Falcom (not) announcing new game on January 25

I hope Sen gets ported to the PS4 too. Falcom's never had issues with porting older games over to newer platforms, it'd be nice to see that expand upwards.

I recall an interview with high ups at Falcom that basically said it was more cost effective (and they could make better games) if they focused more on story and didn't try to keep up with the Tech Joneses. So they spend just enough money on tech to make it work and look "OK" and pay their writers better.

Well, considering they're one of the few devs who still churn out 50+ hour JRPGs almost every year, I'm not complaining.

Besides, Sen is a good start for them as far as tech goes. If they can reach Atelier level of in-game graphics over the next few games, I'd be elated.

If it's Ys I'd be a bit surprised by a PS4 title. A PS3 maybe, though I suppose that might not qualify as huge precisely.

Of course, it may not get localized so who can say?

The chances for a Ys title to get a localized version are quite high since the games usually aren't too long and don't contain too much text. The Kiseki games on the other hand....

Hmm, that is true. I forget sometimes that the huge amount of dialogue is the reason behind those titles taking so long.

I've come to really love Falcom over the last few months and will be there Day 1 for anything they release in english. Wonderful company and I'm so glad I started playing their games.

They must have made the decision to go that route in '95 or '96, considering that in '95 they released LoX II on Turbo CD and Ys V and Brandish 2 on SNES, all of which are good-looking late 4th gen titles. But then after that they mostly gave up on consoles for years, and have never tried again to do high-end graphics on a console game. That's okay, it has gone well for them that way, but that has to be when they made that choice...

Guess I need to look into their PC Engine games more, I was thinking of Ys III but that was Hudson screwing it up. Legend of Xanadu II's something that interested me though, though that was only by reading a little on HG101.
You think Hudson messed up Ys III? But isn't it pretty much the same on Turbo CD as it is anywhere else? Hudson/Alfa System only did the Turbo CD port of Ys I & II, not any of the others...

But yeah, Falcom licensed out a lot of ports of their games that gen. Figuring out who exactly did what is confusing... Falcom did make a few themselves, such as Popful Mail (SNES version), the two Legend of Xanadu games (TCD), and Ys V (SNES), but a lot of the other SNES, Genesis, Sega CD, and Turbo CD games are by other companies -- Hudson/Alfa System, NEC, Tonkin House, Epoch, Koei, Sega...

Lol. I don't suggest anyone stay up for this if it's late. The info in the OP isn't really accurate. I just took a look at the site: http://falcom.jp/jdk/fa_live.html#time_anc

This is mostly a mini-concert and talk event celebrating 10 years of Kiseki. Here's how the schedule looks:

- Starts at 7pm
- 40 minute live performance
- 20 minute break with food and drinks for the audience
- 45 minute talk event about 10 years of Kiseki
- 15 minute break with more food and drinks for the audience
- 45 minute presentation on the Sen no Kiseki sequel and what else they have coming

So for those staying up JUST to see the "Ys 8" announcement or whatever, be prepared to wait well over 2 hours beyond the countdown in the OP. Loooooool.

Thanks for the info. I wonder what food and drinks they will be serving.

Oh well. I actually hope it's a new IP, classic JRPG like Legend of Heroes series but completely new, so it could be localized.

Not too big on Ys series personally.

Gaf, when was the last time an announcement of an announcement has turned out to be as….

Fuck it…

HYPEEEEEEE!!!!!

Booooooooo, I wanted to watch it, but I also would like to not be the walking dead at work tomorrow.

This seems like an appropriate place to ask - I've never played a Ys game, and I've heard a million great things, so I've been meaning to try one out.

I have a Vita. Should I just get Celcita? Or is there a particular PSP one I should download?

Any Ys is a good starting point, don't worry too much about the story.

I don't even know if I want to stay up for Sen no Kiseki 2. Event though I've been pretty hyped about this series since Zero. I guess over time the "oni~san" moments in Sen stuck with me and soured my overall view of the game.
