I bet OP owns a Bravia

Every game has this. On pc.
What a bad post. You clearly don't know what you're talking about.Meh, it's just slightly better than 30, and completely unpractical for 60Hz displays.
And if the games can already run at rock-solid 40 that means we're just this close to 60, so just drop the rendering resolution and upscale the image.
And ultimately with VRR we could/should just have unlocked FPS so the ganes would run at highest possible franerates without sacrificing 4K or the details.
Who cares! Why would I want to game on a monitor?
Wow. I guess my "filmic" explaination triggered some of you. I guess a better way to convey this is that with 60+ fps you lose that CGI movie "look", much like turning on motion interpolation on TV content and you introduce the soap opera effect. To each their own.
It's got the "feel" of 40fps but retains that "blurry" quality of 30fps
Good news! It's for 120Hz screens, not 60Hz. It's even in the title.Meh, it's just slightly better than 30, and completely unpractical for 60Hz displays.

Shit, you can't connect a PC to a TV? Damn what a backwards platform!

Yeah I don't understand why is it so difficulty for pc gamers to grasp the fact that we don't want to play on PC.See how annoying you felt responding to my post? Now imagine how annoying it feels to see the "so-called" PC gamer jump into a thread like this requesting that we play on PC, instead of 40 fps on our consoles.
It's not just about resolution, they can also push more geometry, physics, lighting, shadows etc. at 30 FPS. This is where the advantage of 40 FPS lies, it combines the graphical fidelity of 30 FPS with the superior smoothness and input latency of substantially higher refresh rate. A win win situation essentially. How about 60fps instead? Works on every TV.
At this point your game better look like something from another world to justify 30fps or even 40fps instead of just 60fps.
If only devs would stop obsessing about resolution and other nonsense that shouldn't take priority over performance... so many games have performance issues that comes from devs not properly configuring the game and having the wrong priorities.
A game will never be made aiming at 40fps, at most it will be an additional mode since it requires the TV to support 120hz. For every game released so far that has offered multiple options the gains you get at 30fps or 40fps do not justify the reduced framerate in any way. It's not just about resolution, they can also push more geometry, physics, lighting, shadows etc. at 30 FPS. Then keep "begging" for basic features. Why should I try to help/give advice, right?Yeah I don't understand why is it so difficulty for pc gamers to grasp the fact that we don't want to play on PC.
Not interested. Then keep "begging" for basic features. Why should I try to help/give advice, right?

Good catch. HDMI VRR doesn't work at 40 fps.40 Hz has nothing to do with VRR.
2 totally different things.

