Explain Ash VS Evil Dead's internal logic to me

No series spoilers please.

I'm watching Ash VS Evil Dead and I'm confused as to how the Deadites and possession actually work. The demons can possess anyone, living or dead right? Why not possess Ash and stick a knife through his head? Or possess the woman hes handcuffed himself to? Or his sidekicks? Or possess more than one person at a time? Can the deadites exist in broad daylight now?

Is there any internal logic to this show or am I expected to "shut off my brain"? Help me understand, GAF.

Ash was possesed in one of the movies as was his hand and one of his dude kicks gets possesed as well. It rather random though.

Thats what I suspected. As the BattleMonkey said it features a guy with a chainsaw hand but that doesn't mean they can't have a cohesive narrative.

It is what it's always been.

It's largely nonsense driven by gore and Bruce Campbell's charm. Fun times but don't think about it.

Maybe I'm wrong, but isn't it said within one of the episodes that it comes down to a living person's will-power or something of that nature? I can't remember exactly, but I thought there was some kind of off-the-cuff explanation given at some point.

I mean, I suppose theoretically there's no reason the deadites can't just possess literally everyone right? I can't remember if there even was a reason they couldn't just leave the cabin/woods back in 1 and 2.

Great show though.

Internal logic?

They tried but the bridge to get back out of the woods broke I think.

I mean, if it's something that really bothers you, you can say that there is some type of logic to it set within the Neonomicon, but we aren't privy to that information since no one can actually read it. Ash being some type of 'chosen one' for instance, as pictures in the book imply, may disqualify him from possession, or something of that nature.

Ash is too on top of it to get straight up possessed. He's just lucky enough to scrape by and get out of any messy situation. Same with his crew. Except when they're not.

Plus you could say there's some twisted logic where it's more effective for them to possess Ash's friends cause that will mess him up more than if they just killed him outright. And there's a bit of self fulfilling prophecy in that they can't kill him because then what would they do.

I think you're taking it too seriously. Everyone gets possessed in the show, and none of the important characters die. Just take it for what it is.

I mean if we are getting critical of things in Evil Dead how does Ash cut off his own hand with a chainsaw and not instantly pass out from the loss of blood pressure and outright bleed out in a few minutes.

haven't seen the show but based on the movies i'd just imagine that it's possible for people to fight against becoming possessed and sometimes they succeed and sometimes they fail. ash fights against being possessed in the movies and wins so he is pretty good at it & has experience.

Humans need to be brutalised to near death or killed first in order to be possessed. Ultimately, its all about breaking down physical condition and will. Most humans are strong willed and physically able so they need to be killed first but there are a select few that are not.

Deadites basically possess whoever the fuck they want, whenever the fuck they want, and all of it mostly comes down to how much they can torture Ash Williams.

Ash is the Chosen One, hence the only time they tried to possess him he was able to fight it off, cut off his hand, but then the hand kept trying to kill him.

Thats not really the same thing. We accept a lot of crazy stuff happens in Ash's universe. Demon possession is a real thing for example. But I don't think its unfair to ask storytellers to remain consistent in how they write their characters without rewriting the rules of their universe.

One thing that comes to mind is Buffy The Vampire Slayer Season 7. One uber-vampire nearly kills Buffy. Shes almost died at every encounter. But then she and her team of barely-trained Slayers are killing dozens in the finale like they're made of wet tissue. The entire rule set for their universe seemingly got upended simply because the story demanded it had to without any explanation.

Yep. And it was such a fucking hype moment because of it.

I think you mistook me for seriously criticizing that moment. Its not a series or set of movies that should be taken seriously. He also drinks scalding hot water to kill a tiny version of himself that entered his stomach with no real effect.
