Wait, is there EoE hate in this topic? I'm no Evangelion fanboy but EoE was one of the only good things to come from the mess that was the second half of Eva.

3.0 was supposed to come out this summer, but then it didn't, and no one has even talked about the movie since before 2.22 came out :lol

I think next summer is a pretty safe assumption, which means summer 2012 for the rest of the world to see it. =\

3.0 is a ways away dude.

Best (funniest) thing about Gankutsuou is its the most faithful adaptation that the Count of Monte Cristo had had in many many many decades.

They increased the prominence of several characters, Franz, Eugenie and Peppo, as well as changed their relationships with Albert, and the ending was different, but it was still 100X more faithful to the book that that Guy Pierce film.

Fall Season's Real incest Show 7: Dem jiggle physics.

Wait I thought this was supposed to be Shrine Maiden's arc.

Oh damn I'm confusing it with Amagami, the arcs are only 2 epsiodes long.

Wait, which one is the real incest show of the season? Yosuga no Sora? I can never keep track of these things.

Or has OreImo finally gone for the inevitable?

OreImo's source material isn't finished, which means that people can still claim the inevitable will or won't happen and be just as sure about their conclusion.

Yosuga no Sora, and OreImo (canonically) isn't an incest show.
Kyousuke goes for Kuroneko

Oh hey i just discovered the advantage of watching these arc-based adaptations: I don't have to watch the episodes about girls I don't care about!

Unfortunately OreImo hasn't given up the goods. :(

And probably won't...
...this season.

I hope one day some studio has the balls to animate a bromance arc.

When I heard Yosuga no Sora was doing hentai I watched it in a hurry. Woe is me, for the frames are static and the plot is garbage.

Hitokage said:
Not really. The TV series has episodes 25 and 26. EoE is episodes 25' and 26'. It's supplementary by definition.

I'd argue 25 and 26 are the supplements here. They exist only because GAINAX ran out of money.

Speaking of static frames it's kind of silly the budget OreImo has for animation considering the subject matter.

Yet they provide the better ending!

That sequence was painful. You would've made End of Eva even worse than it already is! :lol
Would have been a beautiful troll though and more thematically consistent than the literal mess they gave us!

I feel like I want to blame Ryoko Ikeda for this phenomenon, but I can't prove it. I just feel it in the long-haired, guy-like females with tons of "admirers" at the all girls school in Brother, Dear Brother and i assume Rose of Versailles is the same but like... in 18th century France.
Which is strange because it's the short haired girls who typically play the male nowadays. I guess Sasameki Koto or whatever it was called subverted that somewhat.

That is a badass avatar, good sir.

And so much of it is wasted on animating Kirino being a bitch... oh well.

How many episodes did it take for Makoto to nail Sekai?

Too much. Haruka does it in 3.

And then he gets raped again in the SD Gaiden thing.

Evangelion's Ending (movie and TV show)

Gendo's plan succeeds and he and the rest of the world are chilling The Great Link. However, all is not well in Orange Juice town, there's one loose end. Shinji is still around, and no one likes Shinji. Everyone teams up to trick Shinji into rejecting instrumentality to get him out of there. They succeed and decide as one final cruel joke to send Asuka back too.

Asuka realizing she's been had and that she has to spend the rest of her life with Shinji, says what anyone would say faced with living with Shinji. "I Feel Sick".

Shinji, realizing he's been had and has to spend the rest of his life with Asuka does what anyone would do faced with living with Asuka. Choke her to death.

The End

She was only a kid back then, give her a break.

Also :lol :lol :lol @ DrForester

Heartcatch Precure! 11: For a pair who was struggling about keeping their Fashion Club open, Tsubomi and Erika sure have enough time to do shit like Kung Fu training instead of any Fashioning.

Child abuse is okay as long as no adults are involved now?

Regulus Tera said:
Doesn't Shinji like, accept Instrumentality in 26? Why would you want everyone to live together as tang?

I don't think we should get into spoilers since someone is planning to watch it, but in short - no, I think the ending makes it clear that he rejects it.

Dresden said:
Mother of god, it's all clear now. Maybe we can stop talking about Eva!

Congratulations!

For some reason I always thought the series ending and the movie ending were opposites. I stand corrected.