So you want to play at 40 FPS for a fake 60 FPS experience at 120 hertz. Sure.....I see you been on your meds a bit too much lately there billy.
lets be honest with ourselves, aside from niche people like me, most "PCMR" mindset people would not play at 40 fps or whatsoever. prospect of having a smooth 40 fps on their 120 hz screen would be herecy to them. i know, bcoz i suggested the method to couple of my friends, they instead opted lower res/settings and higher fps and i completely respect thatThen keep "begging" for basic features. I would not use too. Unlocked forever.lets be honest with ourselves, aside from niche people like me, most "PCMR" mindset people would not play at 40 fps or whatsoever. prospect of having a smooth 40 fps on their 120 hz screen would be herecy to them. i know, bcoz i suggested the method to couple of my friends, they instead opted lower res/settings and higher fps and i completely respect that
%90 folk wont buy/build pc to get 40 fps/120 hz. it is fantastic for niche people like me though. have i used it personally? i used it in mafia 3 to get a clean, native 4k, since my gpu was not enough to push 4k/60 fps. i was seeing frames between 45-53, decided to hit that sweet 40 fps with low input lag. i also maxxed out Cyberpunk and its RT @4K DLSS Quality and had to resort to 40 fps but it was a damn fine experience. MUUCH better than 30 fps (you can ask why i didn't go the 1440p route. well, game looks bad at 1440p regardless how maximum teh settings are. just like rdr 2, cyberpunk is reliant on 4k lods/assets to look at its best)
i also played valhalla with a 40 fps lock on my gamepad, i can say that i could make some believe it is 60 fps if they come over to me and played it. it was that good and smooth.
though my motivation to get a 120 hz panel was never the 40 fps mode. it came as a bonus. my initial motivation was that i noticed i can comfortably get 120 fps on many FPS shooters, and also i enjoy playing them a lot, so it was a worth investment on lots of fronts. i cannot even think of returning to any kind of 60 hz screen anymore. i'm happy 120 hz serves more purpose than having 90-120 fps in games though
nah i became too sensitive for %99 GPU load input lag at this point. unless a game has Nvidia's reflex implementation, i have to make do with a frame limiter . it was refreshing to be able to play god of war with %99 gpu util at all times, unlocked framerate with minimum gpu bound input lag though. sadly, reflex on aaa narrative driven games seems like a rare sighting. i would like cyberpunk to have it, at least... god of war of all games implemented it...I would not use too. Unlocked forever.
It's ok for casuals but 60 should really be the minimum and also 120fps modes would be more appreciated![]()
Go play the last of us 2 again.60 fps should NEVER be the minimum. Minimum standards like this for video games are stupid. It's a creative medium. Stop trying to get in the way!
And who are you exactly to dictate what devs should do? They're free to do whatever they feel its right for their vision.Go play the last of us 2 again.
Some of us like video games as video games.
Sure. Doesn't mean they're appreciating the strengths of the medium and designing their games as such. And who are you exactly to dictate what devs should do? They're free to do whatever they feel its right for their vision.
So instead of pointing at OP's mistake you try to bash PC chads?I've noticed a trend where PC gamers seem to be the most tech illiterate these days. Must be a consequence of the barrier of entry being lower now. If something similar to DLSS came to console first they would have probably been memeing on it.
Fact. Just cap fps to 40 on VRR display and boom you can enjoy blurry gaming.Every game has this. On pc.
PC chads?
This creative medium is interative, and frame rate affects input latency that less = better.60 fps should NEVER be the minimum. Minimum standards like this for video games are stupid. It's a creative medium. Stop trying to get in the way!
i think i noticed a difference when i turned on vrr on unsupported games on my ps5. it has a more clear picture during motion .maybe its placebo effect but i think even 30 fps games look more clear in motionJust went back to play Spiderman Miles Morales and Spiderman Remastered and the 40fps VRR mode is insanely good. It's got the "feel" of 60fps but retains that "filmic" quality of 30fps, if that makes sense. I hope some XGS implement this option in the future. Would love to see this in Forza Horizon 5 for instance.
its not about higher fps but hrtz on tv120fps minimum or it's not next-gen. Gotta compete with the PC master race.

60 fps has ben used as a band aid fix to blurry tv motion screens , hrtz and vrr are more impactful fixHow about 60fps instead? Works on every TV.

60fps is used because most TVs are 60hz. Devs could still aim for 60fps and allow people with VRR to uncap it.60 fps has ben used as a band aid fix to blurry tv motion screens , hrtz and vrr are more impactful fix
yeah, but it wasnt until the most recent HDMI 2.1 TVs came out in 2020 did we start getting 4k 120 hz modes. Before that, enabling 120 hz mode would downgrade the resolution to 1080p in most sets defeating the entire point of a fidelity 40 fps mode.40FPS is where it's at. Obviously 60FPS is better, hands down. But, 40FPS allows us retain higher resolutions/image quality that would otherwise be sacrificed to maintain a stable, steady 60FPS with the added benefit of an additional 10FPS which makes a world of a difference and reduced input latency.
Literally every TV sold in the last 5-10 years is 120hz capable. Also, no one is saying, abolish 60 for 40. But, make 40 a supported minimum.
