Why cry about Marvel if you remember last year everyone complain of the unwatchable level of gameplay in the preliminary rounds. While AE preliminary round were much more entertaining.

Is this normal speed Melee? I mean, I know advanced tactics will speed up your game, but this much??
This is why there's such a schism between the competitive players and more casual ones re: what the optimal speed for a new Smash game should be. (It's much like, say, playing VS normally vs Turbo 3.)

The players currently playing aren't even the top echelon of play. This is normal insofar for slightly lower end on the spectrum of high level players.

KEEP WATCHING, in other words.

AE pools are always entertaining because you see character variety, same for Marvel but Marvel is loaded with frauds in pools and frauds stand out way more in that game IMO

Dang. Non top Melee players look like they close their eyes when edgeguarding. Like they're running through a routine and not even watching whats going on.

I also don't know much about advanced Melee. Who picks the stage?

First match is stricken to on the Random Stage Select screen 1-2-2-1 order, second match loser counterpicks a stage and winner can ban a stage, winner can switch characters before loser picks their character.

That's the gist of it.

Been waiting ages for this EVO,. Me and friends have been playing a fair few fighting games this year so hopefully I can tell what's going on better, at least in SF and MK. I still have no idea what happens in MvC even after playing it for a decent amount of time.

The first game, players take turns eliminating each of the five legal stages until they narrow it down to one they both agree on. Next game the stage is chosen by the loser.

The current ruleset for Evo is 5 stages choices for the first stage, 6 choices for the other fights?

There are five neutral stages. Players will rock/scissors/paper or flip a coin to decide who bans first. Assuming P1 wins the toss, they take turns to ban stages in the order: P1>P2>P2>P1

The leftover stage becomes their "agreed upon" stage for the first match.

After first match, all five stages (EDIT: plus the one counter-pick stage Pokemon Stadium, for total of six stages) are up for selection once again. The winner gets to select ONE stage that the loser is NOT allowed to pick. The loser then selects from the remaining four (EDIT: five) to play Match 2.

Repeat for Match 3.

Hope that helps!