Actually I think I've only watched 25 and 26 once despite having rewatched everything else at least a dozen of times.

EDIT: Shypre and Coffret would be great comic relief if they didn't spout that desu shit all the time.
EDIT2: Speaking of comic relief, Pen Pen is like the only comic relief that fails at being comic relief.

I can understand why the TV ending isn't as liked - it does reflect the lack of a budget and as such is stupidly abstract and can seem nonsensical.

I started watching EVA because I was promised awesome mecha action, so the ending does come as slap to the face during the first view.

In retrospect the monster of the week format of the first half could only go on for so long without a real purpose for the battles. The change of focus is welcome.

Oh man if you thought I was wordy before

I swear I'm just writing these as I go along, I don't really have any set length in mind.

A Certain Magical Index 5

It's only been a day and I've already forgotten what the hell is going on in this show. That's not a good sign.

Oh right, perfect memorization, Index will die if she doesn't forget, Touma gets the shit beaten out of him, now I'm up to speed!

The whole thing kinda doesn't make sense to me actually. Even if we operate under the assumption that most of Index's brain is filled with those books, under what reasonable circumstances can any significant portion of a person's memory really be filled within one year, even with something as silly as "perfect memorization". I mean, the brain is pretty damn efficient at storing information and it seems unlikely to me that being unable to forget visual or aural information, no matter how vast, over the course of one year would be significantly more taxing on the brain than just any normal dude going about his business. I mean, it's obvious those magicians are leaving something out, I just wonder what it's going to be.

You know, for whatever reason I haven't bothered to start skipping the OP yet. Hmm, on one hand, it isn't pretty nice to watch, much like the Shana one. On the other hand, maybe it's because it's still the only real interesting part of this show so far. Just a random thought while I wait the requisite 1:30.

The episode begins with a shot of Loli-sensei leaving her house. This shot lasts exactly 35 seconds for no good reason. Yes I'm going to keep harping on this show's pacing, dealwithit.gif -- Index is sleeping in bed while Touma watches her. The memory crap doesn't happen until midnight, so the cliffhanger from last episode was, of course, all for nought, as they leave her be for the rest of the night.

Sword chick calls up Touma (a rotary phone? Really?) "Bring Index to me" "BLARGH ARGH" "stfu" Touma insightfully points out that if grimoires were so powerful Index should be able to find a way to deal with the memory issue. It of course is brushed aside with "the church won't allow it" and "there's no hope for her now anyway" but eh, I have to give this show credit for at least trying to justify its own universe instead of either ignoring obvious contradictions or explaining them away in vague unsatisfying manners. Now if only the show didn't completely sabotage itself by doing this we could be going somewhere with all this. -- Touma then shows another surprising amount of insight by positing that science could have a solution that magic doesn't, except that Sword chick correctly counters by saying it's too much of a risk. After this Touma regresses to GAML mode and tells sword chick to piss off. -- And now we have... more babbling, followed by Touma calling Loli-sensei (who's in the bath, of course) and everyone else he knows. Midnight comes and goes, and Touma hears footsteps. Fun times ahead!

After the commercial break, the magicians show up, Touma tries to convince them otherwise out of desperation, and in what's actually a pretty compelling scene, fire mage calls his bluff and gives him the chance to disspell the magic he's using with his hand right then and there in front of everybody, pointing out that he would be extending Index's suffering by doing so no matter what happens from there. -- Under sword chick's urging, they give him a chance for one last goodbye. After a scene of absolutely no surprises (though also probably the only scene up to this point with actual GOOD music supporting it thank god...) Touma finally breaks down and... oh hey what's this, what a twist.

I swear I didn't watch this scene before writing those ramblings above, honest.

So apparently the memory killing bullshit is just that, and that the Church is using the lie to control Index and her friends. Touma decides to take matters into his own hands (haha hands, get it... shut up). He finds a spell hidden in Index's mouth and touches it. One shocking recoil later Index switches to babble mode and starts floating in the air. After some mindless droning Index makes "St George's Sanctuary" in order to destroy the unexpected "intruder" and... the episode ends.

