I think Nintendo's new system would need to either be powerful enough to allow for ports of third-party games or be so cheap that people would buy it as a second console. I cannot imagine that an expensive console would sell well if it does not play all the major games that most gamers want to play.
As a consequence, given that NX' design does not sound like it will be able to handle big third-party games, Nintendo really needs to make it cheap. $200 sounds like the maximum they could get away with. And even that would be more than many people are willing to spend on a secondary gaming system.
So I won't expect any expensive hardware. The screen and the quality of the materials will probably be in the budget range. I also cannot imagine that they'd have enough budget left for gimmicks like a second GPU in the base station, large amounts of memory, and so on.
At the end of the day, we still have to consider that Nintendo's first party output is now flowing to one device that's crazy. And then consider all the usual Japanese third party suspects who are on Nintendo handhelds. The lineup could be killer.
