Every JRPG Ever (college humor video)

I've... never played a JRPG like that.

Lol you guys realize that college humor is trying to appeal to an audience beyond hardcore gamers? Obviously they're going to use the most popular games as their material. Collegehumor isn't even a gaming-specific site. Sure they could have gone deeper with their references, but most of the audience wouldn't have gotten them and the jokes wouldn't work.

Thats fine. I am still gonna say the video was shitty and shallow.

Completely false. There are plenty of JRPG's that don't follow that, Lost Odyssey, Tales of Vesperia, Disgaea 4: A Promise Unforgotten, and more that I can't think of.

I'd like to see a WRPG one as well, but i don't know what it would be comprised of. Probably basic allusions to create a characters, with Mass effect and Skyrim level stuff.

Just riffing off of 90s tropes for JRPGs feels like a wasted opportunity if you were going to do it

Everything was tolkien

Damn, came in ready to hate on this video but that was pretty damn accurate. And you all are clowning yourself if you think these tropes aren't abundant in the genre.

I agree with others though, having parents or older party members would be awesome. I don't know why I can't think of any JRPGs outside of Suikoden where you can recruit very old characters to join you...

Spot on! I would've made it the protagonists 16th birthday too.

The sad thing is hardly anything has changed, RPGs still do all this even decades after the tropes were worn in to the ground.

Great video, but somewhat dated since JRPGs changed a bit from the usual formula, could use more horrid voice acting with squeaky voiced female protags to be somewhat current - and takes place in some kind of academy because angsty anorexic teens with powers are the only ones that can save the world from the apocalypse.

Oh, and obligatory j-pop idol nonsense for the hell of it!

FFIV: The After Years, but it's a sequel.

Pretty much every Tales of antagonist faction has high tech, no? Meanwhile you start off in the sticks with houses made out of wood.
I guess the Japanese love underdog stories.

This was an awesomely funny video. Would hope they'd do one mocking WRPGs as well.
