67% of 3DS sales are outside of Japan. You really believe that? Especially when the system is not selling much outside of Japan?
Both the DS and Wii had an expanded casual audience, and that improved sales of MK.
.*facepalm*
No it doesn't.
It suggests they're not fanboys of the mindless idiotic type, that will still buy it when it suits them. The Wii had Wii Sports and Zelda. The WiiU has NSMBU, ZombiU and Nintendoland.
While the WiiU's big launch games are good (I actually own a couple of them), they're no Zelda and Wii Sports.
I've observed Sony and Microsoft fanboys going out and buying shit up regardless. Look at how many PS3s sold at launch in the UK. That thing cost a fuckload and had almost literally zero games outside a pretty good shooter, yet it still sold more than the WiiU did.
Mario Kart 7 is 4.5 million in just over a year.

I would never say never especially for a handheld that has minimum 5 years left on it.Your point....its never going to sell above 12 million let alone 15 million or 20 million. Games with Mario sold so well on the Wii because for the casuals that bought the system that is the only gaming character they know. It will never happen again with the WiiU or 3DS guaranteed.
Reasoning :lolAt least I back up my posts with reasoning. If you have a better explanation for the huge bump in sales MK Wii received, that also takes into account the piss poor sales of Wii U despite having another of those 30 million selling Wii games at launch, I'd be glad to hear it.
PS3 sold much better than lots of launches, it should be the best European launch ever ( or second one, after PSP): it's more the demonstration of Sony's strength in the territory coming from the PS2.

Yes, competing devices bring me more pleasure at a much lower price. Buying a WiiU won't make any sense in my householdI don't get all those "I will never buy X" (X being Wii U, PS4, Xbox or whatever).
So you're already thinking of not buying something even without knowing what's coming to it?It makes no sense.
The narrative being spun by petulant "core" manchildren that the Wii U's struggles are Nintendo's "punishment" for the Wii's success, is endlessly hilarious.
These are the same people that whined incessantly when the Wii was succeeding. How dare Nintendo succeed in the face of their ridicule? How could they possibly outsell their favorite console when they themselves don't support it? Nintendo was supposed to be doomed! Now they're the ones that claim that "Nintendo is stealing our games!" when Bayonetta 2 is announced, but are reveling in Nintendo's struggle selling the Wii U. "This is what you get for not aiming every effort at me and me alone," they think. "Third parties are abandoning you, and rightfully so!"
In their minds, Nintendo made a huge mistake, going from the apparently bountiful and secure hardcore support and third-party games of the GameCube era, to the "flash in a pan" fad of 100million+ sales of the Wii. It's a crazy look back on a history that never was, but is being altered to fit their desired narrative: that how you serve the hardcore first and foremost makes or breaks you.
It's such a narcissistic, warped view of reality that you can't help but laugh.
For the rest of us, yeah, Nintendo has made a ton of huge blunders with the Wii U, and it's selling miserably. Is the price too high? Does the software library need to improve more before people are willing to jump in? Is competition from other tech gadgets proving to eat more of the gaming industry's marketshare than perhaps first thought? Can Nintendo support the console through the lean few months ahead? Is the marketing too confusing for consumers who think it's a Wii upgrade?
These are the kinds of questions to be asking and debating. Not "lolololol Nintendo is getting their comeuppance for the Wii, they should've never left the halcyon days of the GameCube!" Because that's absurd.
Should be around 7.000.000 now.Oh, and Mario Kart 7 was at 5.24 million sales as of March 2012. Now it should be around what, 7 million? 8?
Excellent post. The level of arrogance and narcissism in this thread is staggering.

Oh give me a fucking break with this crap. Those extra 20 million sales were due to casuals who wanted the driving app for their new motion toy. They won't be returning for MK U. They won't even have a Wii U.
After all these years, some still don't get how Nintendo sales work. Mario Kart 7 will sell as much in 2015 as it does now, and will still chart from time to time in 2018.Your point....its never going to sell above 12 million let alone 15 million or 20 million. Phones perhaps, but I don't know a single person with a contracted iPad. Can you even put a Wifi only iPad on contract? Most people buy their iPhones and iPads with a mobile contract (paying it off in 2 years).
You're correct about the iPad, my post was a bit rushed.Phones perhaps, but I don't know a single person with a contracted iPad. Can you even put a Wifi only iPad on contract?
5.24M WW as of March 2012.Two things I assumed when I made that statement..the guy said MK 7 sold 4.5 million in its first year is correct and WW right?
If not then I can see it possibly doing that well. I should of mentioned that before I made the statement.

I understand it has legs but it will not reach the same LTD. I also call BS on MK selling the same amount 3 years after launch and 5 years after launch. Got any data to back that up?
Also as said by other people Mario ha sonly been so successful during the Wii and DS generations. What about GC or N64 era?
WII Mario Kart Wii 32.440.000
NDS Mario Kart DS 22.570.000
N64 Mario Kart 64 9.870.000
SNES Super Mario Kart 8.760.000
3DS Mario Kart 7 ~ 7.000.000
GCN Mario Kart: Double Dash!! 6.580.000
GBA Mario Kart: Super Circuit 5.530.000

3 years after launch in 2011, Nintendo said MK Wii sold 4,91 millions. You are right, maybe not as much as during the first year. But I think you get my point now.I also call BS on MK selling the same amount 3 years after launch and 5 years after launch. Got any data to back that up?

And that was despite rampant piracy. I think we can easily add few millions MK fans to DS and Wii figures.
Ahh region locking, the best excuse to... "flash it"
They sold 4,91M in 2011.Source? That sounds like complete bullshit. MK Wii didn't sell 25 million in the last two years, after the Wii sales had all but died.
They sold 4,91M in 2011.

I got my info regarding its first year from wiki, would be interesting to see current figuresIt shipped 5.240.000 units as of March 2012.
Should be >6.000.000 until now.
Maybe we get an update in two days. (Edit: Probably)

You're using that incorrectly.
I wish I got that memo. I've been missing out.You know how everyone's like "you need to put down the games and go outside"? I guess the British did...and started fucking.
No, I'm not. People act as though every action Nintendo should do should revolve around them and them alone. That is narcissism.
Noun
Excessive or erotic interest in oneself and one's physical appearance.
Extreme selfishness, with a grandiose view of one's own talents and a craving for admiration.
Narcissistic personality disorder is a mental disorder in which people have an inflated sense of their own importance and a deep need for admiration.
People in this thread aren't craving admiration from Nintendo. They're craving games. The word you want is egotistical. Egotistical people believe the world revolves around them and their needs.
You should have been on the GameCube General board over at IGN, madness at times. And the insanity when the Wii specs were leaked was amazing as well.Saddest thing is that I certainly didn't see any of those defenders back in the GCN days, when Nintendo was supposed to be still about these ,,core'' people (with some of their weakest, rushed entries in their major franchises, lol). The GCN was shat on constantly, but now it's Nintendos holy grail before some kind of imaginary betrayal all of a sudden.
