Every new title published by Microsoft will come to Windows 10

As xbox one owner ( only have laptop and wii u, no pc gamer) i can't see the problem yet:

If M$ exclusives goes to pc--> bigger market for their games--> higher profits --> more "exclusives".

But i understand the people who only bought the xbox for the exclusives and play on pc the third party.I would be angry too.

I'll finally maybe get to try Crack Down. Never bought stuff for the gifter 360 so this is a perfect opportunity. I hope it is fun, people say Saints Row 4 is like a Crack Down, and I liked that game.

I'll keep my eye on it.

Which sounds like a horrible *consumer* strategy, but a perfectly fine business strategy. I am not one of their shareholders, therefore I am horribly dissapointed, and will be selling my Xbox One and will endeavor to buy any of their cross-platform titles on Steam. If it is not on Steam, I shan't buy it.

What

I'll give this 12 months at most. MS has a history of making promises like this and then totally moving on in a year or less. I would take a wait and see approach before making big financial moves.

Now that they have the backend to support, it makes much more sense than before. The Play Anywhere feature is coming with the Anniversary Update as they move into a unified store, the first time they have ever had that. Xbox consoles with the update essentially become the living room extension to Windows 10 they have always wanted it to be because it is becoming seamless with their titles and I would assume they are working to bring 3rd party games into that as well.

What I wonder is what happens to the flow of games. Do they just leave the studios up for the big three franchises? Do they start rebuilding by acquiring new studios? Is there s shift in focus from console-centric games to more pc-centric games? Is it now much easier to justify making deals for third party exclusivity since it's for the good of a app-store?

Many questions about the games output.

True. Thier recent actions doesn't sound like making games and selling them on Xbox platform is their end game.
They didn't build more studio to increase games output, they rely on third party deal/hire. No new age of empire or flight sim for PC.
I'd love some old school PC centric games from MS dead studio. Those titles are more likely to convince me to use win store than their console exclusive.

Maybe that's phase two of thier master plan or something.

im not understanding this one

Because I am simply opposed, as a consumer, to the idea of itterative, non-generational consoles and a shift away from the old way of handling generations. I think it will ultimately harm consumers in the long run in terms of the quality of games released due to optiziming for all SKUs, I think it will confuse stores with having too many different SKUs on their shelves, I think it may oversaturate the market and cause the cost of entry into the hobby to rise, and I do not like the feeling of receiving an artificially inferior experience. It is a practice I refuse to support.

Brilliant! Hopefully they'll stop making such a mess of their PC ports and get the Windows store in order too!

Would be good if they could get their back catalogue on PC too. I'd love to play Sunset Overdrive in particular.

How would they do that?

The same way many PS4 games are cross buy with PS3 and Vita ?

Because why would you need an Xbox One?

2 different platforms ? 2 different places ? my Xbox in my living room. my PC in my "Theater Room" ? more options ? I am not sure where to begin really .

I do understand your logic about no exclusives = no need to buy a console. but in this case. the exclusives are on 2 consoles.

lets say " just an example " a New tomb raider game running perfectly on both Xbox one and PS4 { or Scorpio and PS Neo }. however, one version will give you access to the PC game as well. the other wont. which one will you buy ?

I understand why people feel burned after finding out Microsoft is dedicated to shifting exclusives to multiple platforms; I typically look at exclusives to justify a console purchase, so buying a console only to find that all games can be played on other platforms, especially a platform that you already have access too, is quite depressing.

Again the lack of exclusives are great for the whole, but if you're the person who has a PC, PS4, Xbox One, Wii U, etc. then I thinks it's extremely reasonable to feel sour at the Xbox One purchase.

Despite being irrational, you will find his sentiment more and more common as the months roll on. It's not rational but it's real.

I've never quite understood it personally. I can understand being upset about exclusivity, like if a game comes out on PS4 and I only owned an Xbox One, that's understandable. But for a game to come out to more gamers, that's somehow a bad thing? Because they can't use it in fanboy list wars? It's confusing to me.

I owned all of those, I sold my Xbox One when I saw that all the games I wanted to get were coming out on PC as well. No reason someone who owns all of them can't do the same.

And this is why I traded in my XO last week.

PC/PS4/NX :D

Yup, my case.

I have a ps4, i won't get PSVR but i'll get a neo.

I'll get a 1060 GTX, and I'll get an NX down the road.

Xbox is dead.

Because you bought a console for the content that sets it apart. You don't buy a nintendo console for she shitty gimmick that comes with it. You buy it for the games.

Ps4's library between this year and next year is absolutely mind blowing.

Xbox has virtually nothing that's not on PC, so might as well just get those on PC. If you bought the console early, it can be fine with you, or feel like betrayal.

I fit into this a bit (albeit I'll eventually play these games later). I know a few people I work with also going down this route.

