Fallout 4 - Male or Female protagonist (which will you choose?)

Male Wood Elf as always.

Wait....

This aint Elder Scrolls.... I'll go with a white male then. Tried to play as female once in Mass Effect and ended up railing on Jacob. Felt wrong. It's not for me.

Male, obviously.

"Nothing against females. I love them and respect them. I have the best girlfriend in the world and I treat her like a princess. But playing as one in a video game I cannot.

I just cannot enjoy it and immerse my self into the world. As with most high testosterone males we want to come home from a long day at work and put on a video game and feel empowered for a short while. I just cant do that when playing as chick with big tits and vagina."

200 GAF bucks to whoever gets the reference.

Female, I like Courtenay Taylor. Also I play third person and female characters look cooler.

What's the romance situation in this game? I thought I read that they were putting some in this time?

TPS + Character Creation = Hot guy - so I can stare at him throughout the whole game.
TPS + No Character Creation = The guy, if hot. If not, the girl.
FPS = Don't really care but usually female if I can sleep around with the guys.

Does it really surprise you that men like to play as men?
Not that I have a problem with it, but the recent statistics of women making up a good chunk the 'gaming demographic' (granted a lot of the ones that are counted include those who are exclusively on mobile or web gaming) would've lead me to believe more than just 18% of the player base would pick female.

I'm still undecided, but I'll definitely modify both characters' facial traits, since apparently that's possible.

Glad they did that.

Female as always when given the choice. When it comes to customization and equipment/outfits they just always, always appeal to me more. Plus Jack is the fem VA and I loved Jack, so win-win.

It was still a dumb post. Clearly to some people it does matter hence Bethesda giving them a choice. Some people when they play RPG make gender actually matter beyondof the scope of what the developers do storywise.

It could be just me, but the whole "does it matter" just reinforces the "straight white male" character in videogames because it's seen as the "default".
/mini-rant

You missed the point. They could have been asking if the choice was more than superficial. Instead most just jumped on the posters back assuming they were reinforcing this White Male Patriarchy or whatever. . .

I always pick male because I am a guy. I assume the same reason for females to pick a girl. I guess if you like to "role play" as your character or you're not gender specific then take your pick. But, I think playing as a girl character if you're a guy because you want to stare at a video game character's ass then that's a very stupid reason.

Nothing was more satisfying than shooting Caesar legion as a sniping female with extreme prejudice.
If Bethsoft made the effort to make gender as relevant, then I'll play female just for the extra wrinkle.

I will probably play female since I go male in the Elder Scrolls series. Also because I have yet to make a male character in the fallout series I am satisfied with appearance wise, they always end up looking super ugly to me.

Male, in games such as Fallout I always assume the character is a recreation of the player (I'm male) so I choose that as the sex. I also choose dialog options that I feel are more in line with something I would say. I'm bad at roleplaying I guess haha.

Male of course. I find it much easier to get immersed/role play that way when it comes to these blank slate characters that you have to imprint yourself onto.

For females I much prefer ones that are predefined characters (loving Evie in Syndicate right now!)

For a game like Fallout I always make my first playthrough as a male for maximum immersion because I'm a male. Female for the second playthrough.

With more serious themed games I choose my sex which is male.

For more fantasy base games like Sunset Overdrive I go with female.

Now that the Fallout 4 hype is hitting it's peak and we're just weeks away from getting the game; has anyone put any thought into which gender their wanderer will be?

The voice actors for the two are as follows:

Male: Brian T. Delaney (IMDB)
Female: Courtenay Taylor (IMDB)

They've both done mostly bit part roles in games here and there. Courtenay Taylor some may recognise as Jack's voice from Mass Effect.

I still haven't decided but usually go for a female character when there is a choice. Thoughts?
Male

Not hyperbole at all. Perhaps they were literally asking "Does gender matter in this game. . ."

I'll be playing as Anabelle Jones, PhD. Post-Doc at The Institute, and synthoid sympathizer.

The OP never said it mattered. Saying "does it matter?" implies the OP needed a point other than curiosity.

I use to make females. I wanted to be a strong female character, but I realize I'm not being myself.

I like being a female, but I kinda want to live the adventure as myself. It's still rather hard deciding. A female is interesting because I'm attracted to females and it looks better.

I usually play a female in their past games, but, I've thought about it and I think I'm going male for at least the 1st playthrough. I'll do female on other plays.
