lol 3 shells, how cruel.

Wow, the dust continues to collect on my PS4.

I don't understand why every year, there are like 0 games released during the summer, 1 or 2 big franchises in Sep, then 100 games in October, rinse, repeat.

People play video games in the summer too, ya dingus!

I was really looking forward to playing this over the summer, as the PS4 drought is real. I have Infamous (completed twice) and the free PS+ games, but none of them hold my interest.

Time to replay some PS3 games :(

So read this again and the previews were on pc yet the game Is having framerate problems, fucking hell? Graphics don't look on par, I mean the faces and textures look quite bad.
I'm getting this game on pc already with hopes Modders will do the job..

....

They have a full 5 months of optimization and polish ahead of them, the game itself is 100% done.

The Last of Us came out last summer. Doesn't get much bigger than that.

Also Max Payne 3 and Saints Row 4.

So here's my summary of the objective information from various previews. Can be adopted for the OP:

Settings and General Information
  • Demos were played on PC with 360 controller
  • The main character is Sebastian Castellanos.
  • Demo includes chapters 4 and 8.
  • Chapter 4 takes place in a village.
You are accompanied by a Doctor Jimenez to assist in searching for his patient, Leslie.
Fairly combat heavy with puzzles mostly in the form of traps.
  • Chapter 8,
    Cruelest Intentions
, takes place in a mansion and is puzzle heavy.
  • Ghosts materialize at times to provide backstory, alongside traditional audio and document sources.
  • 9 types of Collectibles in the game:
Documents, Key Items, Map Fragments, Newspapers, Bulletin Boards, Missing Persons, Heart Lines, Notes, and Audio Tapes.

General gameplay
  • Weapon wheel mapped to the D-Pad is available for real-time weapon selection. Time slows down a bit when in use, but enemies can still go in for the kill easily.
  • There is a stamina bar that heavily limits running.
  • Weapons include revolver, shotgun, knife, axe, and Agony Crossbow.
  • Axes are limited use weapons picked up from the environment/enemies
  • Crossbow utilizes various bolts, which are rare to find. Examples are bolts that freeze, blind, explode, and electrocute enemies. Weapon described as lifted from Shadow of the Damned and a 'last resort'.
  • Ammunition in general is limited in supply.
  • Non-combat items such as matches, health syringe, medical kits and lantern are mentioned.
  • Matches are used to burn downed enemies. Limited supply, with the player only able to carry 5 to begin with (Ch.4) and 8 later on (Ch.8)
  • Health syringe is a quick, low yield healing item
  • Glow of lantern can alert enemies
  • Medical kit heals more than the health syringe and increase available health, but causes a blurred distortion effect for a few minutes when used.
  • Inventory sounds to be fairly limited to start with. Not clear if this is due to a management system or a limit placed on each specific item.
  • Green jars can be collected to use in an upgrade system
  • Crouching mapped to bumper buttons
  • Silent, stealth takedowns are possible.
  • Traps act as puzzles, source of items if disarmed, and as possible weapons against the enemies in the game. Parts gathered from trap disarming are used for upgrading ammunition, such as crafting bolts.
  • Players can hide under beds, in lockers, and in closets to avoid enemies.
  • Melee primarily useful for creating distance or stealth kills

Enemies
  • Takes only a few hits to kill the player
  • In general, enemies seem to be varied in design and use.
  • A white, hooded figure named Ruvik
appears to be the primary antagonist.
Will randomly spawn in areas to confront the player. Cannot be killed. Can kill the player instantly with merely the wave of a hand. Reported that he will disappear if enough time goes by through hiding or simple evasion
  • Death animations are in.
  • Enemies must be burned (through matches) to prevent returning. No transformations have been cited. This is done through matches.
  • The Grudge-Spider woman from the trailers is
Laura, who can spawn from any pool of blood or remaining corpses. She cannot be killed as well.
  • Do drop ammunition at times (2 or 3 rounds have been cited)

Technical Elements
  • Framerate dips a noticeable occurrence. Rely on Horror reports Bethesda is looking to remedy the situation over the next several months of optimization.
  • Level transitions seems to be seamless with no apparent loading, though could be limited to the demo.
  • Game content is complete and in a period of polish and optimization

Edit: Making additions to things I missed over from some articles.

Edit 2: Think that's everything without going into the subjective, contradictory information being thrown about.

These emotions... I can't control them.

Eh... There was a time I was pretty excited about this, but no more.

Combat looks boring. Doesn't look scary. I don't want to just play a disturbing shooter.

Was really looking forward to this in august. Oh well, still can't wait for it. I swear at this point in going to need to ask for the entire month of October off for vacation.

If the combat is cool then what is the point of playing a horror-game? You might as well play DMC or the latest RE.

Unless there are horror-games with great combat that do not take away the horror experience.

you don't have to buy all those end of year games at the end of the year you know? maybe buy some in summer when you're oh so desperate for something to play? they'll be cheaper too. win/win.

I wonder how the attribute system will be structured in this game. I really hope it's not following in the steps of RE6, which I found to be completely unnecessary and odd. I can see health and stamina increases, but that's about it from what I gather with the information we have thus far.

What about Watch Dogs? The PS4 version was never going to be like the 2012 PC footage, and most folks on GAF who have the game seem to be enjoying it very much.

There's also Murdered Soul Suspect that's around the corner, but I know nothing about that game.

Edit: Oh, forgot about Wolfenstein. There are games out there though outside of the PS+ and Indie titles. If you don't find any of those interesting, than that's more of a personal issue than a lack of game releases.

