ExciteBots - The Official Super Sandwich Thread: ********** **********

Would you guys mind taking a picture of the front AND back of the Amaray case the game comes in? I would like to see the differences, there have to be differences!

Someone a page or so back mentioned high scores, so I thought I'd go ahead and share my records screen. Sorry about the low res photo, I used my DSi camera.

I was bitching about this in the chat last night, but I got a 3240° spin in an online Excite Race, and it doesn't show up on the records screen.

*rage*

Oh ouch. What bot did you use for that insane spin?

You know, I honestly don't remember. I tried a whole bunch last night and I think the rage wiped the details from my mind. But the 3240 is burned into my brain.

EDIT: And my shoulders ache today. :lol

I have never seen a game that wears its stupidity on its sleeve so proudly...I love it. I wish I hadn't sold my Wii.

I know exactly what you mean by "stupidity", but it occurs to me that all this crazy shit wouldn't work together so well if the tracks weren't so smartly designed.

I'm itching to try out some of the platinum tracks people in the chat were raving about last night, I just need more time to play single-player to clear gold.

I didn't get as much time as I hope. Real life gets in the way, but I did notice that a lot of the tracks are either ripped directly from ExciteTruck, with things shifted around. Are there new, more visible changes?

Did you get my challenge? :D

blu sent me one, I saw, but I haven't had time to give it a serious spin yet. Perhaps tonight.

I like how it shows awards from challenges and replays separately on the main screen. It would have been cool if it showed Wi-Fi bet awards separately, too.

One thing that concerns me a bit (I haven't played it yet) is that I understand they added Mario Kart-style items. Are they balanced?

There's very few items, and being the victim of an item may mean you're delayed for like a second or so. They're not a major part of the game.

Yeah. In particular, there's no blue-shell-alike. Many take effort to use, too.

Is it just me, or did they take the tracks from ExciteTruck and just modify them? I swear I've raced on certain parts of these tracks before.

Some of them are redone Excite Truck races. Think Mario Kart Wii's reimagining of retro tracks (adding new obstacles, jumps, and the like).

Makes sense.

I picked up the game last night and I didn't stop playing until I was on Super Excite. Now, I am running on 4 hours of sleep and having withdrawal symptoms. Neeed.... EXCITE. :D

Man, I love this game, it's pretty insane. The only thing is, I'm absolutely horrible at the red bars...any tips? Should I watch the motions on the right instead of my bot or something? It's just getting the spin started that messes me up (and costs me like 30 seconds). I was so bad at it that I got DQ'd a decent amount. XD

Oh, and Grasshopper is my bot of choice, I enjoy the bad grip.

If you anticipate the rotational motion, it's really easy. Just try to get a 1:1 motion between the vehicle and your movements and you should SUPER RED BAR it every time.

I find it helpful to listen to the sound, too.

Someone give me confirmation that this works on a PAL Wii via GeckoOS and I'll buy it.

Bastard pricks. My wallet is your slave.

I'll let you know when mine arrives :P

I tried. All I got was bread.
I'd say the sandwich mini is one of the hardest. I also am mediocre at getting a swordfish.

However, I'm am the MAN at getting bull's eyes. There's something so satisfying about burning through the air at well over a hundred miles per hour, blindly throwing a dart overhead and getting the 5 stars for a bull's eye.

Also, punting a fellow Bot into the stratosphere never gets old.

That's what I do.

I try to keep in time with what my bot's doing rather than look at the window on the right. Works really well, but this is likely one of those six of one/half a dozen of another type things. Personal preference.

Spoiler for what you get when you get a B or better for every track in mirror excite:

6 new icons...some cool ones...skull and cross bones, tarantula, serpent...and also shows a screen saying "Tip: Get an S rank on every track to obtain a special bot!".

It's easy to tell what it is on the vehicle select screen...I just REALLY hope I can take that online, because even if it's shitty I'll use it...I assume I will, since you can do things choose the crystal race, which is also an unlockable...

