Fallout 4 game systems information thread

An amendment to my post. Does anyone know if any of the improvements Obsidian brought with New Vegas that made it the best RPG of last gen are in Fallout 4?

Factions.
Faction reputation.
Faction clothing.
Companion wheel.
Skill checks with actual numbers.
Companion perks.
Companion quests.
Traits.
Armor categories/damage threshold.
Meaningful choices.

Here's how hacking has worked since FO3:

When you click on a potential password, if it is incorrect, it'll tell you the number of letters that are "correct" (this is referred to as "Likeness" in Fallout 4). That number is not just the letters that are within the word that are correct, but their position within the word as well.

Words are not the only selectable entries on the screen, though. Any unit of characters that is between any type of brackets ( [ ], { }, or ( ) types) are also valid inputs (including brackets that are closed that have no characters between them), which will either reset your number of allowed attempts back to maximum, or remove an incorrect password from the board.

If you click on closed brackets, parenthesis, or something along those lines in the interface, it will either remove a dud, or allow you to make more guesses which makes hacking a lot easier. A lot of people, including me, had no idea you could do that for a long ass time.

When you mouse over most characters they are highlighted as a single character. However some are highlighted as a grouping. These groupings are duds. When you click on the duds it will remove one of the incorrect passwords from the list. Keep doing this until there is only one word remaining in the list and you have then found your password.

Before this, hacking terminals used to be a guessing game. You had 4 chances to find the correct word. Most people would try 3 times and if they didn't have it yet they would exit the terminal and re-open the terminal to try another 3 times. If you don't exit the terminal and are wrong on the 4th try then you can never hack that terminal again.

Basically the video shows how to actually do the hacking puzzle. Most of us were doing it wrong the entire time. It was never meant to be a guessing game.

Thanks guys, i'll have to keep that in mind when i play 4.

I can't believe they're still using this menu design. The actual menu only fills up about a quarter of the screen. It's pretty sad that a 2015 game allows for fewer lines of text to be displayed at once than a NES game running at 240p.

I don't see how this is a problem. It keeps the clutter down and adds to the immersion.

Because constantly scrolling to see info that could be displayed on one page, if the developer didn't use huge text in a tiny box, is pain in the ass?

have they locked the "Fallout 4 has gone gold" thread? cant find it and im not touching that "20mins gameplay" thread with a 50-foot pole
