Face-Off : Ultra Street Fighter 4 PC vs PS4

ship now patch later, as always

It's not even that. CEO is a month away, Evo is in less than two months. This was meant to be tournament standard and it's going to miss both short of a miracle. They either straight up didn't care or no one was at the wheel. Either way it is not a good look.

Other Ocean made it.

Sony's Third Party group should have known better than hiring them for such a reputed franchise in the first place.

In my opinion this is 100% on Sony. Yeah Other Ocean should have done a better job and Capcom should have overlooked it, but Sony were the ones who decided to release it in this state AND have the gall to promote it as the tournament standard with PR that isn't even true. I don't understand how anyone could let that happen. There are people who have played the game for thousands of hours, why not invite some of them into a closed beta to make sure it's solid? How do you not notice the missing AA, AF and the menu framerate?

This could have been a homerun and pretty successful, but the fucked it up completely. They need to fix it somehow.

Capcom and Sony should be ashamed and sort this mess out quickly. Especially if they want to use the PS4 version for EVO

I really hope a similar fate doesn't reach Resident Evil Revelations 2 on Vita, which like this is also being managed and handled by Sony's Third Party Production unit. Hope they've chosen the right team to take it on, and are making sure it gets out the door without any noticeable issues. Would like a good handheld port of that game.

How's the populaiton on PC, I don't know anythign abotu how well fighting games do on Steam.

If it's healthy I'll pick it up!

Depends. In the US is most likely healthy, but Capcom needs to broaden regions instead of reducing them to a single country in matchmaking.

Still comparing the netcode to the 360 version is night and day in favor of PC (now fixed) and is possible to find decent games against people from Germany, Argentina, France, etc.

Another problem is half the FGC still being allergic to PC gaming.

In dire need of patches. The great thing is on PC when the port is deemed "subpar" it at least outclasses console versions on the right specs.
For fighting game it is more complicated.

Ever since GFWL got discontinued, online for Steam has been a crapshoot and a usually poor experience.

Strangely free online no longer seems to matter.
In my area console gaming was dominated by PS3 in last gen.

But people who were more serious about SF4 plunked down for Xbox Live just to get better online matches.

Yeeeeeah, I wouldn't get your hopes up on that one.

It's unfortunate, this release should have been the definitive, tournament-ready iteration.

Capcom treated it like a cash-in, and that's how it turned out.

Isn't this more like Sony went cheap and hired a group that makes High Voltage look good?

So the Playstation Now version is actually the better version of this game?

Why would they, presumably, port the PS3 version over the PC one? Did Capcom not provide PC code?

I don't think DF concluded that, it's just something I've seen here on NeoGAF. I very much doubt that they ported anything but the PC/Arcade version.

Yeah, I'm aware of that. That's why I said presumably. Either way, I just want them to fix this mess in a timely manner. I really want to play USF4 on my PS4 without having to worry about input lag issues, glitches or weird "balance changes".

What the hell is Sony playing at these days?

they didn't understand what they were getting into with the competitive scene, apparently. also read that Gio Corsi is a former Capcom guy and used Backbone when he was there and the dev on this game is basically Backbone under a different name.

GT Time had a nice little rant discussion on the port debacle in the latest episode.

Came for an analysis of the port. Got a bunch of tired old passive aggressive PC comments out of the same people. Warriors come out and play.

If the port was actually good I would have bought this. Now it is a never purchase unless it is fixed.

It's a 7 year old game. The original came out during the Bush administration. On hardware a whole generation and nearly a decade behind today's current gen systems.

This should've been the definitive edition. It's the worst version. Even the 3ds is more solid than this.

Patches for a 7 year old ps4 port... Inexcusable. Simply inexcusable.

And to think, before it came out, my biggest gripe was it being digital only and thinking Capcom was being cheap. I didn't know everyone was THAT cheap...

Shame on Other Ocean. Shame on Capcom. Shame on Sony.

But generally though. During last gen you could count on anything Sony put out to be finely crafted and immaculate, from first-party games to HD ports. Now they're putting out crap like they don't even give a damn.

Once again console certification process proves to be bullshit. I guess as long as the HUD isn't rendered on the exterior 25% of the screen everything is ok!

GG Other Ocean.

You really have to wonder why anyone would hire the dev team that had issues porting old Mortal Kombat games to make the definitive tournament focused version of the biggest fighting game out there.

Yeah I'm sure they are cheap but, again, you want to make the definitive tournament focused version of the biggest fighting game out there, it's not the time to cheap out

The graphics comparison video was very helpful to me. The differences in AA and anisotropic filtering are negligible to me. All I care about is them fixing the game feel and the menus. And online performance, obviously.

Be outraged quieter please. It's not like playing online while offline at all /s

It really seems like they ported the PS3 version over to PS4 instead of the PC version doesn't it?

This is kind of backwards. Especially since the USF4's Arcade Hardware is effectively PC based hardware, USF4 runs on the Taito Type X revision 3.

This what is basically under the hood - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taito_Type_X#Taito_Type_X.C2.B3

Wouldn't it made more sense to work with the Arcade version or PC version of USF4 and do a straight port to PS4 since both the Arcade & PC versions are effectively all using the same architecture, rather then deal with the PowerPC Cell based PS3 and whatever issues that come along with it?

That's disappointing. I'm pretty sure the PC version will run on nearly anything. Even more disappointing is having to keep the PS4 controller on to use a PS3 stick.

Maybe they'll re-cock and start all over with the PC version? Has there ever been a time when a game released, then completely redone and re-released in a better state? Is that what happened with the ZoE2 remastered thingy?

I find that just, so bizarre.
Like, if your controller's batteries die, your stick stops working? How in any way is this dualshock tethering system good for tourneys? Which I thought was the focus of this release. I'm guessing it's for the PS3/PS4 stick compatibility, but there has to be a better way.
