be good, could be bad
- not sure people want this
- another Call of Duty
- another Battlefield, which is always less popular than COD
- looks extremely generic

That list is seriously depressing. With the eception of DS2, it's just AAAAAA sequels, with absolutely no surprise. There's nothing wrong with the games themselves, but it's so predictable... I could have found every game in that list without even looking (though I would've gotten the order wrong, with the exeption of TitanFall of course!).

That being said, I'm surprised Watch Dogs isn't in the Top 10... GTAV effect or what?

Yeah, the traversal stuff looks cool. Though I've played plenty of FPS games with jetpacks and the like before, and this feels like a logical extension of that.

I dunno, I don't want to sound too negative about it, as I genuinely think the game looks really great. I just find the fact that it's generally considered to be THE game for next-generation, and is hoovering up accolades and awards all over the place, to be a bit odd.

Some games just have to be played to be understood/believed.

Though it isn't on lists, it is a similar situation with Killer Instinct. If you are just going by limited details and a few old clips from E3, then it's a shit attempt at a nostalgia pop by a Z-tier developer. Everything changes dramatically when you are actually in front of a more current build, and are armed with little more information on what the developers are doing.

Unrelated note: People need to stop pulling out the "manufactured hype" card. It's the worst.

By letting people play their game. The nerve of them.

I was talking about a marketing blitz on a scale we haven't seen since Halo 3 probably. The kind where it makes everyone absolutely sick to death of the game by the time it comes out because they can't go anywhere or watch anything on TV without seeing it.

Killer Instinct and Titanfall were awesome, was expecting a COD clone for the latter, but it really was amazing.

Most awesome surprise of the whole show floor was the free pinball machines.

Biggest let down was that Watch Dogs wasn't even playable.

Don't have an issue with Titanfall being #1, but, I would say that CoD and Battlefield being right below it kind of undermines its hype somewhat.

It just shows that the vast majority of respondants are into that specific type of competitive online FPS experience so its hardly a tough sell. Bottom line is that its the exact same audience, so its not particularly meaningful.

I assume Destiny wasn't at the show/up for voting, because I'd suspect that would've been up there also...

Yawnsville.

ESO at #4 is way more ugh-inducing than Titanfall. Not even close, at least one of them looks fun and semi-innovative

My ability to tune out advertising must be stronger than yours. And no amount of marketing is going to make me hate something I'm looking forward to. I'm not hyped for the game because it looks great. I'm hyped for it because real, actual gamers played it and said it's the tits. Another big plus is that the overwhelming response was "It looks like CoD with mechs, but plays nothing at all like CoD". Pure hype.

I would be very surprised if they did that. I think it'll be quite small. MS aren't going to lose by Spring, and they have no long term investment in the franchise. Halo 5 will be insane though.

Wait, everyone at the expo actually could play (even theoretically) every game and thus this list has some "have you played XXX ?" credibility?

Ads don't matter to my enjoyment of a game. I just ignore them. And no one remembers the ads of game, unless they are good, after the game is out. "I really wanted to like Halo 3, but the ADS WERE SO PERVASIVE"

We need more Dead Rising 3 impressions in here. People coming in and only saying "Played it, day one" should be drawn and quartered.

Given my expo second hand experience, one has to wait 3-5hours to play a highly anticipated game. Is that different at the Eurogamer expo?
It depends on the game, to play Killzone was pretty bad, maybe 70/80mins, and TitanFall, and to try the Oculus Rift, but you could walk right up to a lot of games.

I'd be surprised if someone managed to play all those ten games in a day, but they could.

I always knew I wasn't a mainstream gamer, but that list is very depressing. The only ones I don't mind so much are Dark Souls 2 and Beyond to a degree.

We need the Middle Tier back

This list makes me lose respect for Eurogamer.

Top three all shooters?? What a bunch of mainstream gamers right there inside the Eurogamer office.

Edit: Oh public vote. Didn't know my fellow Brit gamers had such bad taste. Or are brainwashed easily.

top three expected..... good to see Beyond getting a great spot

Killzone just chugging along getting more and more acceptance
for me it'd probably be:

1 Helldivers
2 Titanfall
3 Tearaway
4 Luftrausers
5 Beyond: Two Souls
6 Hohokum
7 Octodad
8 rain
9 Frozen Endzone
10 Volume

But then I'm getting a bit bored of playing the same franchises year-in year-out.

...saying that, Arkham Origins would probably be on my list if I'd gotten around to playing it at the expo.
Helldivers was playable man I really want to try that game out

I really don't get ESO or CoD being there.

ESO was awful from what I played of it and as for CoD, every person I talked to there felt disappointed with it compared to previous iterations (this was from CoD fans).

I don't see how Killzone is any less generic than Titanfall.

They were all playable at Eurogamer...,.?

Yep, and they were fantastic!

This is a great list. Was LR playable on a PS3 or PC? I can't wait to play it.

Luftrausers was on PC for me - I think there was a Vita version playable too, but I didn't see it.

top three expected..... good to see Beyond getting a great spot

Helldivers yeah - it was awesome - really fucking good. I love how squishy all the players are & how chaotic it gets in co-op.