Microsoft's end goal is for the Windows 10 store to be on the same level as Apple's and Google's app store in terms of app abundance and revenue. Throwing Xbone exclusives into that store and forcing people to use that store is Microsoft trying to use the only unique thing that they have that Apple and Google don't have, so they can try and get more people to use the Windows 10 store. Going by what an ex-Lionhead employee said and by looking at what apps the Windows 10 store has, it doesn't seem to be working out for them just yet.

Really? Then why do Gears and Forza not have competitive CPP? Did they give a reason for that? I can't even see why at least Forza can't have it.

Because that's the plan, not what they have now. The whole thing is in development and I believe only on the next win 10 update next year that it will be truly unified.

Even the play anywhere initiative requires the update that's coming in August.

I was wondering, and apologies if this has been asked before, Is it possible to buy the X1 version of the game and redeem it on PC? I don't have X1 and not planning on getting it. The price of the X1 game is less than Windows Store on my country.

If I'm only interested in playing the new Tomb Raider game, then I wouldn't pay $300 for a console. I would pay the $17 I paid for it on PC.

It isn't irrational. I have my valid concerns that this shift will ultimately burden consumers with increased costs, confusion in the marketplace, barriers to entry, and decreased quality of products because of the draconian requirements that all new games must be able to play on any of the new SKUs; none of which have been properly addressed by Microsoft. I am not a shareholder, so I care little about whether "microsoft profits" from games going to PC. I am so opposed to this shift, that I am unwilling to support the shift even in the form it takes on PC; with increased revenue generated from buying games from their store portal. Simple as that. This is not a decision that I, as a consumer, shall support. Nor will I adjust my purchasing habits to facilitate the shift.

It's not like Microsoft has been anything other than half-hearted in their PC venture. They can 180 everything they say in an hour. This "announcement" means nothing.

Yes and you're only getting a fraction of what you paid for back... the person is still getting burned on the purchase, and I think it's fair that they feel sour about that purchase; I would have.

prices of Xbox one games cheaper than PC games here as well. but retail games don't have a redeem code for the PC. There has been no game that has " play anywhere " that is out yet.

the only game that had that was Quantum Break and it was digital only. the Physical copy had a redeem code Alan wake.

This is a new one and quite ridiculous/selfish.

Too bad Banjo is a dead IP now. A new Banjo game would be the only thing that would compel me to actually buy something from the W10 store.

I'm a consumer not a shareholder., I'm allowed to be shelfish.

Two points:

1: Rationality is overrated. The bulk experience we value is irrational. The very act of perceiving meaning is irrational. Beauty is irrational.

2: Exclusive games exist for the purposes of marketing, for the most part. That is to imply; their benefit is somewhat more emotional than practical.

I spent $400 for mine, plus $200 for games, I sold them for $350, and in that time I believe I got out of it what I spent for them. If a person owns literally every console on the market, they can probably afford the loss. The bonus is now I get to play the new games coming out at higher framerate and resolution, so it's a net plus for me.

lol. I paid 20$ and I am not saying a future tomb raider will be 20$ either. but you made me laugh I give you that.

As a console gamer. I will buy the best version that I have on my platform/s . I am going to assume PS Neo is weaker than Xbox scorpio. which means starting Fall 2017. all games will play better on Scorpio.. so I will probably go with that console as main multiplatform games since I am also getting a PC version for it as well.

How is this bad for the consumer?

I'll go with microsofts track record long before a few synergies talk me into thinking this time they mean it.

So this was your experience, but that doesn't invalidate the differing experiences/feelings others have over the situation.

You don't want other people to have options because you don't/won't have access to the upgrades. It's very petty.

If those new options mean that the options I currently have are going to be artificially of lower quality, that I will consistently have to invest more money to get a comparable experience, and that the general quality of games will suffer because they have to be made for the lowest common denominator? Yeah, I'm petty. That is kind of why I ever bothered with console gaming. Low cost of staying current, games with consistent quality across the entire generation, and ease of use.

With all of that gone; Microsoft is trying to give me a poor man's version of a PC and trying to compete with Alienware, poorly at that. Yeah, I'm furious.

We won't hear about it again in a year... People will find their niche and move on. Most gamers won't take advantage of Play Anywhere anyway.

This is literally only a good thing.
And to all the people bitching "I'm selling my Xbone."

...ok... So that's extra cash in your wallet to upgrade your PC.

I wouldn't be surprised if Scorpio is an Xbox Certified pre built Windows 10 PC. That would keep them in the living room while continuing the transition from dedicated consoles.

It's using a semi-custom APU like the Xbox One so it's still a console and not a prebuilt PC. There is a rumor that the Xbox One UI will be made available for PCs in the future though which could lead to 3rd party prebuilt PCs that are "Xbox Certified".

XaaS, Xbox as a Service. This is the way it should be.

Excited to see this and hope to see Xbox on as much hardware as possible.
