Fallout 4 game systems information thread

I thought I would start a game information thread for Fallout 4, to capture information we find. I will keep story spoilers to a minimum to respect Bethesda and ask you do, too.

I will keep updating the OP with more information people find. Note I'll check the people posting it have played the game before updating here.

How big is the game world?
Around the same size as Skyrim. Source: Bethesda. (Worth noting Skyrim was 3-4 times bigger than Fallout 3).

How many lines of dialogue are in the game?
"Many years of #Fallout4 voice recording complete! Just over 111k lines. More than Fallout 3 and Skyrim combined." Source @BethesdaGameStudios

What are the differences between the console releases?
Both versions run at 1080p and should be identical. They are aiming for a solid 30fps. Sources: https://twitter.com/bethesda_fr/status/613012219383693312 https://twitter.com/DCDeacon/status/654400850316668930

Can you change the colour of the HUD?
Yes. Source: screenshots.

Some PS4 images.

Any impressions of what the shooting feels like?

Curious if Bethesda can pull a competent shooter off
but totally not expecting it to happen.

Pete Hines said in this interview that they have been given support by Id and MachineGames. So be optimistic.

:(

lockpicking in f3 ok (prefer oblivions system tbh)
but I hated the hacking
youd think they would at least attempt something better
I really like the hacking once you get the hang of it but I would really like improved lock picking just because it's been in other games.

I liked the Fallout 3 lock picking system. I've reached out to somebody with the retail game to check it is still the same now.

The higher the difficulty is you set, the more 'Legendary' enemies you will have in the game, which are harder than normal enemies, but also drop better loot.

Diablo like.

Meh. Gonna download the "force pick always succeeds, only the correct word visible in hacking" mod as soon as someone makes it, then. Hate the mini games.

Is that so? Sounds like I'll be playing the game on hard or very hard, then

Unless the enemies become stupid bullet sponges on higher difficulties. Can't recall how difficulty has been handled in earlier Bethesda games.

Is having a high intelligence stat at the start beneficial like it was in Fallout 3 etc.?
In that it allowed to gather more skill points than if I'd chosen other perks?

That info comes from the friend of somebody posting about the game 2nd hand in Spanish, translated back to English, passed around GAF. We don't know if they even have the game yet.

This info was confirmed buy a guy on twitch. RocketBeansTV. They probably have the game already.

He read it on Reddit I think, which got it from GAF which got it from the translation of the Spanish friend of the guy who apparently had it.

(In other words, I'm trying to make sure we can source information in the OP).

You know that how ? They have the game. 100 %. They had two Pip-Boy Editions too. They're pretty big.

Any news about mod integration through Steam, they would have to do it right after the success of Skyrim mods through Steam? Considering it's the same engine as Skyrim we should see mods start appearing not too far after release right?

I'm liking the higher difficulties and having legendary enemies, with appropriate rewards. I am definitely playing on Survival level straight away, will make levelling that much more rewarding especially when beating the tougher creatures.

Other games don't do this enough and reward higher difficulties properly.

No official modding support or Steamworks support at launch. Later in 2016 there will be the modding kit for PC, then Xbox, then PS4. (As per Bethesda).

lighting in this game actually looks very nice with the artstyle, cant wait for playthrough on pc and then another one next year with some mods.

Is there a choice between Lady Killer or Man Hunter when you first pick it regardless of your characters gender?

The perk is different depending on gender. The damage bonus is only against the opposite sex but I remember reading somewhere that the unique dialogue happens to both male and female npc's regardless.

A lot of the perks are listed and have descriptions on the Fallout wiki but there are still a few that are completely unknown.

The map is only the size of Skyrim?

When I first played Skyrim it felt HUGE but not sure how it's gonna feel after playing The Witcher 3. How does Fallout 3's map compare to Skyrim? I felt that NV's map was a little small but FO3 felt much bigger.

Does the HUD fade out when not in combat? Is there a way to turn off the compass?

If not, I hope those are the mods that come to console the quickest. Need me that total immersion experience.

Yes and no. Skill points are gone but higher INT means you get more experience points (relative to lower INT) for any particular action. This means that all things being equal you will progress and level faster with higher INT.

Exactly far much difference there is between INT 1, 2, 3... 10 is as yet unknown.

edit: beaten.

Those screens are gorgeous. When can we expect twitch streams to pop up? Im guessing by the end of the week?

Glad it's 1080p. Also Skyrim's world was plenty big enough since you could only walk around or use one of the terrible horses so that's fine with me.

I hope I don't need any INT perk, since I want it to be at 1, so I get not much EXP. The biggest problem I have with Fallout games is the level cap, and in this case having so many perks that you are jack of all trades and a demi-god.

Only two things I need to know about is: What is the Gun Nut perk and if a low INT makes you "dumb" like in the past games? Seeing it's voiced now I kinda doubt that. I want to be ultra crafty tho. I want to pimp my Sniper Rifle and Shot Gun combination SO hard.

Given there are 111,000 lines of dialogue there may well be a fair amount of bespoke dialogue for low, medium and high intelligence builds. It's doubtful both actors (male and female) have recorded all of their lines in different ways but I would expect unique dialogue in some quests.

This game is playable even before release date if you have the disc? Or is Shinobi playing a digital copy somehow?

Console physical versions are always playable from the disc, no activation requirements. Digital copies are locked behind time lock.

PC copy, physical or digital, are unplayable before release date, if devs and/or Valve don't flag your account for early access.
