It was either hang out with Ash and his dweeb-arse pokeymen for the rest of his life or bang that hot female Charizard every day.

I think he made the right choice.

You should have watched the OVA first imo

I did. It still barely makes sense.

Yes but it took a while before Charizard stopped being a little bitch and turned into the awesome pokemon it is now.

WAT there is an anime?

Edit: oh its live action

Yeah, that's probably as close as you'll get for a while. Have there been drama to anime adaptations? Or does one cannibalize the other?

Maybe I should give it another try. Maybe I came in with too low of expectations.

Maybe. I'm not going to say it's great or anything... because, well, it's still a Jdrama. :lol

You will watch the Nodame Cantabile J-Drama....

It's actually good?

Yes, It's just as good as the anime, if not better just for the simple fact of how they cast the "Famous German Conductor" and I think both the anime and live action upstaged the manga for the simple fact that the LA and anime kept the story pretty much entirely faithful to the manga, but you can hear the music. The Live Action changes things a tiny bit that I would guess were for budget reasons, but are not distracting if you watched the anime or read the manga, and are very very minor.

It really works because it's not an action show, it's not a show that requires and special fx (though they do use some for comedic effect once or twice). The story really lends itself well to a live action. You're not really seeing these characters do anything you couldn't imagine happening in real life.

Huh, sounds interesting. I've never watched a J-Drama before, might give this a try.

Is he played by a German?
LOL No.

A lot of J-Dramas are fine if you can tolerate or even find amusement in low budget productions as well as take a fair amount of cheese. By low budget I mean depicting a jet liner making an emergency landing with a toy airplane and some train model scenery.

flawfuls said:
I don't see how either could be as good as the manga though. A good portion of the humor came from the hilarious drawings.
I've never read the manga, but I'm betting it doesn't have Katsuhisa Namase as Sawatari.

I noticed talk of FMP?:Fumoffu a bit back. If you don't have and want it, now's the time for the Blu-ray set fpr $25@Amazon...

(still haven't watched anything from the Fall season) *whistles*

I wish I weren't broke so I could see the brilliant book retrieval episode in glorious HD :(

As far as I'm concerned, there's nothing better than that sort of thing.

I'm a sucker for shitty model shots and questionable usage of stock footage. Really, anything that screams "cheap" :P

Just the first episode so far... I've been watching stuff from the early 80s and 90s for the last 3 months. The movie just came out right?

MacF (and a lot of new series) hurt my eyes when it comes to animation, I'm totally the opposite. Nothing as awesome as older series in high quality.

DrForester said:

He's a pretty cool guy when he's talking on TV, heh.

Is he Ocelot. His hair and mustache and hand gesture reminds me of Ocelot.

I sort of agree. Shows like Frontier are really clean and have lots of effects, but the actual animation and detailing is really poor. I miss the days when they animated mecha by hand.

The character is very animated and does serve for some Comic Relief, even in the anime in manga. Only in the anime and manga he's pretty much drawn like the stereotypical anime European.

TSR is also only $27.99.

Tempted to get them.. Maybe tomorrow.

Maybe it doesn't, but if it changed and fixed the problems you had with it enough, I wouldn't say the premise didn't suit your taste. You're looking for something more that it will probably not provide you. I'm not really bothered by the lack of extra drama as you mentioned although I see my enjoyment of TWGOK rising if the anime took certain liberties and made that possible.
I dunno, even if what I wanted changed were changed it still wouldn't be something I like, just something more tolerable.

But mangas in progress are a hard thing to really judge as he's now revisiting old characters, for all anyone knows they
may all remember him and are just trying to pretend they don't
.

I just think it'd be better if the problems were a tad more important, if the girls never forgot(not saying they all have to be madly in love or some shit they could just constantly exclaim how they have no idea what they were thinking) and if they weren't throwaway chicks
(which they may not be, he may have to revisit them all and they may all have Goddesses for all anyone knows so maybe we're near the cap of girls)
.

But, I'd still have the problem of not being able to relate to the main character, finding his priorities idiotic and really just having a hard time caring what he does. The show franchise just was never for me, I only like Genshiken because they were useless, had Genshiken glorified them all like TWGOK does I'd have hated that too.

But I don't really want to be the dissenter in an official thread unless it's constructive criticism and frankly I don't think I can offer that, so I'll sit her and spoil everyone's fun here but I'll leave the official threads alone as a safe haven for the fans.

