Nah, Ichigo still holds the crown for one of the most boring shounen protags. There was maybe a spark of Yusuke Urameshi-esque delinquency in the beginning before devolving info an inert slug.
I feel there are two main ways to not like a character. It's either through indifference or contempt. It seems you dislike him through indifference, since...yeah, ichigo is kind of a nothing character.
Is Natsu the same or does he do things that make him contemptible.

Fairy tail is also incredibly popular, less than one piece of course but still very popular.
Why something is popular has oftentimes little to do with quality.
Bleach got cancelled because it stopped being popular, that it was terrible just added to it.
I mean just look in this thread, people hating on this series, but the thing has sold 60 million copies, almost as much as full metal alchemist (an actual decent shounen series).
In the same vein i dont find one piece to be very good, its too formulaic, but i still find it to be a fun read.
Maybe you are right, maybe terrible is too strong of a word for one piece, but i certainly wouldnt call it good.

Surprised there's so much Fairy Tail hate. I love it. Huge fan. I personally always enjoyed the series for what it was. I don't know, I guess people had some kind of other expectations for it. And I suppose I can see how it may have erred in some ways, but I've enjoyed it thoroughly for the most part. So when it does end, it will probably end on a pretty good note for me.

It's always been more than that. Fairy Tail is pretty fucking powerful. No matter how how much love or friendship there may be, everything they manage to pull off is backed by a pretty awesome bit of power. It doesn't just appear out of thin air; it was always there. They just get that second win, or extra motivation, and rise to the occasion. But it's always firmly based on the very real power that lies within each of Fairy Tail's most powerful members.

There's really nothing too Natsu. His character has no motivation, he wins every arc in the exact same way, he has 0 personality. He's got Luffy's asexuality combined with Ichigo and his utter lack of character
He's just dull, all the character in fairy tail are dull tbh. It was fun for a little bit when the magic was at least creatively used but not anymore.
I would like to see that "high quality" entertainment trying to stay as relevant and consistent as One Piece for 20 years...
Anyway, about Fairty Tail, that's fine, might give me a motive to restart the anime, I got a bit tired of it when it came back, but knowing it has an ending on sight I may be interested. It can't possible be as miserable a Bleach ending.

Erza got shrunk and her first though was "will Jellal still like me tiny", paraphrasing. Ignoring their poorly setup romance, it was just the final nail in the coffin for Erza as a character.

I've been reading Fairy Tail for about 8-9 years or so. Can't say I was really invested after 2-3 years, if that. I just kept reading it cause it became part of my weekly routine and by the time it got to being as bad as it did, I had gone along for so much of it that I felt obligated to finish it.
It's by no means a great series, or particularly good, but still, I'll miss it when it's gone. No doubt Mashima will be back with something else soon though. Maybe I'll take to reading Rave in the interim. Apparently that was better.

Nah, the last arc is golden, Goda is in top form. One Piece without him is not One Piece, the man deserves to finish the work of his life.
Erza is immortal to me thanks to this scene, she will survive any character assassination.

Say what you want about Mashima, his work ethic is insane and he really does appear to love what he does, especially including the ecchi. What other mangaka dresses up their characters more than him? At the same frequency? For over 50 volumes? That right there is dedication.

Reading this series, I felt this was a huge drop from his other better series rave master. I can't remember any good arcs that are memorable compared to the other which I can recall on the top of my head.