I mean, yay, I guess stuff actually happened this time but... okay, so in this episode 1) Touma despairs about Index losing her memories. 2) Magicians show up, verbally abuse Touma, start their spell. 3) Touma is left alone and says goodbye to Index. 4) Touma realizes the whole thing is a sham and tries to nullify the spell causing this whole ordeal. 5) Safety mechanism kicks in. Did we really need an entire 22 minute episode for that? We like to joke about Dragon Ball Z's glacial pacing, but that had just as much to do with the fact that there was actually a lot of material to cover as it was the pace that material was presented. We're five episodes into this show and I don't really feel like a lot has happened. Touma meets Index, Fire mage attacks Index, Touma fights back, Loli-sensei heals Index, Sword chick explains the memory bullshit and they attempt to carry it out. I dunno, maybe this material does suit itself better to novel form, where you expect to spend some time being given information about each major event as the situation allows it, but in a uniformly-linear timed format like a television show you need to be able to scale each event in terms of how much time actually passes as opposed to how much time is needed to explain everything. That's the whole idea behind an adaptation! Toradora's anime cut out quite a lot from its source material, especially early on, and while that may have caused the adaptation to suffer in certain ways, it still managed to work because JC Staff actually understood what parts of the novel were actually integral to furthering the plot and focused on those while simplifying the interesting but still superfluous fluff to make sure it held our attention. I haven't read the Index novels, but it's pretty obvious from watching it that there was quite a lot they could have done to keep things from stretching out too much. Do you see what happens when I decide to really speak my mind? And believe me, I'm just getting started, I'm still holding back here. Trying to pick out which one of my many random thoughts to actually put on this computer screen is quite difficult. Damn my chronic inability to be succinct!

Okay I'm done for now. I promise. Despite all my ramblings above, this episode was actually interesting, so there may yet be hope for this yet.
Haha sure.....

The days before the internet became widespread, when kids at school said Dragon Ball AF was coming and Pokégods were real.

You can fight Shen Long!!

Man, pre-internet days... I can't even fathom it now.

I remember the good old days where my best memories were the day when my family got its first computer, a 133mhz 486 with a 500MB hard drive, the day when we got a video card and a CD-ROM drive, and the day we hooked our phone line to our $10/month Prodigy connection.

Then I discovered programming, emulators, and Pokemon in 1998 and it was downhill from there.

Double standards ftw!

No but he enjoyed it although she's still guilty about it and that's as much plot as she gets.

I remember having to watch the entirety of EVA in a weird-arse Swedish format with a resolution worse than original Youtube and enjoying the hell out of it. OF COURSE the copy I got of EoE was corrupted and I had to buy the freaking VHS for 200 pesos (that's huge when you live in a third world country where the minimum wage is five bucks a day).

Fucking bummer.

My first exposure to anime was a random episode of DBZ on Saturday morning, the one where Goku and Frieza spend the first 10 minutes of the episode pushing energy beams at each other until Goku gets nailed and Gohan shows up. That episode was arguably DBZ in a nutshell.

My second exposure to anime was an episode of Hello Kitty airing at six a clock in the morning.

Man, the pre-internet days sucked now that I think about it...

I used to rent copied VHS tapes from Chinatown. Cantonese dubs FTW. I almost feel bad that piracy has become so widespread that people can't profit from piracy anymore.

Of course, back then, I didn't know how they were getting these shows. :lol

My first exposure to anime was catching DBZ on a Saturday night, with Goku running into the snake lady on Snake Way.

My first exposure to anime was a random Sailor Moon episode I saw when we were on vacation in Florida when I was around 8 or something. My cable provider didn't get Cartoon Network until muuuuuuuch later, so that was the only place I could watch it. The art style blew my mind. It was like some kind of new magical cartoon where people had realistic (compared to American cartoons) proportions and more than comedy happened.

Of course I didn't become obsessed with the medium until Pokemon a few years later.

My first exposure to anime was Samurai Pizza Cats, so there!

Also, Saint Seiya Caballeros del Zodiaco > Dragon Ball Z

Heartcatch Precure! 11: "He doesn't talk to me anymore, he must love somebody else cause I'm not pretty or cool!"

Sounds like a GAFfer.

Definitely Dragon Ball z then. I think it was already up to the Frieza saga when Ash got his Pikachu and we all fell in love with the world of Pokemon for the first time.