Macross 7 is like a hardcore drug. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. But... its kinda awesome, and you might like it (or it might make just make you angry) (or you might just OD) (or you might narc and rat me out for trying to poison you).
I've seen the show long ago but none of the extra shit, but I'm going to have to see the movie now. That song is seriously some bad ass 80s rock, like if Europe or Dio had a female vocalist. Awesome shit, still listening to it. Maybe I just wasn't broken enough back then to like the show.

Why is the main love interest "melon soda"? Is this a comment about the interiority subconscious desire? Not only does one have to cut open a melon, but the process of wringing out the juice from the melon is a violent deconstruction of the self.
Lol, you're too good at that that I almost imagine you really having that thought. Anyways, is there a juice that isn't a violent destruction of the fruit so wouldn't any juice represent the same subconscious desires?

More important than the flavor in my opinion is the lack of plastic or PET based bottles. Is it because a bottle could be considered a phallic representation? Did I just discover the plot of the sequel?

Anybody here have a backlog of anime they are going through or is it just me?
Go to my anime list, compare it to any other member with taste and the titles I'm missing are on my backlog.

Epic shit like Boogiepop, Rurouni(however it's spelled) Kenshin, Black Lagoon, Planetes, Cowboy Bebop the Movie, Escaflowne, Kino's Journey, Nausicaa, Millenium Actress, Paprika, Perfect Blue, the Place Promised in Our Early Days, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, basically, if you think something's good and it's not on my list, chances are it's on my backlog.

Reknoc said:
Oh wow home tips from Macross 7! Don't have a bunch of straws in your fridge otherwise people might think you're some kind of manslut. Do people keep their straws in the fridge?
Why do I remember the dumbest shit? All he has are juice and straws, it's like he picks up kindergartners.

Anyways, shit like this bugs the hell out of me.
YVSl7.jpg

Why the fuck would they make the streets like this? It's a damn space ship, there's no natural formations or some shit they need to go around, are they trying to make the ship "feel" larger by making it take longer to get everywhere?

Why was the place Basara lives not part of the fleet? It's on the same fucking ship, what gives?

Everyone should join the FMP! Bluray party!
I appreciate Funimation taking the time to convert them to Bluray but couldn't they edit Tessa out while doing the remaster? She's worse than any banding, DNR or artifacting.

Yeah i'm sorta the same. I never get why people have a hard time getting into older shows because of the animation, when i find it's more watchable then watching a number of modern shows like say seed or macross frontier.

People like sterile coloring and auto-fixed lineart apparently!

The OVAs were okay, the movie rocked pretty hard though.

Macross 7 started out looking bad... and SDF was downright shit at times (epic knife fight). Frontier doesn't look anywhere near as bad as SEED though.

So I've decided to watch Glass Mask

513px-Glass_mask.jpg

The problem is that I'm not sure which version to watch/read. I saw the first episode of the 2005 and read a bit of the manga. I think like the pacing of the anime better than the manga, but the manga does a better job of expressing the raw shoujo passion and more importantly has awesome giant shoujo sparkley eyes.

Fbhed.png

The 2005 anime really tones down the art and makes it look kind of bland. Probably to make it more modern looking. There was also a 1984 anime, maybe I should try that.

Has anyone here read/seen it or know which version is considered the best?

Diebuster episode 4

HOLY FUCK! The end of every single episode so far has been significantly better than the last, but this is ridiculous. Nono is the female Kamina. I can't believe I haven't watched this sooner.

Come on, man. Nono gets shit done and all she wanted was love. Kamina choked after talking lots of shit.

Fine, post-timeskip Simon. The point is she's awesome.

In fact, can I get some recommendations for more shows with female leads like her?

Too much programming makes Haly something something aware.

Wolf's rain 11 - The story of this show is certainly interesting, but i'm not exactly riveted or engaged by anything that's going on. I had the same feeling when i was watching Rahxephon for example.

Seed and Frontier are some of the ugliest shows ever made. Frontier much more than Seed.
Agreed.

The designs in Frontier are utterly disgusting. Offensive to the human eye.

edit: I feel like a worse human being just for having been subjected to the design of Ranka

Read the manga, it's amazing even if a bit over dramatized.
I watched a bit of the 2005 version of the anime and some of the old version. The new version definitely looks better, but really the manga is superior.
I own and have read up to the 44th volume and simply love it (and 45 and 46 will be published in february and march here! Can hardly wait).

I'm moderately intrigued by the allegedly "problematic" episode 3, but that's really it. I'm entirely ready to forget about the show after that.

Gonna have to wait until Sunday night or Monday unfortunately. NY Comiccon all weekend and I got a friend that doesn't like anime staying over each night.

I'll definitely post my impressions when I finish though :D

They didn't convert them to bluray but they improved their versions over the Japanese releases for the first season and Fumoffu.
