Even if God appeared and proved everything, would you worship him?

This is a choice between going to hell, or worshiping a deity. Come on people! Who in their right minds would risk HELL! Screw how bad a deity he is I am sure as hell i ain't gonna go to hell!

so confirmation of a endless paradise if worshiped or eternal torment if not

who in their god damn right mind would go with no?

I need pics of this paradise. I wan't to do drugs, masturbate and have sex with a lot of woman. If that's all there, i might reconsider.

My first thought if he appeared and started to do amazing things would be that it was actually an alien race with extremely advanced tech fooling us.

I wouldn't want to, and i'm surprised to see so many would. But if that's it or eternal suffering then...yeah. That would make him a huge dick tho.

Yes, there's no point in resisting a God, you can't win no matter how hard you tried. That said...if God exists there is no fucking way we could ever fathom what he looks or sounds like. A bearded white man in the sky? God would be more like Azathoth.

I'd stick a carrot up God's ass to make his lips move like they did with the horse in Mr. Ed to make him "talk". Then I'd record God and do voiceovers of him saying asinine things.

Really interesting reading the responses that some people would still choose "no". There is some serious anger from some people.

Also interesting is that the bible says one day he's going to show up and everyone is going to bow to him. If that's true then we don't have much say in the matter.

The last time God appeared to me and wanted me to worship him, he blasted a couple of my friends because we wouldn't let him use our starship.

Have you read all of the Bible? He's a hateful, petulant child and not worth worshiping.

edit: If this thread was about Odin my answer would probably be yes.

As somebody who has gone through life without religion or anything having to do with religion, that would be like aliens coming to Earth proclaiming to be my creator.

So no, I wouldn't 'worship' anything. But I might give him a handshake and ask him if he roots against the Yankees.

I don't know. It depends on the god.

If God appeared and ordered me to kill my family we are going to have a problem.

Angry becuase you won't bow to the will of someone just because he says so? Okaaay.

Free will for the win huh.

I'm tickled by the concept of "plotting rebellion" from Hell. I mean, this is the concept of an omniscient, omnipotent being here. The moment the very thought of rebellion pops into your head, he knows. And nothing you can do would amount to anything when he could just wave his hand and *poof* you're back in Hell once more.

And now you don't have a mouth, legs and arms.

And, really, once you start considering the theological implications, Satan didn't defy God's will but is enacting it. Pretty sure that the only thing that was suppose to separate angels and man in the doctrine is that man was granted free will. So everything Satan does is because God wills it. If God doesn't want you to rebel, you won't rebel, simple as that.

I think there's a lot of posturing here but if God arrived and proved his existence 100% then I don't think anyone would turn down basically any of his demands. Let alone a simple demand like "worship me." Especially when you're still allowed sinning according to church doctrine so long as you go and confess it afterwards (or just accept Jesus into your heart if we're assuming it's God of a Protestant persuasion which you've already done anyway since God just poofed his way into existence).

What exactly would you be reigning over?

Perhaps you should be saying "better to suck cocks in hell"?

This is possibly the tamest Hell I've ever heard. I dare say for some people this would be Heaven.

This is kinda a silly question. The one thing that has never made sense to me is why god would want you to worship him. He's freaking god. You'd think he wouldn't be so petty as to desire worship. A desire for worship is something unenlightened humans desire. Franky, I think it's underestimating to god to think he's be so base.

The Christian god is an asshole. If there was an actual godlike entity he'd probably be completely apathetic to lesser species.

Even if the Abrahamic God was real, and proved His glory to the world in all the ways described, I could not worship him.

Acknowledge? Sure. But I can't worship something capable of literally anything, which acts so malevolent, petty and spiteful. Or fails to act, allowing the untold suffering of billions. God is an asshole.

God as presented so far is like a four year old given total unlimited power, throwing tantrums, doing whatever he pleases, then getting bored. How can you worship that?

Nope. He's clearly a bad one.

I'd take the hit and go to hell to spite him, or at least not encourage his wicked experiments by playing along.

"Worship me since I created you. Abide by these rules, or you will go to hell for all eternity"

I guess this is no different from armed tyrants coming into your village and taking over. Of course you'll do as they say.

i would join the rebellion.

When dealing with a being who can move galaxies and planets at a whim as the OP said, there is no rebellion.

And yeah i'd worship. Self preservation is a powerful thing, and i'm not willing to risk being burned in hell for all eternity or have vultures pull out my guts daily or forced to have my eyes pecked out daily or anything else forever lol.

Q could do alot of godlike things in star trek next generation but I wouldn't worship him either. Worshipping out of fear of damnation...not a chance

Which God? I think there are like 6000. And which rules? Even the God of the Christs had some pretty insane stuff in the old testament

I really don't believe people who are posting they'd refuse to worship if the two options presented are either that or eternal torture in hell. It's nonsense. If I pointed a gun in your face and you knew I'd kill you, you would piss yourself. Let alone something like eternal torture from where there would be no release.

Why would anyone worship a foul creature? If he was truly omnipotent then he'd know what I was thinking and send me to Hell anyway so it doesn't really matter.

Maybe I wouldn't be strong enough to stick with my conviction in such a situation, but I'd hope there are those who would fight against such tyranny.