Ninja Edit 2: And there's the Whistleblower DLC for Outlast.

That destructoid preview is not reassuring.

This terrifies me because I'm a big fan of Mikami-san's games and thought this one would be pure awesomeness.

I'm so scared. Hold me!

I know I have read that there are some names on the RE4 team to actually thank for the overall outcome of that game. The same with Vanquish.

Mikami has a great team around him at Tango so, this game should actually turn out better than the impressions.

It's never just one individual (Mikami) that holds all the magic.

I can't be the only person that has been reading these previews and thinking HOLY SHIT this is THE game I'm waiting for. I'm starting to feel like I'm the only one and that I'm crazy! Honestly, I think the game continues to sound and look better and better as the months go on.

Definitely not alone, this is the game I've been wanting all year and the latest batch of previews got my hype back on track. There's nothing else I'd rather play more right now than TEW.

You should be more scared of taking solely that Destructoid preview seriously. Destructoid has people I like...so did Rev3Games and we saw how things went with one of their staff members. Doesn't mean that everyone's opinion is appropriate, and in this case the opinion of the writer of that article is very questionable.

Never understood where the more negative a piece posted on here is, the more accurate it's considered.

Right now the only major issues in gameplay with a solid foundation seem to be framerate, possible balancing issues in regards to Ruvik in specific situations, and some balancing in the stealth mechanics.

Most other complaints seem to fall into people who just don't give a shit for survival horror games and want more RE4-6, or expecting something that isn't Mikami. If that's what you're looking for, this may be disappointing. But if you're a fan of Mikami in general, it sounds like it will be a safe bet.

I read that article, and definitely didn't come to that conclusion at all... Could you give us a quote or something? I mean... Everyone would like to be working on different things. Kojima, for example, has spoke over and over of his desire to work on something other than Metal Gear. But if people like them really want to work on something different bad enough they have a high enough profile to do that, whether it is at another major game company or going indy.

There is a quote (which I unfortunately can't find) where he particularly states that he doesn't want to work on horror games after leaving Capcom, at least not for a long time, and the Polygon article indirectly mirrors that. Although it may be that Vanquish got that out of his system. Who knows? The point I'm making, or at least hypothesising, is that horror games no longer seem to be his priority after leaving Capcom, despite still having an obvious healthy respect and maybe even love for the genre. And if TEW is lacking in ambition or ideas, as the press are suggesting, then it may be that his heart isn't fully in it as a result.

But then again, it could end up being a goddamn classic. We won't know until we've tried it.

I'm not saying that I buy every major game at release, especially being on a limited income. The point is, I'd like to have a major game released during summer, rather than suffer a drought every year. Gaming is 365 days a year, sometimes 366.

Everyone releasing their games in October is a good way for some of them to be overlooked, only to be picked up months later when sales numbers don't matter. This is the time when people pick and choose what to buy because there are like 8 games coming out within 3 weeks time.

Zero interest in Ubisoft games.Watchdogs seems to me like a copy/paste of the AC games.

No interest. Maybe when it's on sale for $20.

Edit: Oh, forgot about Wolfenstein.
I don't like paying full retail for shootbangs anymore. Maybe once it's on sale in a few months

Yeah, I will probably get this over the weekend, as I am almost done with Outlast.

I understand what you are saying. However, it's been nearly a decade since he's made a horror game, if you even consider RE4 one (he had minimal involvement in Shadows of the Damned). So he's had a very sizable chunk of time away from the genre, creating God Hand and Vanquish. Plus he has said in interviews he really has his focus back, so he definitely seems into it to me. And a lot of these latest previews were very positive, especially the ones done by fans of the genre/Mikami.

This looks like the most interesting horror game since re 4 to me. It seems to have all the right elements to keep it interesting. I like the setting. The enemy design is incredible, seriously on point. I love everything I have seen about this game so far.

I'm gonna buy it barring some truly miserable accumulative review scores. And even then it can be wrong, god hand was excellent.

This game looks really good in some shots. This is from the tgs trailer
loving those bricks

oh my god.

They're really doing this.

Wow.

Yeah I hate these. It's like they are trying to say "Hey, our game is scary. Swear!!"

Like when they did the Moms Hate Deadspace thing or whatever. They just don't need to do these.

But I really hope it does have some scares. And I hope it's good and a decent length. Two hour demo would make me hopeful it's a decent length though.

Rely on Horror's preview got my hype levels back up to overflowing. They've rarely steered me wrong when it comes to survival horror games, and I get the sense that their writers actually love the genre as much as I do.

Well it looks like PewDiePie will have something to look forward to. As well as other youtubers.

Some of this stuff reminds me of RE like how the hooded guy seems to be chasing you randomly (Nemesis) and if you dont burn the bodies they will comeback (Crimson Head)

<3

Despite the off-putting previews I'm still maintaining a high interest in this because it's a Horror games and a Shinji Mikami game. REH's preview was far more educational though and definitely kept me on the side of the fence of buying this. Shame it's out in October now though as that's a packed month.

Based on the previews posted, it seems to be a mixed bag critically. But more of 'em lean on the positive side and for that, I'm so happy. Mikami being able to do what he does best is good news. I'm intentionally watching as few videos as I can to not spoil the story at all.

So, it's a mix of fight or flight and item deprivation, yeah? Sounds good to me. The enemies shown in videos look sick as fuck (in a good way). With Resident Evil going the shootbang route, The Evil Within might be the new survival-horror franchise us horror buffs need.

Hoping it won't get trampled when it comes out in October amid heavy opposition.
