Eurogamer Expo, top 10 games.

I'll buy Titanfall at #1, but BF and CoD at #2 and #3?

What the deuce? Are they really any different from last year's versions?

Terrible list.

The games that I left the show wanting to play more of where Killer Instinct, Tearaway, Beyond, and FFX HD. Shame only one of them made it in.

I was excited about ESO from the start and even thugh I was a little put off by the subscription fee, if the game comes out at a time when Im not playing anything else heavily, I probably would bite the bullet ( this is of course if its not panned horribly)

First-person shooters rounding out the top 3...? Disappointing.

Also, why is Dark Souls 2 so low on that list?!

Exclusive in terms of consoles... Or Microsoft exclusive. People don't have a problem saying Gears of War was exclusive even though there's a PC port. But for some reason they can't say Titanfall is an exclusive. I believe the second Titanfall will be multiplatform but right now they don't have time with their first game. They're trying to hit the ball out of the park.

When asked the devs wouldn't confirm that it is not a timed exclusive so most people think it is. There was never any question about Gears. titanfall is mp only so I'm not interested anyway.

Didn't get to play TitanFall but heard many talking about in a very positive way. Could be a system seller for MS, good for them. getting a bit bored of FPS' personally. I think Shadow Fall will be my last for a while.

I'm surprised that Killzone isn't higher.

Honestly it's looking like the best shooter at launch.

Call of Duty is extremely disappointing and surprisingly battlefield isn't looking so hot either; impressions from the beta aren't promising.

KZ, meanwhile, is the only real true next-gen shooter at launch, and they're doing a lot of cool things with the multiplayer including free DLC and the promise of 60 fps with 1080p AND next-gen visuals.

It's all subjective though, I agree I think it looks good and I will be buying however it doesn't have the pull of the mainstream like Call of Duty and Battlefield. Perhaps there were some who didn't it like how it played and prefer the gameplay of other titles that were at the show.

CoD just needs to be CoD at this point to get most to like it, same with Battlefield being Battlefield. I will say that it the new Battlefield online will like feel like a next-gen experience to console only gamers, 64 players baby. KZ does look like the only one built from the ground up for the power of the new consoles though. I still think of the fact that MS doesn't have an exclusive shooter at launch and am surprised. I'm guessing they were banking on Titanfall being ready by then, but it wasn't.

Maybe they felt they didn't need to compete with others launching at the sane time like Call of Duty and Battlefield, both ip sell very well

MS better change that poster!

112 awards now.

slightly embarrassing top 3 lock out for FPS's....says more about Eurogamer then the quality of the games imo.

It would be a pretty lame showpiece even if it was ready for launch anyway in the sense you and most people are discussing Killzone, since it's a cross-gen title and looks it. So far I'm seeing a game that looks like an inferior take on Tribes but with mecha (and more of Infinity Ward - now Respawn's -"delightful" balance-crushing and competitive multiplayer destroying perks), but if that's what does it for people, so be it. I just don't think visually it looks particularly nice outside of the framerate. I'd even classify it as sort of showing its age visually, the engine shows it seams. It's 60fps and ya know they're not even sure they're going to hit 1080p with those graphics. So either cross gen is really holding them back visually, they simply don't feel the need to invest further in visual spectacle or the systems themselves are holding them back. Which doesn't seem plausible since even Killzone multiplayer is a variable 60 with an incalculably superior technical prowess.

All this Titan Fall infatuation reminds me of the thread

http://www.neogaf.com/showthread.php?t=604841

It's just another COD shooter with jet packs and mechs. Don't see what's the big deal about it.

It's not though, it's fundamentally a much more agile, environmental experience. Which changes everything, at least as it relates to a Call of Duty comparison.

To me it actually seems to be a sort of distant offspring of Tribes, only inferior in most of the mechanics depth-wise. As far as I've seen! I haven't played it, so hold your horses from quoting Microsoft PR and the 100 awards they purchased off the dignity of the 'gaming press'.

What the game has though that is similar to CoD - as far as I've read - and that has destroyed every competitive multiplayer game it has touched since it has been popularized by Infinity Ward, is perks. Any FPS that uses them these days is pretty much a write-off for me, at least on the competitive end of things. I don't play games that reward shit players for time spent and bullshit chasing after challenges that are tangential to the actual objective of the map.

I don't actually value the opinion of anyone who queues up for hours for a few minutes play of any game, let alone generic shooters.

that's fucked up since that disqualifies almost everyone on GAF at some point, and it also is a lot of people's jobs on this forum to do just that. And also blindly rejecting "generic shooters" just because they're shooters may cause you to miss the boat when one is genuinely great or redefining the genre.

The only thing I'm not sure of is how exactly Titanfall is redefining the genre. It seems to me everything it is doing has been done before in FPS, albeit not with the same precise speed or weight or quite the same interaction with mechs or environment, but with a very similar design philosophy (re: the speed/agility/platforming mix in FPS is not really new, for example). The only thing is the combination of these elements together may be new, especially once you throw in Modern AAA game design's worst FPS idea with "perks."

