Every JRPG Ever (college humor video)

Every "Square" JRPG ever.

It is funny, but i think it'll just compound the negative stereotypes that westerners have against Japanese games than come out as a lighthearted jest

Might have just titled it "Man Final Fantasys 4-7 and Chrono Trigger were odd."

Ignoring SMT (Including Persona), Tales, Xeno- everything, Fire Emblem, and the breathtakingly awful Neptunia series.

Do people here honestly think that all of these tropes are unique to square? Stuff like the protagonist being woken up by their mom at the beginning of the game is super common, and the final special attack (often powered by friendship and love and such) is also pretty common beyond Square

I chuckled, but that had the potential to be way more clever. Then again if it got too nerdy people might not get it.

SMT is an odd duck, but a number of these traits can be found in tales games, not to mention a shit ton of old school SNES rpg franchises. And hell, even Persona engaged in the final battle specific attack that's powered by friendship

I think this video could've used more Norse mythology and elementally aligned party members.

Also made me remember Seth-Rah.

Good times.

I recall someone mentioning there was one in a JRPG some time.

She was hot and had a decent rack if I recall. Because why not.

Grandia 3 had the protagonist's mother, Symphonia had the dude's father, but that's the only two i can think of

While tales games fall into some of those cliches, they are mostly borrowing entirely from Final Fantasy and Chrono Trigger.

Makes sense since a lot of content on CH is DAE REMEMBER THE 90s #90skids

I won't disagree. But I'd also say the tropes were also way more common in a lot of the old school jrpg franchises in general, it;s just most of those have kind of died at this point

Xenoblade Chronicles would actually fit the bill of this video pretty well though

I think the video was genuinely funny and inventive at many parts. Especially lolled at the starting village keeping the same dialogue from beginning to end.

Maybe it could have made bit more jabs at other jrpgs than Squares. I did notice they used Tomba 1 music at one point.

They could have done a LOT more with parodying JRPGs. The Grim-dark seriousness of SMT or the creepy creepy bullshit of Neptunia. Instead they stuck with very surface level jokes about SNES rpgs.

College Humor is just as basic as Buzzfeed.

Not going to lie, I thought that was a blast. That being said, I agree with others in that while some of those tropes show up in a lot of different RPGS, this felt more a riff of specifically Square RPGs of yore than the entire genre.

It's not don't make fun of my games, it's that they mostly went for low-hanging fruit.

If you want to mock Final Fantasy games, Mega64's SAKAGUCHI'S FINAL FANTASY video is much funnier.

Isn't that College Humor in a nutshell?
