Our brains block out things that we shouldn't be concerned of/aware of, like breathing and our nose. When you make yourself conscious of it then you notice it.
Same goes with glasses, you don't realise you're wearing glasses until you make the conscious effort, then you see the frames.

He's right. It's not like it falls to an uncomfortable spot, but if you didn't need to manually hold your jaw up your teeth would be touching each other all of the time. You would be gritting your teeth constantly behind your lips.
Sounds like a good idea, those settings should be grouped under one heading on a menu. The color picker seems especially important, so we'll call the menu the Nose Picker.