Now to just S rank all of mirror...god that's gonna be a bitch.

Do any of the mini games (challenges) from excite truck return? Can't see them, perhaps unlockables? I quite liked the ring and other challenges from that game.

So what's GAF consensus: can I ignore the dumb ass wheel bundle, or does it make the game better?

It seems like it doesn't do much... Makes some of the tilting more comfortable, but not much.

Not worth $10.

indeed. i do the opposite - i sync with the window motion, and of all the red bars i have had since i started playing, i think i've missied a couple of super red bars, at most. OTOH, doing multi-loop airspins with the froggy is rather tricky, i don't think i've pulled more than 1080 yet. then again, i generally suck at airspins, so there you go.

Apologies if this has been asked but I did a search and couldn't find an answers. In Mario Kart you were able to join your friends in public races. Can you do that here? Cuz I only see the option for private races against friends, which sucks. I like mixing my friends with strangers!

No, it doesn't seem you can, unless I missed something. Can't invite Wii Friends either.

You also can't bet in friend matches; I wonder if that has something to do with it.

I haven't even tried. Just save yourself 10 bucks. If you liked ET controls, it isn't any different here.

Okay good. Now I just wish I had my Wii so I could play it. :(

The heavy bots are much harder to get going on the red bar. I find that pausing for a split second before starting the circle helps, so that my wheel is at the bottom of the first rotation at the same time as the wheel in the picture. Once you get the momentum going it's okay, but expect that smaller bots will always pass you on red bars.

The things I can't get the hang of are the yellow bars and ladder bars. Any tips on timing the release? It seems to be about 50/50 for me whether I get the good release or not; I just can't follow the motion of the bot well enough, and it seems like there is a slight delay between when I push the wheel forward and when the bot releases. The good news is that I've gotten much better at recoveries, which can be really satisfying.

Fantastic game. Lives up to all expectations.

After spinning for a second, your bot's swinging speed will slow dramatically, making this much easier. I had been trying myself while the bot was still going crazy on the bars and crashed a lot myself. It was a huge "duh" moment when I waited once to try to get it right and noticed the slowdown and then the box with "Push!"

Of course, if you wait too long, you might end up with a drop in stars on the dismount, but it's better than risking a crash usually.

played a little today:

fuuuuuuuuuuuuck.

It gives off trackmania vibes of awesome. I wish it were a game that was packed in with every Wii, one of those "pick up and play" games that everyone has and just plays randomly when they are bored.

So yeah so far I am feeling the EXCITE. Let's see how long it lasts.

No wheel is ok. I havent tried it with the wheel yet, but hell Excitetruck played well holding it sideways, I see no problem playing it how it was originally intended with Excitebots. I think the wheel is to get the casuals or Mario Kart Wii audience interested in this game.

I think it's easier to turn on a dime without the wheel anyway

just out of curiosity are the other stunts like pie, sandwich, goal and stuff are those part of the regular race or part of a separate mode or something?

gotta pick this up, regardless.

oh and does the game come with a wheel shell?

yikes. good game but the controls hurt my hands :(

i'm sure i'll just get used to it. can't wait to play online :D

40 w/o shell, 50 with shell

It's all part of the race, but part of it, as in, they are items on the stage, whether you actively do them, that's something else. Only Poker is a separate mode.

Pies, sandwiches, goals are normal parts of the race. You don't have to do them, they are activated by hitting switches. They aren't inhibitive to the race at all. Half the time they open up shortcuts...

$50 version comes with wheel.

$40 for no wheel.

:lol S ranked my first race. 167. I thought I might be a little rusty, guess not.

There's a timing to hitting the yellow bar immediately on the first spin. I started to get it down a bit last night and was racking up stars a'plenty from it.

EDIT: Now if only I could drive better, I'd be kick-ass at this. :lol