But hey, I don't judge something for how innovative or new it is. If it's good, generic or not, it's good. Most people say it's good. I just prefer not to buy into manufactured hype and decide for myself, since many people continually praise Call of Duty, for example, but to me it has almost singlehandedly destroyed the competitive FPS multiplayer arena. So my mileage is obviously not going to be the same as many others.

why are people so hung up on understanding why Titanfall is hyped? I have no idea why people would wanna play KillZone when there are better shooters out there, but thats just my opinion and I dont try and question people's desire to play the game. People like titanfall, dont try and understand it. Just see it

So what is your actual point with this post? Informing us informed members of a gaming board of things we likely already know? Or perhaps pointing out that popular genres are in fact well represented in a poll sampling what was played and enjoyed most by convention goers?

That Abbie Heppe is actually voicing a character in Titanfall.

Kinda weird, but she seems pretty cool, and at any rate is exponentially better than Tameem's self-insert Donte.

Is "filler" a word that means "games keeping a struggling industry alive"?
You taking it seriously? Lol
I dont care much about most of the AAA games shown. I dont know much about indies so the relevant games to my tastes are those 2

Call of Duty and Battlefield in the top 3? Are you kidding?...

That's just depressing.

Elder Scrolls Online also looks like poo. Who made this list?

The woman that says "Prepare for Titanfall" sounds like Abbie.

As seriously as I take any post from someone that whines about a top 10 list because it isn't compromised mostly of games/music/movies/books that they personally like. In other words no, I didnt take it all that seriously. =)

Have you seen Killzone :P

heh. I know this. I haven't really enjoyed any Killzone game to date. I mean they're pretty considering the hardware, but there is something off about the way the gunplay feels to me and the linear nature of the levels that really turned me off. The lore of the universe was sort of neat, but not neat enough to get over the flow of this FPS. Just wasn't for me.

The reason I am keeping one eye open for Killzone: Shadow Fall despite my general dislike of the series is that it seems to be dropping most of the things that made me hesitant about the franchise in the first place. Don't like linear level design? Game is reported to have much more open levels with multiple ways to approach each objective, and you can approach some objectives in any order IIRC. Don't like the oppressively bleak nature of the art direction? The game is more colorful than most FPS out there now, whilst still having levels that retain that classic Killzone feel for the hardcore fans. Don't like perks destroying the balance? Well it has 'honors', but it's hardly close to as balance destroying in their approach. Don't like map packs splitting the userbase? Competitive multiplayer maps are free DLC. Don't like the sluggish nature of movement and gunplay? Killzone: ShadowFall is markedly more fast moving.

So far the track record says I should stay away, but the details are making me think I should at least give this one a plausible look.

We need more Dead Rising 3 impressions in here. People coming in and only saying "Played it, day one" should be drawn and quartered.

I'm presuming the demo at the Eurogamer Expo would be the same as the EB Expo. If that was the case it was pretty great. Loads of interiors and vehicles to drive around in and a few weapons to try out. It's hard to go into detail about it as the demo was basically just the guy planted into a sandbox for 10-15 minutes. There are no survivors or mission objectives. It's hard to tell the major changes from the previous entires due to this. It felt very much like the older games, just bigger, more zombies and more detail.

I played Titanfall. Personally I didn't see the big fuss of it. Story elements seemed tacked on at the beginning and the end (other maps might be different) while the inbetween stuff seemed to be another multiplayer shooter with a better movement system and mechs. To be fair, you really need to invext time in a shooter like this to get your head around it. It is great how basically everyone seemed to be guaranteed to use a Titan in every match. It seems pretty balanced in that way. Also it seems like everyone had at least one major "action hero" moment which might have made a big impression for a lot of gamers when they were voting. I preferred the slower paced Killzone personally, but that felt like a much safer game.

Mario was a lot of fun. I'm a bit sad it never made this list, it deserves to.

I don't even want them to be different just a bit better looking at least those games are fun to play. Halo tried to be different and they fucking broke it.

/Part of the problem... :(

Typical meh list with an atrocious top 3 based on my preferences. Dark Souls 2, KZ: Shadowfall, and Beyond Two Souls are the only games I'm getting from that list.

No Nintendo games either. :( Then again it usually takes a person actually playing the game for long periods of time to properly judge a game.

I think as these were demo's, games like titanfall and COD etc. do well in terms of impressions. You can't play a 10 minute spell of an RPG and expect to get any real value out of it. These games are built for casual 10-15 minute play times.

So I think people are reading to much into these impressions, same as with gaming sites, they can't seem to separate this fact. Will Titanfall over 8 hours become repetitive and leave you ultimately unfulfilled? Could be, but hard to tell.

I played Titanfall at PAX Prime and it was by far one of the best FPS experiences I have had in recent memory.

It doesn't shock me to see it rated #1.

I don't understand what's depressing about Titan fall being number 1. There are soo many people here who haven't played it yet just name it a generic shooter. Yet everyone that has played it has confirmed that it is awesome, I myself played it at eurogamer and it completely blew everything out of the water. It's just a ridiculously smooth, fun experience which makes you feel like a badass 24/7 and if anything it should be compared to a shooter version of mirrors edge which is what sets it apart. The depth in the game comes with your traversal ability. The best players won't be the ones with the quickest trigger finger but the ones with the smartest movement. Plus there is just something so ridiculously awesome about being able to call in titans which in themselves are a whole other style of gameplay.
