Evolution 2015 lineup to be announced January 20 at 7 PM PST

? Why are you hating on the Melee scene for something they have nothing to do with?

Taking a dump on people for daring to prefer Melee over the new shininess seems to be a rite of passage for modern Smash fans. Like how a lot of modern Sonic fans feel the feel to trash talk classic Sonic all the time.

Just business as usual.

how about that tekken <3

I'd kiss you if I could, but I'm not that kind of person... mostly cause you live nowhere near me. But if I see you on the street -nodnod-

Really excited to see Tekken 7, hope everything works out well with the planning. Namco is going for something big with a "accommodates everyone" version of an Arcade game.

Disappointed at no DoA5, just cause I think the game is super fun. Also very curious about MKX and its 3 character varieties and if there are any initial ideas about how they might be thinking of handling it. Mike dropped the ball by not picking my question asking about it.

Not sure how I feel about melee either. I mean great their community is so big and passionate but its like... is that scene really growing or at least do they realize the desire for a new game vs. the old one. I like watching melee but, feel like its time to at least start to move on. Shunning a new game just cause its new stagnates interest.

Tekken 7?

Seeing Evo be so picky about games in the past its strange to see them allow what is basically a early access game to be played.

Maybe Namco greased the wheels a little and this is start of a push for the game.

Nice list, looking forward to EVO again as always.

Most interested in SF4 and Marvel, and a bit of Smash and Persona on the side.

I honestly see more of the reverse, although the hating in general should stop.

Neat lineup. Kinda funny, a bunch of people usually whine about anime, but usually one of the anime games brings some amazing moments.

Not happy Melee got a spot over another fighter. Let it go.

When it is pulling more viewers than the majority of games despite it age, I believe it still deserves a spot. It's even increasing in popularity over the past few years, so there's no reason to deny it when it's just as exciting to watch for its fans/others as a lot of other fighting games at EVO. Plus, it's not like there are any significant snubs to this lineup, it already pretty much has every exciting/popular fighting game out there right now (sorry BB/others), so I don't see it as 'taking a spot' from any other game.

Awesome. Great line-up. Looking forward to Melee, Smash 4 and P4AU the most since they're the one I play the most/am most decent at.

Both sides are doing it.

It was one of the biggest games at Evo back to back.

What is with this shitty attitude, man? Are we supposed to move on to a new game even if it plays nothing like the game we're playing? Really?

Stop encouraging people to be fairweather marks, ffs.

BRUH

That entire segment of Prog trading the Cannon award for a top 8 commentary bit just made me so :')

Holy fuck. I can scarcely imagine a better line up. I'd straight up given up all hope for seeing P4 Ultimax at EVO. This and GGXrd, mmmm.

Persona being at EVO is almost bigger in my eyes than Melee coming back amidst the Smash 4 spotlight. That game just sounded like something that was never going to hit the spotlight ever.

The best part about this happening now though is that there's a strong chance that Burn My Dread will be pumping at some point during top 8. :lol

In a week and a half Melee will have a tournament with about 1K entrants. Smash for, for comparison, only has 800-ish entrants.

That's more or less why.

Nah, we really like the game so we're going to keep playing it.

I think SF2 and SF3 are great games. I Also think Melee is up there with them. But it's not necessary anymore.

I'm not understanding Tekken 7 inclusion. It's basically a freebie for people that have access to the game. This is just one big promotional beta test.

You know i can't truthfully answer those questions . You can't follow them all ( the scenes after all ) .

I was under the impression that it had lost it's way already .. maybe i was wrong ..

Well I wasn't asking you specifically necessarily. It was more of an open-floor question.

But if KI is still pulling decent entrant numbers and viewers, I can understand why it made it. I was just hoping someone who follows KI could answer that since I don't.

It's just the typical tribalism that exists within the FGC.

Smash fans hate non-Smash games. Then there's the Melee fans vs Smash 4 fans on top of that. Street Fighter fans hate Marvel. Capcom fans hate Smash fans. Everyone hates Anime and KI.

Obviously this isn't universal, but still.

Wish I was closer to Evo. Would love to go sometime. One of these days I'll make it, I just hope I manage to while Melee is in.

Great lineup this year! Excited to watch the stream at least.

WTF are you even saying though seriously. Melee is bigger than either of those games right now. Like, easily one of the bigger fighters being played. You're literally not giving a reason why it shouldn't be at Evo. Nothing is "necessary" but there are things that makes sense and including a game that did that well MAKES SENSE.

Not "necessary" anymore? What does this even mean? Is any game necessary to be at Evo? Melee is likely to be the second biggest game at Evo this year. If that doesn't make it a necessary inclusion, then what does?

What is this about Smash stages or some 3rd party nonsense?

Mr. Wizard didn't really talk about it in detail so it's just speculation but he said that they have to be within Nintendo's license agreement they have to stream the game and have the game in the tournament. Don't know what the license agreement is specifically but he did say this last year for Melee with respect to its rule set and its rule set turned out to be just APEX 2014's copy and pasted. It's likely the same thing will happen here it's just Mr. Wizard's way of not outright confirming the rule set right now for Smash 4. They'll probably copy APEX 2015's if it's received well enough.

They did get community feedback for Melee when it first came back in 2013 I'm confident they will do the same for Smash 4. They're not going to pull a Brawl 2008 again.
