Even if God appeared and proved everything, would you worship him?

I don't believe in worship of anything, so no.

...But then he's holding a gun to my head, so probably yes. It's an offer you couldn't refuse.

Which god would that be that would appear? Or I can just pick it? Some viking god would be awesome. :3

No of course it won't be a viking god, they are too fucking cool. The universe would never allow something cool like that. It'll probably be some lame Gandalf wannabe looking motherfucker.

Would Xenu be counted as god? I would rolf so much. Or other space god, I want my own space battleshit and fight evil aliens. :( Vorlons or Ancients I'm ready to command forces of good against the evil anytime now. :D ( I don't think these count as god neither, even tho I think both are immortals and have huge amount of power and shit. Now I'm depressed. )

Edit: Forgot we could have warhammer 40k gods, but I would probably shit myself so badly if they turned out to be real. :D

I always liked the Vorlons. So kewl.

Hey, Gandalf can look very distinguished when he wants to. The guy knows how to put together an outfit as long as it's monochrome.

What comic is that?
Lucifer, the Vertigo book written by Mike Carey. It's very good.

I would not worship any god that forces an "eternal" hell on disbelievers. I do not believe that that is truly possible (the eternal part, a temporal one is okay, in a non-corporeal setting).

So nope, I would not.

He moved galaxies and travelled through time, and people don't believe him? Honestly, they deserve hell...

If the god appeared in the flesh, it would not require belief, just acknowledgement. Besides, why is this god fellow such a douchebag? Worship me or you're going to hell? That's straight out of the Evil Overlord handbook.

So OP, you give us a choice of worshipping a guy or burning on hell until the end of time itself... Its not like there is a real choice here

Nah, fuck that. I only worship people that I want to, don't care about hell. It's probably far more interesting than heaven anyway.

Not really a choice is it.

A god like that can go and get fucked. I'd end up in hell plotting a means of overthrowing the tyrant.

I'd team up with the devil.

I never asked for being created, so I'm not going to worship the deity that created life to serve as his personal playground.

"O mankind! It is you who stand in need of Allah ,but Allah is Rich (Free of all wants and needs), Worthy of All Praise." (Qur'an, 35:15)

Allah also makes it clear in the Quran that if everyone on the earth disbelieved it would not harm him one bit, similarly if everyone believed and worshipped him devoutly it would not increase him one bit, he is completely free of need.
The benefit in worshipping Him, is for the worshipper and not vice versa.

I think part of the confusion that many people today have is that they are not aware of what the exact nature of the relationship between God and man. Did Allah/God create us and just leave us be, or is it deeper than that?
well Allah in the quran says he is our Rab, typically this is translated to Lord, but it is deeper than that. This has to do with the richness of the arabic language compared to the english language
"In Arabic the word Rabb has three meanings: (i) Lord and Master; (ii) Sustainer, Provider, Supporter, Nourisher and Guardian, and (iii) Sovereign, Ruler, He Who controls and directs. God is the Rabb of the universe in all three meanings of the term."

Interesting.

I would defy him obviously. No Gods or Kings! ONLY MAN!! Big fan of Ayn Rand/Ken Levine.

Unless... the god was Princess Celestia. I would worship her... worship her hard...
I mean devoutly, worship her devoutly....

No, I wouldn't. Supposing he exists, his inaction to a lot of people's suffering when he clearly has the power to change things is evil. I could never follow such an entity.
Hahahaha, looks like we got a badass over here. Nobody will have the guts to go against God, no one with a functioning brain at least.

Back off. I'd rather you not say people I loved deserve to suffer for eternity.

We're talking about an hypothetical scenario where God proved himself... As it stands, I'm going to hell myself.

If the god appeared in the flesh, it would not require belief, just acknowledgement. Besides, why is this god fellow such a douchebag? Worship me or you're going to hell? That's straight out of the Evil Overlord handbook.

Maybe he has self esteem issues?

Depends on the God. The only one I can see getting behind (not really worshipping but siding with) is one tha reveals that all of existence as we know it is simply a simulation and everyone who suffered and died are now able to live any life they want as Gods in their own universe of their own design, an opportunity everyone can choose after death.

Something weird like that where we're all eventually Gods acting underneath a primary God in some kind of incomprehensible experiment. As long as everyone is happy in the end I can dig it.

Maybe god should've created therapists instead of worshippers to feed his ego. This current mess just leaves a lot of people unhappy about the state of things.

All the power of the universe and an ego to match...

He's going to make you an offer you can't refuse.

Nah, I'd think humans were having a shared schizophrenic episode before I believe the perfect being would do a bunch of magic trick mumbo jumbo to prove him/her/itself.

Not until I ask

You want us to obey and yet give us free will? why?

Its like having a wife. You can't control her or make her love you and want to be with you, nor would you want to. (Most people) You want her to be with you out of her freewill and love to you. The bible says God is a selfish god but I mean as our creator I think we can owe that to him.

Any God that created everything in the known Universe yet requires the blind devotion of my insignificant ass isn't a God worth worshiping IMO.

No, I feel like if he really was like that then the Devil might not be such a villain after all. I could fake worship but I'd be miserable doing it.
